There are many traits I have that I feel I could bring to the campus, and enrich the community. A lot of these traits I picked up with my journey of high school. For me high school was a time for me to prove myself with hard work, and keeping my grades up. However, I had many obstacles along the way. These obstacles may have made my journey into high school a lot more difficult, but I had the opportunity to grow and become a stronger person from the situations I had to face. The first obstacle I ran into was freshman year. I had started out with a good GPA and it looked like I was off to a good start. As things looked to be going my way, I started getting strep throat and tonsillitis constantly, making me miss a good amount of school. The doctor …show more content…
said I had chronic tonsillitis and I had to have my tonsils and adenoids removed. I was terrified going into surgery, but when I got out I realized it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. It made me realize that even if there's something in my way that scares me to death, if I face it and get it over with, the outcome might not be as bad as anticipated. Sadly, I missed about a total of 2-3 months because of surgery and having tonsillitis, and as a result my grades weren't as good as I hoped they would be my freshman year, and I hoped to turn it around the next year. The second obstacle in my high school career came early into my sophomore year. My close friend of about 5 years that I grew up with and went to school with committed suicide and it was really unexpected. Even though my mind was still set on turning things around, I just did not feel mentally "there" while being at school. When I only thought things could get worse, things started to look up because my group of friends started kind of looking out for each other more and we came together to help each other. This was very important to me, because it made it easier for me to empathize others and to help them in times of need. That is another trait I believe I could bring to enrich the campus. Sadly, a couple of weeks after my friend passed, my grandma also passed away. This caused me to miss even more school, and again my grades didn't satisfy me by the end of my sophomore year. This made me determined to have the best year I could my junior year, and I went into the year with an amazing and determined mind set. I was off to a great start, and my grades were really good. Then came yet another obstacle.
My girlfriend and I got into a car accident a little over half way into the school year. I was the driver and she was the only passenger. We got t-boned at a speeds of 55 miles per hour. I was wearing my seatbelt, and thankfully I was unharmed besides minor scratches and bruises. My girlfriend, Jocelyn wasn't wearing her seatbelt. She was knocked unconscious and was in a coma for 11 hours. She got traumatic brain injury as a result, and she was in the hospital for 3 weeks. Despite all of this, I was still just as determined as the day I started my junior year and I was not going to let anything hold me back this time. I managed to finish my junior year with a 3.5 GPA for the whole year which was my personal best for any year. I also just barely missed a 3.75 GPA for second semester, and ended up with a 3.57. I also took the ACT during junior year and scored a 22, which I was pretty satisfied with. Although I faced more obstacles my junior year, and had some really hard classes, I realized I needed to give it everything I had, and I did. The way my work ethic has changed, as well as my determination, and empathy for others, Has positively effected me as a person, and I feel like it will help enlighten the …show more content…
campus. There are however some other things outside of high school have also given me traits I believe would have a positive impact on campus.
For instance, I've been working at Pick N' Save for a few months as a produce clerk, and it's very hard work. There are a lot of responsibilities that go into being a produce clerk, and I feel like I handle them very well. Also being a produce clerk takes a lot of patience, and consistency. Knowing this I go to work with a mind set of getting whatever I need to get done to the best of my ability. Not only to satisfy my managers and coworkers, but to satisfy myself too. My managers have made comments on how they can tell I take pride in my work, and how well I follow instructions. Those traits are very important to me, and they would help enrich the campus because I believe one person can change many peoples' mind sets just by demonstration. Overall, I feel like high school is what has shaped me the most, and I wouldn't be the person I am today if it weren't for all the obstacles I had to face throughout high school. They taught me how to make the best out of everything and to always try to look at the bright side of things. They gave me traits and characteristics that are useful in everyday life, and I will carry them with me throughout my whole
life. Now I'm already off to a great start for my senior year, and I'm determined that it's going to be better than last year. I have a couple AP Classes, as well as a few other very difficult classes, but I'm ready to put the work in and be responsible. I look forward to graduating this June and I would love to start the next chapter of my life at UW Platteville, and bring my mind set of hard work, determination, and looking out for others. I believe throughout these past few years I have really matured, improved my schoolwork, also improved study habits, and my work ethic as well. I have also learned to deal with responsibilities as a priority, and I make sure all of my responsibilities are taken care of. I feel like these traits I have will help me fit right in on campus, and will help to ensure that education is my top priority. I look forward to hearing from you.
