In the Diary of Anne Frank It took place when Adolf Hitler gained power as a German leader. His Nazi Regime also rose to power and were persecuting Jews. Anne Frank’s father Otto Frank heard about the terrible news and knew he had to go into hiding to protect his family. On July 6, 1942 Otto took his family to Amsterdam where his business was. They went to his office building where they hid in the Secret Annex. They hid for 2 years and sadly were discovered and taken to Concentration camps on August 4, 1944. Otto Frank was the only member of his family to survive the Concentration camps. Otto Frank showed a lot of courage during those difficult times. Otto Frank showed compassion when he was in the Concentration Camp. He showed it by telling his friends he made the camp to not think about being hungry or cold. He wanted to get their minds off it and talk about something else. He also told them that because he didn't want them to become crazy like the other people. I think that was very brave of Otto to be like that knowing his conditions. Sacrificing is “to surrender or give up, or permit injury or disadvantages to, for the sake of something else or someone else” according to dictionary.com. Otto Frank sacrificed a lot. He let four other people hide in the Secret Annex with him and his family. Putting his family at risk of getting caught easier and being sent to a Concentration Camp. Otto could have just said no it’s just going to be me and my family, but he didn’t. I think that was very risky of him. Otto Frank was so strong, caring, and fearless in Anne Frank. I think that’s what made him so worthy and such a great role model. Having and doing those things must have been very necessary during those stressful and difficult times. If I were a kid during those times I feel I would be strong and have hope. I would be strong because I already know i'm strong and if I got through that I would be invincible.
