As humans we are holding back our full potential with the chance of failure. Usually humans do not have all pieces, or have them in the right order. Let us face it not one person can know everything there is to know, but the ones that came before have left their knowledge about what to fear and what not to fear in life. They wanted to educate us so we don’t make the same mistakes as they have “I learned that courage is not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.” (Nelson Mandela). They are pushing us to strive over our everyday fears and live life to the fullest. “I have learned that fear limits you and your vision. It serves as blinders to what maybe just a few steps down the road from you. The journey is valuable, but believing in your talents, your abilities, and your self-worth can empower you to walk down an even brighter path. O-Brien talks about the journey that every human experiences and that all one may need is to believe in themselves in the face of fear and conquer it. Believing in one-self is the most encouragement anyone can have. To be able to push fear to the side and find courage, confidence, strength, and endurance is the most effort one can put into accomplishing his/her goals. Fear is something very foreign to countless people, not the idea, but the response to it, the way people react to fear. Everyone has their own fears; their own definitions and triggers to these unique varieties of fear. We imagine our worst fears and what would happen if they became a reality. This is where imagination plays a key role in the response to fear. Imagination can overcome one’s ability to reason out an abnormal situation, in which fear kicks in; frequently resulting in the situation becoming worse than the previous extent. College is hard, scary, and stressful especially with children involved. I think it is a good thing I went to college when I did otherwise, I would be stuck in the same minimum wage job that I have had for the past year. It is going to be hard and stressful but the truth is that were all scared. It is just a matter of pushing myself into getting where I want to be. My main fear with college is mainly flunking out, it is scary but, it is also achievable. I thought to myself, “Hey, if my best friend can go to college then why I can I not”. When I leverage the power of shutting down undesirable thoughts with optimistic statement, I create a gate of opportunity to my self to break out of that dreaded Series of Fear.