I come from a magnet school that is blessed to have a large number of extremely bright students that are very dedicated to their studies, a must because of the difficult curriculum involved. The community is a very strong one with many of the students going on to do great things, which has given me the inspiration to believe that I can do whatever I want in life, as I see others who are well on their way. Within this community, I have been able to form strong bonds with other students who have similar interests and ambitions. We are able to push each other to learn new things and, through a mix of competition and collaboration, are able to truly progress in many ways, pursuing excellence in both our scholastic and extracurricular endeavors. I believe this has made me a better person, inspiring me to take on a more demanding schedule and to help others when they struggle, because they help me as well. These friendships have also encouraged me to dream big, as others around me are doing, inspiring me to apply to highly selective schools and believing that I will do something to
High school is where I had gained an awareness about how what I 'm learning in school is going to benefit me in the real world. I learned an retain a variety of information because the things that I did learn I felt like you would need to know to survive in the real world. A perfect example of this is driver 's ed where I learned to drive something that I do everyday frequently. Another reason why I learned and retain so much I because when I got into high school is around the same time I got my first job. This definitely opened the door in showing me how what I 'm learning in school applies to everyday work activities such as knowing and counting money this is where math comes in. Being able to talk and communicate writing and verbally this is where English comes in. All things that I needed to do in everyday
My extracurricular and academic activities have helped mold me into a person with character and good qualities. These qualities--respect, humility, kindness, ambition, appreciation for diversity and collaboration, and courage--have not come without valuable failures and lessons. I can continue to develop these qualities and build upon these lessons as I go forward with my university goals and the desire I have to enter the healthcare profession as a nurse. I am able to look beyond the exciting, glamorous parts of both and see that there will be lots of hard work and difficulty. I am ready to face those challenges and do my best and give my all.
During my years in high school, I have learned many valuable lessons. I’m proud of the person I am becoming. Life has not been easy, but thankfully I’m a strong hard worker. I started high school with a high GPA, and never intended for it to drop throughout my years. Within the last three years, I’ve moved around, participated in sports, and got a job.
When I graduated from Delran High School in 2007, I had these same positive and desirable attributes, but I was lacking in direction and purpose. It was an extremely stressful time for me as a teenager and young adult as my family and home life was deteriorating. My parents were in the midst of an ugly divorce, my father was a terrible alcoholic who would soon go on to lose his bread-winning job, our house was constantly under possible foreclosure, and I had two younger siblings to help take care of. I quickly found a full-time job and applied to take classes full-time at Burlington County College. I became overwhelmed with the “real world” responsibilities of providing for my family and
High school trained me by actually taking responsibilities on my actions but also on my work. I concentrate way harder than I used to back in middle school since the grades are going to follow me through college. I have made myself want to finish my work because it will be way harder in the long run if I didn’t. I have learned how to better interact with other people. This sounds abnormal but it’s true. I used to hang out with only a small group of friends in middle school because I didn’t want to get to know other people.
As a child my parents worried about my educational development. They didn’t know if I was going to be able to keep up with the other children. I was in the third grade and didn’t know any English. I struggled academically my remaining elementary years to catch up to the other children, but it wasn’t long until I exceeded my peers in middle school.
