Education can be viewed as the key to all locks in life and the structure of that key is dependent upon the education of each individual. Obstacles hinder everyone on a daily basis, weather it's going outside to check the mail or attempting to earn a degree at a university. A thought process is required for both goals, and education decides on the rate of success. The goal may not be reached but education will still be present especially at times of failure. This repeating cycle of education and failure is the foundation of every successful individual. A successful individual can be defined by the unforeseen circumstances one encounters and how the individual reacts to said circumstances. The educated student would be able to act accordingly …show more content…
A simple highschool student wanting to improve the household conditions of their family has the potential to become a high functioning member of society. This can occur by attending a university in which they teach you the knowledge applicable to your field of study. This is not to say it is an easy task but the difficulty of each assignment will prepare that individual with the daily adversities everyone must overcome. This can be defined as withstanding responsibilities and developing discipline. Henry Thoreau, a 19th century philosopher, would believe in developing that discipline and knowledge through literature.“Books are the treasured wealth of the world and the fit inheritance of generations and nations” (Thoreau 1854). This wealth of knowledge allows a farmer wanting to sustain more crops to a inspiring medical student to both accomplish their tasks. They are both capable of learning but one is financially better off than the other, allowing only one to attend a classroom. Fortunately, books grant the power of knowledge to the poor individual as well, enabling them to benefit their quality of life by seeking education in …show more content…
To say only the intelligent can be educated would be false due to the individuals who have values and utilize ethics in order to finish a task. This task would be to become educated, a very challenging task when starting from the bottom of the class hierarchy. The sole advantage of starting from the bottom of the hierarchy would be the hard working qualities obtained from living in difficult circumstances. These values are developed and employed to finish a task no matter the difficulty. Alfred Lubrano, the son of a bricklayer, is aware of the blue collar values which empowered him to graduate from Columbia University.”You never expect things to be easy, and you don’t whine when they’re not” (Lubrano 2003). These values growing up prepares people like James Neal, a medical malpractice attorney, to complete rigorous forms of education no matter the position they are placed in. Waking up at 4 A.M. on a farm, James still made his way to school due to his unfaltering willpower. Education was presented the same way as it is with any other individual, some with superior intellect. This factor is irrelevant when realizing education can be applied to anyone who is willing to
Being educated can help people earn their living and be more responsible. Nowadays, education level is one of the most important requirements and comparative advantage for searching a job. The people who finish higher education, they would have more opportunity. Just like the author Wes’s father, “he finally had the chance to host his own public affairs show. And he’d hired a new writing assistant. Her name was Joy.”(12) After graduate from Bard College, his father gained more opportunities to realize his dream, being on television. Studying in college, we can learn the professional skill and know more about the
Like climbing a mountain, the desire for advancement through education requires vigorous, determined, and disciplined students. Students that can overcome mixed feelings of guilt, anxiety, and desire that can cripple the students’ success in college. Students must propel themselves higher up the mountain from a position that is lower in elevation than their more entitled counterparts. A substantial amount of determination and climbing ultimately leads to either success or defeat in the world of education. Students must challenge their own identities and relieve themselves of their past to succeed. The pertinacious character of working-class students provides a desire to escape to a place of acceptance and understanding. Through education students are challenged to discover themselves and what they are truly capable of, or fall off the mountain
Society pushes today's youth towards higher education. The goal of grade school is to prepare the students for middle school. The goal of middle school is to prepare the students for high school. And finally the goal of high school is to prepare the students for college. The entire structure of education is to prepare youth for the next level of education. The problem with this system is that not all students are college material, as seen in the essay The Case Against College by Caroline Bird.
Baker always wondered what the real point of higher education is. He said, “The point is to equip the child into college. The smart kids have no trouble with college while the dumb one struggle. While the point of college goes back to when they start their education. The main point of education is to please people giving the test. This is so you can be able to pass so you can make it to the next level of higher education. This all leads to a “life of rich and a full bank account” (Baker 225). During these years at college the professors are to prepare the student who is no longer a child now for even higher education such as graduate school. This makes the student have fully fulfilled with what they have done with their life and the great accomplishment they have achieved. Higher education is to be cherished. This allows the student to prepare there self “to play his role in the great simmering melodrama of American life (Baker

Study/education improves the development of a society hence the need for educated individuals to occupy significant position in order to improve such society.
Education is an everyday topic of a conversation for both higher and lower socioeconomic people but mostly for the “poor”, it is believed to be the key to success or just a waste of time. But the real question is if education is meant for everyone. Well according to Gerald Graff, the issue is that many claim that non book smart students are not so intelligent. Which might be why the education system does not do anything to improve those street smart students academically. They tend to only help those who they think have the intelligence to understand academic work which are the book smart students. Overall, the education system would say that education is for every student but that is what they are expected to say. In reality, the education
Rich people assume that College is important, but it is not a one way ticket to success, and happiness. However, Middle class people believe that education is important to be successful in the future. Education for middle class student is an important tool that is applied in the modern world to succeed, as it reduces the challenges, which are faced in life. “With nearly half of the nation 's undergraduates enrolled in community colleges,…….are playing an increasingly important role in higher education.”(David Hosansky). The information gained through education allows individuals’ future life to be optimally utilized due to training of the human mind. This eventually opens doors of opportunities for individual to achieve better chance in career growth. Education has played a major role in the modern industrial world. “This is attributed to the fact prospective employees must be qualified adequately to perform various tasks effectively.”(David Hosansky) Industries entail resources that are sufficiently equipped with the modern technology to suit the needs and wants of the society. This makes education to become a norm for services in all industrial
University education trains students in academic subjects. But non-academic fields can lead us to success as well. There are countless entrepreneurs, actors/actresses, political leaders, authors, directors, critics, designers, and more who prove that success does not merely depend on having complete education. These non-academic fields require people’s enthusiasm, but not academic knowledge. For example, Abraham Lincoln completed only one year of formal education, yet became a world famous lawyer and the U.S. President. These examples shows tertiary education may not be a necessary factor for success. On the other hand, it is generally believed that university education is necessary for successful life. Education is the key to success because it opens doors for people of all backgrounds, and it expands the human mind with knowledge. Roland (1997) claim that the vast amount of knowledge gained through education prepares individuals to solve problems, teach others, function at a higher level and implement transformational ideas. The 21st century is ever changing, new inventions are coming up non-stop and without proper education, it’s
