not actually COMPARING anything. Pursing life remains problematic during the course of achieving our academic endeavors. Individuals in some cases in this world do not respond well to changes. Transactions from the elementary level to middle school consist of several unusual adjustments. This particular time in a child’s life allows growth and awareness. Exploring the interests of learning remains the ultimate goal but the middle school level allows you to grow and adapt to change. Entering middle school remains the beginning of most students’ life.
Waking up earlier each day to go to school allows you to get out of school earlier. Time management becomes the first learning point of attending middle school. Being on time in the morning is important, but transition from one class to the next remains the ultimate turning point into being successful. During the course of the day you are entitled to report to seven different classes included lunch. Students’ minds inside the classroom are constantly being challenged with growth due to numerous styles of learning that they receive from different …show more content…
teachers. Therefore, life outside of the classroom is quite interactive. In between classes each student has the pleasure to socialize with fellow schoolmates before their next class. Students are held responsible to pay very close attention to the class bell. During that time students gain the opportunity to practice privacy by owning a locker. Nobody knows an individual's locker combination but the individual. Students can store all their belongings within the locker. The diversity of students permits an individual to experience life in a friendly and educational environment. While attending school, students will meet others from different parts of the city or town. If a student is interested in sports and activities this is their opportunity to compete on the school team and join the different clubs within the school. Spending time competing and interacting with one another will help expand the mind outside of the classroom. Celebrating a win with friends or going to the school dance for the first time remains a joyous and epic moment in a child's life. The joy of experiencing life at school does not match the reward of getting home early before younger scholars to complete assignments and play. On the contrary elementary school permits students to stay in their comfort zone without venturing out.
Waking up at a later time to attend school gives students comfort. Students are familiar with the same learning environment with the same style of teaching. Your mind at the elementary level is not fully challenged with different styles of teaching because each student stays assigned to that particular teacher for the entire school year. Students do not transition themselves from one class to the next. The only transitions are held to lunch, recess, music, the restroom and gym; which are done in a single file line. Interacting with fellow schoolmates becomes hard due to the lack of transition from one class to the next. During the school year students will spend majority of their time with the same classmates that they share teacher with. Elementary students’ gain no sense of privacy, everything remains unlock and visible within the classroom. All of their belongings are store inside of their desks, their coats and bags are stored in a cubby without a
lock. Unlocking life inside of the classroom may have some effects on life outside of the classroom. If an elementary school student is interested in sports they have to wait until they are in middle school to join because sports teams are not held at the elementary level. Neither are school dances, but they do have carnivals for all students every year. Life remains straight forward without numerous changes and excitement being showed each day. Experience brings growth and change. Life in middle school will allow students to step out of their ideal comfort zone to challenge themselves mentally and socially. Education as a whole is not only the challenge of the mind but it is also the willingness to change your mind from stationary thinking.
Making the transition from middle school to high school is a huge stepping stone in a teenager’s life. High school represents both the ending of a childhood and the beginning of adulthood. It’s a rite of passage and often many teens have the wrong impression when beginning this passage. Most began high school with learning the last thing on their mind. They come in looking for a story like adventure and have a false sense of reality created through fabricated movie plots acted out by fictional characters. In all actuality high school is nothing like you see in movies, television shows, or what you read about in magazines.
When in the course of human events, students should be entering school a little bit later than the usual. This will give the student more sleep time which then will allow the student to think better when in school. This will also help a student be fully awake and not be sleeping in class. Students will pay more attention and will be ready to learn. Waking up early and going to school early makes a student be sleepy in class. We the students should be getting a later start in school.
Middle Childhood is a distinct period of development where a child develops physically, cognitively and social-emotionally. Between the school years of 3 and 7, children begin to gain an understanding of themselves in comparison to others, learn large amounts of information, manage their behaviour and also develop self-concepts and self-esteem. (McDevitt & Ormrod, 2010.)
The repetitive structure of a school day, in a way, provides me with a sense of security, an awareness of what to expect, but it can be monotonous and lack excitement. When you consider how much time students spend in school it is clear that the experience shapes their lives and can have a lasting effect. It is for this reason that it is crucial to have the correct balance of conformity and individuality for the benefit of both civilization and individuals.

Judith Owens, M.D., M.P.H., Director of Sleep Medicine, Children’s National Medical Center stated that, “There’s no question that later [school] start times pose significant challenges and barriers, … but [making a change to the these start times] is something within our control, something we can change to make a significant impact on the long-term health of children” (Clarkson para. 29) The issue regarding when the start to the school day should begin may not seem like a threatening topic that drastically affects our lives, but as Owens stated it has a “long-term” effect on the generations of tomorrow. In order words, the school start times do affect many individuals, not only in the present, but carries it out throughout their lives. These long-term effects may come from the result of sleep deprivation and stress piled upon students during the school year. These issues may not seem rather insignificant at its moment, but they can and will negatively affect the children. Therefore, the starting times for schools should be pushed back a least an hour to not only to benefit the students physically and mentally, but also academically, and although there are some conflicts in doing so, the overall outcome results in giving adolescents a healthier future, with a chance of reaching greater opportunities.
In addition to playing difficult games, children start to become part of a social world. School is age graded, meaning that students are placed in grades based on their age. At the beginning of one’s journey of gaining more knowledge, most children don’t mind school, for it is a change of environment for them. The majority of elementary school adolescents even enjoy school to some degree. As time wears on, we usually, and sadly, begin to see a change of heart. Children become fatigued from school and therefore don’t take pleasure in going anymore.
