An obstacle I once overcame was losing one of my closest friends. It all happened the very first day of eighth grade. Kimberly and I were best friends ever since I transfered there in seventh grade, and we hung out all summer. She was the person I could talk to about anything;she always knew how to make me smile, and I told her everything. She never hurt me before until out of nowhere she just stopped talking to me. I was very confused and sad for months, and every time I even tried to talk to her she would walk away and wouldn’t even look at me. It was very hard to deal with because for a long time I had no one to talk to, and I started to lose focus on school and other responsibilities. It was as if I was a ship going through a sea storm. After
Everyone has difficult obstacles in their lives. I have had a few myself and they each have changed me for the better. My most profound experience was being repeatedly molested as a child. I wasn't aware of exactly what was happening to me. I didn't know being touched was wrong. I just knew how disgusting it made me feel, but I didn't tell anyone at the time. I shared this publicly as an adult to help other parents realize that children need to be protected. It was a long journey to reach to the point where I could speak about my experiences with anyone. These experiences from my childhood affected me deeply; however, I have overcome them, learned from them and I have contributed at a higher level because of them.
Adversity enhances ones’ positive characteristics due to the provision of an ideal environment for establishing integrity and developing a mature mindset. This conclusion is valid because people tend to learn from their mistakes, thus gain a broader perspective on life.
Throughout my high school education I have been faced with several challenges and rather than letting the weight and responsibility of my life crush me I endured and completed my task. When my father was gunned down over winter break my freshman year of highschool I did not let the struggle of managing my grief along with my studies stop me from passing any of my classes. When the next year my mother was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer though i did stumble I did not allow myself to be overwhelmed by the situation. I managed a precarious balance between school and home but balance them I did. When the
Most people tend to let ones anxiety control him, their fears scare them and obstacles get in their way. If one lets this get in his way, then there’s no possible way that he will be able to overcome his obstacles. For example, a great artist named Phil Hansen had been diagnosed with nerve damage and he let his obstacles get in his way of creating art. In addition to this, a journalist named James Collier suffered of anxiety and he let his anxiety control him. Hansen had to embrace his shake, Collier overcame his anxiety and I had to overcome anxiety at a certain point in my life as well. Having that said, overcoming obstacles will allow one to surpass his.
As a child my parents worried about my educational development. They didn’t know if I was going to be able to keep up with the other children. I was in the third grade and didn’t know any English. I struggled academically my remaining elementary years to catch up to the other children, but it wasn’t long until I exceeded my peers in middle school.
I had to overcome many obstacles in my life, but the most difficult one I had to overcome was people. I say this because sometimes certain individuals will try to knock you down or make you feel like you are less then what you are. My whole life I had many people who told me I didn’t have the ability to do something. For example many of my peers told me I was too small to play freshmen football three years ago. I almost believe them because I did realize that I only stood 4 feet 11inches tall and only weighed 83.5 pounds. Although my love for the game driven me to have faith in myself and I was going to prove to everyone that size didn’t matter and it is the will in the person that determines if they can play. I didn’t get much playing time freshmen year most of it was on special teams and probably got a hand full of downs on defense.
In life, people will always have something to say about you in everything one does in life, either negative or positive, but it’s the moment when you let what is said upon you affect the way you live your life, that when its becomes a problem. I for myself have been victim of so many people saying things about me and letting get into my head, but I had the courage to overcome a lot of obstacles like that. I have struggled with a lot of obstacles in my life some got the better of me while I have been able to overcome most of them. I am writing this essay to give an example of an obstacle which I struggled with for a very long time and I nearly took the best of me, but with time I was able to overcome it.
Throughout the entirety of my life I always have and always will face obstacles: I am a girl, I am African-American, I have a disabled brother, I have a single parent. Though these aspects of my life have created challenges, I am proud of who I am and I love my life. These challenges have molded my character and shaped me to be the person I am today and without these obstacles, I might not have been as driven to succeed, despite what has happened in my life that may have caused me to
Throughout life, you are obligated to endure many obstacles and obstructions. I had a vast number of hardships and found not all to be triumphant. Life is all about perseverance, motivation, how you handle tough times, and what you do to get passed them. Such hardships can include failure in a task in which great effort was given, the passing of a loved one, even fighting with a very close friend can all have devastating effects on ourselves.
One of my hardest adversities took place around one and a half years ago. One of my teachers had found Gatton Academy, and told me about it, and, eventually, sent my parents to look into it. Soon we discovered that Gatton was a capital opportunity for me. In fact, as I had finished the majority of the math classes at the school, they thought it a stupendous idea to advance me a couple of grades. As I needed my freshman grades for Gatton, they brought me to the ninth grade. This was quite tough for me, as I would need to say adieu to long-time comrades (or at least visit with them less often), and would need to find an entirely new group of friends, which I feared may not exist. However, realizing that opportunity was there to be taken, I took
Overcoming Obstacles Throughout a persons life, they are faced with different obstacles, and different challenges of all different types. My life in particular has been full of ups and downs, especially towards my soccer career. In the novel The Pact, three boys, George, Rameck, and Sam, are faced with many obstacles throughout their lives, where they must learn to overcome and achieve great success on their own will power. Essentially, I did the same thing. My soccer career has been one of my most difficult life challenges, creating the person I am today.
Teenagers everywhere have to deal with depression and anxiety holding them back. In the end what got me through mine was courage. The courage to stand up against myself. What I was so afraid of was just problems that I had made up in my mind. If I had not stood up and spoke about my problems I don 't think I would be here today to talk about them. I can proudly say that courage is what got me through some of the hardest times in my life so far. I am also happy to report that I am doing so much better. I no longer think of myself as a burden on my friends and family. I enjoy every aspect of life and can 't wait to continue on wherever my journey takes
An obstacle that I faced and overcame was when I played football freshman year of high school. I was by far the smallest kid on the team, and yet I still managed to play through the whole season. I was able to overcome this by being diligent in practice and the film room, and also paying attention and learning the most I could from my coaches. Another setback I faced during this was that it was my first year playing football. I had a huge disadvantage against many of the other players who had played for many years, and worked on improving their skills during that time. As a novice, I knew I would not be able to compete for a starting spot, but I knew that I had a good chance at earning a backup spot. All throughout the blistering, muggy, summer
Something that I really struggled with was the passing of my Grandmother. She was a strong woman and an inspiration to everybody in my family. I think that I struggled with it because she was a great human being, I kind of looked up to her a bit, and of course she was part of my family. I think that along with her passing, I struggled with the fact that she died when I thought that she did nothing wrong in her entire life and did not deserve to die. Mainly the fact that she was a really good person and she just died like that.
Because of what I learned from hitting this “hurdle” in life, I have decided to make the most out of the life I have been given. Overcoming the adversity of losing a loved one has not only challenged me, but has given me a perspective and wisdom that most people are only able to learn through challenges like this one. Life is unpredictable. Like hurdles, life evokes fear, strength, and courage. Life is often like a race, everyone is forced to face their own obstacles, however, like Nelson Mandela once said, “Our greatest glory lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.” Throughout life, everyone is bound to face their own set of hurdles, however, the important part is learning to get up, keep moving, and apply what was learned from the experience to overcoming the next
