Outline For Gun Control

I. Gun control has been a controversial issue for years. A vast majority of citizens believe that if gun control is strictly enforce it would quickly reduce the threat of crime.
II. Gun control is controversial subject because some people have guns to protect themselves, feel safe others want it to do harm. "There are people who want to own guns for recreational or self-defense purposes, and on the other side, I don't think anyone wants to see someone walk into a crowded movie theater and kill people," said Art Markman, professor of psychology at the University of Texas. The goal is obvious: protect the former while minimizing the chance of the latter. With recent events causing tragedy and sadness, violent acts and massacres caused by guns

have raised the issue of gun control. Many people fall either on one side of the spectrum, or the other. It is hard to see the middle ground, as it is difficult to say, “I want guns to be banned, but I don’t want our society to be defenseless”, or, “I don’t want guns to be controlled, but I want gun violence to stop”. This topic is so controversial, as it really is so difficult to decide what the best plan of action is. But, a solution must be found. With recent events such as, the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, the Aurora Movie Theater shooting, Chardon High School shooting, it is hard to not view gun control as a very important issue that must be resolved. Our safety as a country needs to be resurrected, as people should not fear going to the movies, school, malls, etc.
III. Opponent thinks that gun control doesn’t make a country,state,or city safer but it’s wrong because most studies suggest that gun laws reduce violence.
