As an individual we do grow by overcoming adversity. But we also grow as individuals in other ways and situations. Adversity comes in many ways and all types of life. In the short film rhinos by Marcus, they use justification to show adversity and both Ingrid’s and Thomas’s life. they both grow in the film together by overcoming adversity. The main challenge that they face and have to overcome together is their language barrier. Thomas spoke English well Ingrid spoke another language. The start of the short film, when they first meet they do not understand each other at all. By the end of the short film they have learned each other semiotics and grow together to understand what the other one wants and what they needed. And a full world stand.
We do grow with and overcoming adversity. But we also grow with overcoming happiness and sadness those things may not come with challenges but we do learn from them and become a new version of ourselves. And example I can think of when someone is in a relationship they can be very happy and grow with each other. Whether or not that the relationship has challenges you do grow with your significant other. By doing things together that you used to do alone. Becoming one person instead of two separate people. Having to change yourself to fit in with another. Relationships come with a lot of adversity, And challenges most of our growth is gained through the ability to become our own individual person. Around six months old you start learning how to crawl which is an obstacle. Next between nine and 12 months you learn how to walk and you start talking and on the lower level as an infant that would be Overcoming adversity. Which may not seem large now, but I thought age that is something new and hard that you have to overcome, which is facing adversity and a young age. Age 5 you be in school for the next 13 years of your life. That is the start to living a life and having to overcome adversity with learning new things and meeting new people and starting your life. School comes with many challenges such as learning new things that you’ve never heard of before, having to deal with adversity when it comes to making new friends. In basketball, the National Championship game is the dream of every kid that plays basketball in college. NC State’s basketball team wasn’t well known in 1983. Jim Valvano was the coach and he knew he had a great group of kids. When they won the ACC tournament against the great Ralph Sampson and Virginia, people thought that the win was just luck and they probably wouldn’t make last when they got into the tournament. Throughout the tournament, NC State kept surviving and advancing. In Johnathan Hock’s documentary “Survive and Advance”, Hock uses stock footage of the games that were played during the tournament, different points of view from the players, and the sequence of the documentary to prove that NC State’s basketball team were the underdogs during the whole tournament; however they were able to win despite their adversity
“Courage is rightly esteemed the first of human qualities […] because it is the quality that guarantees all others” (Winston Churchill). This quote attests to the importance of the courage portrayed in The Help and Water for Elephants and emphasizes why courage is a defining trait of the characters. In both novels, the characters are confined and put through pain and suffering but in the end demonstrate tremendous amounts of courage in order to overcome their oppression. In The Help, the coloured help are confined to living life in an era full of racism, they are put through pain and suffering by the way they are treated by their employers and the members of their community. The characters demonstrate
When individuals face obstacles in life, there is often two ways to respond to those hardships: some people choose to escape from the reality and live in an illusive world. Others choose to fight against the adversities and find a solution to solve the problems. These two ways may lead the individuals to a whole new perception. Those people who decide to escape may find themselves trapped into a worse or even disastrous situation and eventually lose all of their perceptions and hops to the world, and those who choose to fight against the obstacles may find themselves a good solution to the tragic world and turn their hopelessness into hopes. Margaret Laurence in her short story Horses of the Night discusses the idea of how individual’s responses
A human being is a complicated entity of a contradictory nature where creative and destructive, virtuous and vicious are interwoven. Each of us has gone through various kinds of struggle at least once in a lifetime ranging from everyday discrepancies to worldwide catastrophes. There are always different causes and reasons that trigger these struggles, however, there is common ground for them as well: people are different, even though it is a truism no one seems to able to realize this statement from beyond the bounds of one’s self and reach out to approach the Other.
Moments in life make up a person as scenes make up a movie. Celie had to suffer all her life. She gave up on some of the joys that family could have brought. She was abused and beaten because of the way she looked. No one looked underneath to see what she had to offer. Her sister knew, but she was taken away and Shug also learned, but she never stayed. It wasn’t until Celie understood her worth that it made a difference. Once, Celie knew she could do anything she wanted, that was when she made a difference. She chose a better life and became something. She became something without the help of the people that hated her. When we fight, fight for our rights and freedoms that is when we can become something that others envy. We have to love ourselves before someone can truly love us.

Although the movie The Lion King is often times viewed as nothing more than a child-based movie, in actuality, it contains a much deeper meaning. It is a movie that not only displays the hardships of maturation, and the perplexities associated with growing, but it is also a movie that deals with the search for one's identity and responsibility. As said by director Julie Taymor, "In addition to being a tale about a boy's personal growth, the `Lion King' dramatizes the ritual of the `Circle of Life'." Throughout The Lion King, Simba must endeavor through the cycle of birth, death, and rebirth to take his place in the circle of life, as king of the pridelands.
I chose to view the movie Lion, a movie based on the book A Long Way Home by Saroo Brierley. This movie is about a five-year-old boy, Saroo, living in a poor, rural area in India. Saroo convinces his older brother Guddu, to let him tag along and find work in a nearby city. Saroo ends up trapped and alone in a decommissioned passenger train that takes him to Calcutta, over 1,000 miles away from his home.
Success without adversity is impossible. Everyone in life has their ups and downs and nothing in this world is perfect. At some point in life, hardships begin to occur and that’s when the real test begins. Some people rise up and try their absolute best to take a stand against the challenge. Then there are others that would crawl back into their shells, crying for mercy. There should be no excuse for giving up or not putting in the effort. People are only successful in winning the battle of adversity when they are mentally tough. The intense game of adversity can be referred to football.
“There is no better than adversity. Every defeat, every heart break, every loss, contains its own lesson on how to improve.” Malcolm X. Throughout the entire existence of mankind, there have been countless scenarios of individuals facing adverse conditions. War, famine, freak, weather. Malcolm X faced cancerous adversities plagued within the society; racism. Racism is slowly being squeezed out, however, new challenging adversities are evolving. The future is not utopia. Mankind continues to evolve, where groups and individuals are faced with the harshest circumstances. However, like Malcolm X they will triumph, in a way the world won’t. Just like Malcolm X in the past, the 1997 film “Gattaca” has replaced the traditional racism with a thing called Genoism. The main protagonist, Vincent, is able to overcome these adverse conditions. Contrasting to triumphing over adverse conditions, various other films including ’12 Monkeys’ and ‘The Pedestrian’ explore individuals not capable of triumphing. This leaves the main protagonist to feel failure and exclusion from the norm.
All friendships and relationships face challenges due to emotional settings, it is what individuals choose to do to conquer those difficulties that determine if their relationship can stand the test of time. In the novel A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks and the movie The Mighty directed by Peter Chelsom, they both prove that courage and being supportive help create a stronger bond within a relationship. Through examining the emotional setting of school bullying and social status, it is evident that a relationship where individuals have the courage to embrace their differences that make them outcasts and their friendship based around supporting one another can endure the test of time. Overcoming adversity is imperative. In fact, you can 't have the happiness and success you want unless you have adversity in your life and overcome it. It is essential for progressing into who you want to be. It shows you what you are made of. It teaches you more about yourself, how to approach what you want, and how to maintain the success that you have. Without it, you wouldn 't know how far you could go or how capable you are because you wouldn 't have anything to push you or compare to.
