When I watched the movie Wonder I felt like everyone could connect to how the main character Auggie was feeling because we all have insecurities. Auggie faced so many challenges in the movie like bullying, betrayal, arguments and disagreements, but also Auggie wasn't paying close attention to the people around him like his sister. His sister (Via) was always the one feeling left out. No one in his family was paying attention to her and after awhile she just got used to it like it was a habit. They would always pay attention to the problems in her brother's life rather than her own sometimes. At the start of the movie when it was Auggie's first day at school lots of kids were bullying him. One day, Auggie was sitting at the cafeteria alone, so Jack …show more content…
(his best friend) joined him. After that, they started hanging out a lot until one day, Auggie found out Jack's mom forced Jack to hang out with Auggie.
When Auggie found out he started ignoring Jack, but at that point Jack already felt a friendship between them and with Jack it wasn't about his mom anymore. One day Julian (the main bully) was bullying Auggie in the hallway and Jack stood up for Auggie and after that they became very close friends. I think the reason why Julian was bullies Auggie was because there were some conflicts going on at home. At the end of the movie when Julian got caught for bullying Auggie by the principal his parents came to talk to the principal. Julian's mom seemed very convinced that Julian did nothing wrong because Auggie is not a very important person, but when she said that I was so frustrated. What parent would say such a thing and that's why I think Julian thought it was okay to bully Auggie because his mom would make any excuse to make sure her son would never get into trouble. Julian probably adapted that skill through on his life. Auggie's mom (Isabel) was with Auggie every step of the way she was supporting Auggie when it was so hard. She gave up her favorite skill writing just so she could take care of
Auggie. In the middle of the movie when Isabel finally realized that Auggie had friends and was doing pretty well in school, she was finally inspired to start writing again and most of her inspiration was because of Auggie. Auggie's dad (Nate) did not have a very big role in the movie, but definitely had a very big effect on Auggie. Like Isabel Nate was there to support Auggie at his first day of school even though he did not agree with Isabel that Auggie should go to school. Summer (Auggie's friend) was sitting with her friends in the cafeteria when one of her friends starting making fun of Auggie and Summer did not like that, she said stop but they wouldn't so she saw Auggie sitting alone and went to join him. I love Summer's personality because even when her friends did something bad she stood up and said what she believed was the right thing to do. The three concepts I believe were important in the movie were family/friends, support, and not being the bystander. In the movie Auggie knew he stood out from everyone else in the school because of what he looked like, but that's what made him who he is. Sure, he would get made fun of, but that's because of how he stood out. What people need to realize in the world is that it's okay to stand out and no one should be made fun of because everyone stands out in some way. I think that's what the movie was trying to tell people. Everyone stands out but you should be proud of how you stand out, and worry less about what people think of you and more about what you think about yourself.
It is wrong of Justin to bully Michael because it is not only mean but shows bad sportsmanship because it is all out of jealousy and trying to take Michael’s right to play his beloved game of baseball from him. All of these characters who impacts each other's baseball lives all have different moral codes. Ellie and Michael’s moral codes are similar, to not hurt anyone, physically or verbally, but to enjoy and just play baseball, but Michael brakes it when he lashes out on Ellie. Justin, on the other hand, has a moral code that is not fair towards others because he thinks of winning and being the best no matter what and not enjoying the game of baseball. He is intimidated and jealous of Michael and he bullies him out of jealousy and tries to get Michael off the team for his own benefit. Even though Michael is frustrated with all the troubles he is facing, it is not the right thing to do when he lashes out on Ellie and it is not right of Justin to act like a bully towards Michael because it is all out of jealousy. In the end, there are many hardships throughout Michael’s life of baseball and they all are unfair actions on Michael’s part, lashing out on Ellie, and Justin’s part, bullying
Their mother’s parenting style changed throughout the movie. In the beginning, the parenting style their mother had was authoritative. She had rules that she expected the kids to follow, however she always explained her reasoning and gave them space to express their feelings. She included the kids in her decision-making, especially when it came to the multiple times of moving. I believe that her parenting style evolved over time to a more permissive style.
The children also argue with their mother often. The children think that their mother, with no doubt, will be perfect. They idealize their mothers as angel who will save them from all their problems, which the mothers actually never do. The children get angry at their false hopes and realize that their mothers aren’t going to...
On page 357 of the collection book, Anne goes on to say that “Then suddenly all would be forgotten and she’d treat me like everyone else.’’ Anne and her mother typically get upset with each other and her parent has raced at her for 2 days after the two days her mother forgives her and acts as if nothing ever happened. This expresses to the quote” in spite of everything, I still believe that people are good at heart." by reason of this is screening that people can be good at heart after 2 days. This shows that Anne, a mother is one of those people who can't hold a grudge for too long.
When August was talking about her mother with Lily, she said “’ If you look in here, you’re gonna see your mother’s face looking back at you,” (Monk Kidd 273). This shows the readers that even though Lily was very nervous to talk to August about her mother, she faced her fear and learnt a lot of information about her. She was able to find out that her mother didn’t leave her because she didn’t love her but because she wanted to protect her only child. She also found out some very important information about her dad T.Ray that helped her solve her conflict with T.Ray. This is another example of problems can be solved when characters talk things
Parent/Child relationships are very hard to establish among individuals. This particular relationship is very important for the child from birth because it helps the child to be able to understand moral and values of life that should be taught by the parent(s). In the short story “Teenage Wasteland”, Daisy (mother) fails to provide the proper love and care that should be given to her children. Daisy is an unfit parent that allows herself to manipulated by lacking self confidence, communication, and patience.
