Oscar Pistorius is a well known for being an athlete and is a professional runner. When he was born, Oscar had both of his legs amputated and used prosthetics from a very early age. This didn’t stop him though. Despite having to use prosthetic legs, he made it through his early years, went on to become an athlete and was known all around the world, and set world records. Everything was going great for him, until he was accused of murdering his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, on Valentines Day. He claims that it was self defense and that he thought she was an intruder, but there are many people who just don’t believe this to be true. Did Oscar Pistorius murder his girlfriend, or was it an accident?
Oscar Pistorius was born November 22nd, 1986. He was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, but his hometown is Pretoria, South Africa. His full name is Oscar Leonard Carl Pistorius. When Oscar was born, he didn’t have a fibula in either of his legs. According to the article, the fibula is “the long, slender bone running along the outside of the leg from below the knee joint and down to the ankle” (“ABOUT OSCAR PISTORIUS”). Sheila and Henk Pistorius (mother and father) made the difficult decision to have both of Oscar’s legs amputated below the knee, giving Oscar a Bi-lateral below both of his knees. Six months after the amputation, he was given his first set of prosthetic legs and within a couple of days, Oscar understood them forwards and backwards. He wasn’t going to let having prosthetic legs keep him down and stop him from achieving his goals.
Growing up, Oscar was raised in a very active family. He became involved in many types of activities, such as water polo and rugby. These were two of his favorite sports to participate in. In June o...

Kemper felt that his grandmother treated him the same as his mother did, therefore making it easy for him to displace his anger onto her. On one August afternoon in 1963, Kemper shot his grandmother in the back of the head with a .22 caliber rifle and stabbed her repeatedly about the body. When his grandfather returned home, he also used the gun on him shooting him as he exited his vehicle (Fisher, 2003b). This was the first murders of the future serial killer known as the “Co-ed Killer”.
One of the first murders he performed was on his girlfriend’s family. Whether Caril Ann Fugate was an active participant or not, Starkweather murdered three of her family members in cold blood with disregard to Fugate’s feelings. The murder of her Fugate’s two and a half year old sister shows that Starkweather acted impulsively. Starkweather recalled that she would not stop crying so he “needed to shut he...
Death race 2000 PHILADELPHIA, PA - Tamika Ross, 26, is being held for trial on charges of the murder of Nathaniel Davis. Apparently Ross ran over Davis' hat with her car. When Davis confronted the driver a dispute erupted and Davis allegedly hit Ross. That's when the mother of five took matters into her own hands and ran him over with her car, killing him. When questioned, police quoted Ross as saying, "He hit me so I ran him down."
As Miller and Wilson revealed, athleticism is not always analogous with success. Willy regarded Biff highly because he observed Biff’s presence and athleticism, and he believed these qualities would result in immediate success. Today many parents associate sports with success and therefore pressure their children to excel in sports. In today’s society it is very rare that fears of discrimination would cause children to not pursue a lucrative career in sports. Both Miller and Wilson knew the impact of sports on family dynamics, and how sports have evolved from a leisure time activity to a full-time commitment. Clearly, many of the qualitative aspects of sports--competition, teamwork and physical dexterity can contribute to being a success in almost any career.

The history of sports goes back since ancient times. It has been a useful way for people to explore nature and their environment. Sports include different activities and games such as football, soccer, basketball, and etc. to express their skills and talents. Also, sports are a way to relax and have fun; but are sports all our African Americans rely on? The dream to become future sports stars. The reason why Gates begins his essay with an anecdote is to show and compare how many african-american athletes were at work today and how little the chances of African-Americans becoming athletes are compared to being a lawyer, dentist, or even a doctor. African-Americans assume that they are born athletes and it’s because the school system doesn’t teach them reality and educate them to undertake more realistic goals for careers.
It has been named the Trial Of the Century. Everyone’s eyes were glued to their television screens. Everyone’s jaws were dropped while listening to the radio. And the only thing they wanted to know; was O.J Simpson guilty? The talented running back turned TV personality was being tried for two murders. In the end O.J. was acquitted. It came as a shock to many, as well as a victory to others. With a handful of evidence against him, some thought there was no way he could be found not guilty. O.J. Simpson’s “dream team” was able to win the case because the prosecution did not evaluate the evidence close enough before presenting it in trial.
Two dead bodies and one very guilty man, but no jail time. The OJ Simpson murder trial in 94’ may have been the biggest happening in that year. The bodies of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman were found stabbed to death in Nicole’s home in LA. OJ was boarding a flight when the murders went public; he quickly became the first suspect in the case. The trial went on and the jury found him not guilty of the murders, despite overwhelming evidence showing his connection to the murder. In the controversial case of the killings of Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman, the innocent ruling incorrectly acquitted O.J. Simpson; OJ killed both of them because he possessed a motive, attempted to escape and cover up the crime,
On the night of February 4th 1999, Amadou Diallo, an unarmed and innocent African immigrant, was gunned down in a hail of 41 bullets while standing in the vestibule of his own apartment building in the Bronx. The officers responsible for Diallo's death were part of New York Police Department's "elite" Street Crime Unit. The plain-clothes officers approached Diallo and pulled their weapons. When Diallo, probably believing they were thieves, pulled out his wallet, the "elite" officers opened a barrage of 41 bullets on the unarmed black man.
OJ Simpson, one of football’s most legendary players, was admired and extolled by many sports-lovers from across the nation. From being selected as the number one player in the 1969 draft to being named NFL’s Player of the Year three times, he led a life of success and fame (CNN.com). Yet behind this renowned MVP, there stood a dark side. In June of 1994, Simpson was arrested for allegedly murdering his wife, Nicole Simpson, and family friend, Ronald Goldman. Simpson pleaded not guilty and eventually won his trial, but his reputation and status were far from recovery. In September of 2007, Simpson was once again arrested, this time on grounds of robbery and kidnapping sports memorabilia. Simpson is a fine example to the age old argument that celebrities should not be given special treatment in the court room because at the end of the day, no matter now powerful they might be, they’ve committed a crime and should pay for their wrongdoing.
...iately afterwards. He knows he has done wrong and has to serve his time. If anything these two characters are alike; both fighting, killing, for the people they love.