In life, people will always have something to say about you in everything one does in life, either negative or positive, but it’s the moment when you let what is said upon you affect the way you live your life, that when its becomes a problem. I for myself have been victim of so many people saying things about me and letting get into my head, but I had the courage to overcome a lot of obstacles like that. I have struggled with a lot of obstacles in my life some got the better of me while I have been able to overcome most of them. I am writing this essay to give an example of an obstacle which I struggled with for a very long time and I nearly took the best of me, but with time I was able to overcome it.
Freshman year I was involved in three athletic sports and was also in the BETA club. On top of the sports I knew that school comes first and was invited to take honors class after I passed the placement tests. I spent many nights coming home from games and practices to stay up for hours working on projects, essays, and studying. I believe that hard work is what makes not only a person, but a community better. I continued to be involved in school activities through my senior year. I am a member of Student Government Association, Health Occupation Students of America, and play varsity volleyball with numerous newspaper appearances. Continuing to push one’s self allows the person to grow; which was my thought when I made the decision to take Advanced Placement classes that were provided by my school. I am currently enrolled and passing in all three of my AP classes.
Overcoming Obstacles Throughout a persons life, they are faced with different obstacles, and different challenges of all different types. My life in particular has been full of ups and downs, especially towards my soccer career. In the novel The Pact, three boys, George, Rameck, and Sam, are faced with many obstacles throughout their lives, where they must learn to overcome and achieve great success on their own will power. Essentially, I did the same thing. My soccer career has been one of my most difficult life challenges, creating the person I am today.
Starting college was not what I expected it to be. I have always been excited to go to college since I was little because I’ve always wanted to get a degree that could help people, animals, and the environment. I did not expect my Freshman year of college to turn out the way it did. I knew there would be challenges, but I did not expect that there would be so many large emotional valleys for me to overcome. I hoped the greatest challenges I would face were midterms and finals. I did not expect the great amount of loss I would experience which began the summer before my Freshman year. I had a bright start, I was looking forward to being a cheerleader at UMHB. I made lots of friends and I was able to go see my boyfriend whenever I wanted - what could go wrong?
My High School life has helped shape the way for my college experiences that I will face. My senior year in high school is not the same as many other high school students. I am taking many advanced classes to help me prepare for college. These classes help me better understand exactly how much harder I must work to succeed.
I always knew I wanted to do great, big things, but I felt that in due time I would know exactly what that would be. My career goals were not very clear during my start here at the college, but my educational goals definitely were. I knew I wanted to succeed by exceling in everything I did. I have always been a hard working student, and I saw college as a challenge that I wanted to excel at. Everyone always said to me that college would be very hard, and it would be difficult to obtain great grades. However I always believed in myself, and pushed myself to give the best of me possible. Through every semester I encouraged myself along the way, and I did everything I could to excel in every class, no matter what the subject was, or who the professor was. I had a clear goal to do great no matter the circumstance, and as I come closer to finishing my fourth semester, I’m proud to say I have achieved one of my goals. I have accumulated a perfect grade point average which I am very proud of, because I know it took a lot of hard work, and perseverance. This was one of the many things that I wanted to achieve her at the college, and I am glad I was able to push myself till I achieved
On the third day, after my warm-up, I started with a routine that looks very simple. From the surface, it looks very mediocre. In fact, it is a very core oriented and very painful to do. This is the reason I use a very light weight to perform this exercise. The reason this routine is brutal is because of a couple reasons. First, the position of the arm is very hard to maintain. Second, you have the forces from all directions preventing you from maintaining proper position and you must fight those forces during the movement. For these reasons alone, there is absolutely no reason to perform this routine with a heavy load.
My experience as a student throughout all years of school has been filled with so many positives that the negatives are not even worth talking about. I have learned numerous things that will help me in life and I feel confident that I am prepared for whatever impediment I may confront in future. On the off chance that I hadn’t joined Academy of Health Careers, I truly wouldn’t be the individual I am today and I would have no involvement in the medical field. These experiences as an student has characterized, molded my character, and helped me to develop into a youthful honorable man that I am