In the beginning of the story, Julian and his mother started off arguing. Julian?s mother seemed to pick a fight by arguing about the purchase of her hat. She commented to Julian that she should not have bought the hat, and he tells her she should have bought it. She pushes his buttons and insists on arguing with him. She proceeded to argue and say; ?Maybe I shouldn?t have paid that for it. No, I shouldn?t have. I?ll take it off and return it tomorrow. I shouldn?t have bought it? (O?Connor 179). Julian then proceeds to argue back and insist that she should have bought it. He tells her, ?Yes, you should have bought it. Put it on, and let?s go? (O?Connoe179). His mother continues to look at herself in the hat as if she were debating as to whether or not she should keep it, and Julian tells her, ?It?s all right, It?s all right. Let?s go? (O?Connor 180). No matter what he said to her, she
Like on page 177 where it says, “So here are the official sides.” or when Julian callously kept trying to make Auggie feel inferior to him. August knew life at school wouldn’t be the easiest thing in the world, but August didn’t think they would be so judgemental of him. People were so mean to August and treated him very poorly. Overall all these things August went through only made him stronger. When August started school, his primary focus wasn’t simply getting good grades, it was fitting into a completely new atmosphere. Although August had some difficult times during his first year in school he learned so much from that experience and he made memories he will never
Even tough, Julian and his moms’ views were completely different they still were a like in some way. For example, both Julian and his mom cared much about their appearance. His mom would wear rich, exaggerating clothes like the “hat” she had on, to hide the fact that she doesn’t have her family wealth no more. Julian presents himself as an educated guy, he uses this appearance to differentiate himself from those around him. Even though Julian doesn’t like how his mom views the world, he low-key acts like his mother in a way he also resents the fact that his family has no more
The movie begins with the family and parenting styles concept of child development by introducing the audience to the main character James and his parents. James lives in a two-parent household with his authoritative parents who are providing him with warmth, love, and encouragement (Levine & Munsch, pp. 521-522). This concept of parenting styles is shown as the movie begins and James is seen spending time with his parents. Then suddenly, James’ world changes and he is abandoned as a result of his parents being killed. This causes James to become orphaned and forced to live with his authoritarian aunts, Spiker and Sponge. Aunt Spiker and Aunt Sponge are very controlling towards James and expect him to obey their rules without allowing him to express his feelings. This authoritarian behavior is seen throughout the movie. Aunt Spiker and Aunt Sponge are also uninvolved, neglectful, and abusive, using verbal and physical punishment on James when they feel it’s necessary, which is also seen throughout the movie (Levine & Munsch, p. 522). These behaviors cause James to develop lower self-esteem, show less intellectual curiosity, and feel lonely and afraid, which are typical outcomes of an authoritarian parenting approach (Levine & Munsch, pp. 521-523). Although James’ aunts’ authoritative parenting style has an effect on his emotional and social behaviors, it is his parents authoritative parenting that plays a...
Auggie is the main character in Wonder. Auggie his whole life had struggled with his disability of having many facial deformities. He is an interesting character and Wonder has allowed the reader to see how things are from his perspective of things and also throws in the perspectives of the other characters. Auggie as a person changed throughout the story greatly. Both mentally and physically.
Alex’s dad, in the novel, ran away from his marriage with Alex’s 3rd Grade teacher. He was perhaps disappointed with Alex’s mom. Alex’s mom, as a result, was mad at his dad. Her frustration was justifiable but after completing the novel it became clear that the couple’s frustrations and disappointments were immediate and did not last for ever.
In the most literal sense a mother is supposed to take care of her children and love them unconditionally, but Jimmy’s mother did the exact opposite. Jimmy’s mother and father would always have arguements, and this led to Jimmy’s mother leaving his father. Moreover, one day Jimmy’s mother dropped him and his brother off at Jimmy’s grandparents’ house. And as Jimmy’s mother is driving away Jimmy states, “I tried to pull free of Grandma’s hand, and I heard her say, ‘“Manana sea major con el favor de Dios.”’ Tomorrow will be a better day with God’s help. But as she led us into the house, I knew tomorrow would never be better. Something in my life had changed forever” (17). In that quotation, Jimmy is brought to realization that his mother would be leaving him forever, and Jimmy knows that this event would inevitably change the outcome of his life. Furthermore, the loss of Jimmy’s mother caused agony to dwell in his heart forever. In addition, the loss of his mother played an immense role on the rest of Jimmy’s life, and to this day, Jimmy never forgave his mother. This agony caused Jimmy to never trust anyone again. Also, throughout the next couple of years in Jimmy’s life, Jimmy would become familiar with the bars that he would soon call home. Jimmy Baca then states, “My parents never did come, and at thirteen years old I
Auggie’s character traits help him in his new journey as he begins public school. His sense of humor helps him overlook his condition with deformities. Auggie’s different forms of bravery help him carry on in life without others looking down on him. Finally, Auggie is able to reach out and create friendships with others through his kindness. Auggie’s character traits not only help him, but also speak to others by saying that it doesn’t matter how you look on the outside, but how you act towards people from the
It’s 10:30am and Janice, Alex’s mother, receives a phone call. “Hi Janice, this is Mrs. Smith calling with regards to Alex. Yes, he isn’t having a good day. He has been very disruptive this morning. We tried calling Alex’s older sister to calm him down, and to talk to him, but he wouldn’t calm down.
