“Say Victoria Quintero; say Victoria Quintero.” all lingered and whispered throughout her family and friends. It was just last year that the host called The Orlando Magic’s Top 20 Dancers who made the team. Her name was not called, nothing was making sense as the host said, and “Here is your 2013-2014 Orlando Magic Dancers!” All of Victoria’s fans were extremely devastated, especially for her. She put everything into becoming an Orlando Magic Dancer: blood, sweat, tears and a brutal competition. Unfortunately, that was not Victoria’s year to shine. After the ceremony, I could tell that she was so full of sorrow and pain from not making the cut. She is only five feet tall, but she has a strong mind and the powerful Cuban mentality, from being …show more content…
A small high-up platform stage that over 400 people gathered around. Everyone is screaming, clapping, and cheering for their dancer, whom they have shown up for. The music is blasting and getting everyone pumped up to see how hard these women have worked. All of the dancers walk out one by one as the host introduces them to the audience. I could only imagine how nervous, but yet excited Victoria and all the other rookie candidates were to walk out on the stage. Victoria has persevered when she auditions for a second time, for the 2014-2015 season, she was prepared physically and mentally. Having her return has set her apart from other candidates because she has shown her devotion and determination. This year she was determined to make The Orlando Magic Dancers, because she knew the process and what to expect. Keeping a close eye on all of the veterans was Victoria’s secret because they have already made the team in the previous years, due to their high performances and …show more content…
Confidence isn’t gained over night, it is something you feel and work towards; weather it be in class or on a stage, you work towards not being a vulnerable dancer, and showing that you are proud of your dancing. Victoria gained her confidence over the years of being a competitive dancer; the judges were always critiquing her so she could improve her dancing. Going into college, she auditioned for KnightMoves at The University of Central Florida. After gaining two years of a college dance team experience she thought why not push myself harder and become a professional; this is when she decided to audition for The Orlando Magic Dancers. Victoria went to three out of four pre-clinics that they offered, and after every class she went up to the coaches and thanked them. From the coaches, saying “Thank you.” and “It was great seeing you again.” truly pushed her even more to make the team. Victoria said, “my hands were clammy waiting for my name and number to be called, my heart was racing and I tuned everything out. When they called me for the 2014-2015 season, I did not realize that it was me, I had thought it was Victoria Rose.” Standing right beside me was her family, after Victoria’s name was called her family started screaming and crying, they were so proud of her, and I was
I considered myself a performer, and after years training as a classical ballerina I expanded into stunting and tumbling. While on tour, I developed friendships and bonds with dancers strengthened by a mutual love for dance, a commonality over the pain our bodies endured daily, and conversations on bruised and broken toes.
and in front of the whole school during spirit week and international week, without a bit of apprehension. Gaining this confidence was and is the key to victories in dance competitions. Confidence and my familiarity with a variety of dance forms such as hip-hop, jazz, and several Indian classical dances can be credited to my winning first place in a memorable competition, where, for the first time, my two friends and I choreographed the dance piece that we performed. This experience also helped as the same friends and I had 2 weeks to choreograph, perfect, and perform alongside a famous Indian singer as he sang live. These values specifically pushed me advance further into the art form, and were also extremely useful outside of the dance
Come Wednesday night a legendary career will come to an end as Kobe Bryant plays his last game in the NBA. Since Early December the end when Kobe Bryant announced his retirement, many have been flocking to see Kobe play for one last time while other stars try to meet with him. Usually when players retire they’ll go off and do something else and we’ve heard a number of things that Kobe could do once he hangs his sneakers up. We know Kobe has his own business that he’ll likely focus on and some want him to join the NBA on TNT crew, but Bryant has no interest in the broadcasting route. Many of us would love to see Mamba coach but that’s something he doesn’t have any interest in doing either. When it’s all set and done what could we see Kobe do? Well here’s a wild card and it’s something
Ballerinas will never improve if they fall back into old, mundane, and routine habits. They must push themselves outside of their comfort zone in order to build stronger muscles, increase flexibility, and dance with increased grace. This self-motivation to be better helps dancers to be more successful in school, due to the fact that they have the inner drive to study, get the
I know that cheerleading is a sport. Have you ever got asked if you think that cheerleading is a sport or not. That is what I am going to tell you today. Cheerleading is just like football and basketball it is a game where you compete and get points. But with cheerleading it is not about throwing the ball accost a field or making a basket. It is about how well it is performed. To do good they have to prates a lot and they also have to have a lot of upper body mussel.
Li’s passion for ballet shows on and off stage through his arabesques, flexibility, fouettés, grande jeté and pirouettes that were nothing less than perfection. I understood that becoming a dancer requires commitment, passion and having a great memory as there’s many moves, routines and ballet terms that you need to learn. When I was performing on stage, I felt free and that I could own the stage as it felt like it was my second home. I also felt complete within myself just as Li felt. To perform on stage, you need to be light and graceful along with connecting to the music using precise steps, poses and formal gestures. The film used dance, music, scenery, and costumes to portray a story characterised by Li’s dance. Classical ballet dancers require the utmost grace and I’ve found that you also need a tremendous level of concentration and memory. This portrays when his choreographer Ben Stevenson asked Li Cunxin to replace the main male role due to an injury on the day of the performance to memorise new dances and perform them in front of an enormous crowd. Many of my performances have been in a group where we all need to be in sync and work together. This film highlighted that in order to become a professional ballet dancer, you have to prepare to work extremely hard no matter how gruelling the schedule is in order to
Let me first apologize about the amount of emails that have been sent and the hectic first week of basketball about the practice schedules. I know everyone is busy, so it's hard to have a time that is going to be good for everyone, but thank you for the patience and support. Good news though, we have figured out our practice schedule, so it will minimize the conflict that was happening with band. Instead of 3:45 on Mondays, we will now be starting at 4:15, that way the girls will only be missing 15 minutes of practice instead of the 45 minutes. However, our principal does not like the kids hanging out in the halls after school waiting for basketball to start. I am hoping to get a couple parent volunteers that can come after
“Iguodala to Curry, back to Iguodala, up for the layup! Oh! Blocked by James! LeBron James with the rejection!” These were the words spoken by ESPN’s Mike Breen during Game 7 of the 2016 NBA Finals, describing one of the best defensive plays in NBA history. Hello, I am Steven Lai, and we are here today to celebrate LeBron James. We celebrate him because he is one of the greatest basketball players on the court and off the court. As a huge LeBron fan, I can tell you all why we are here to celebrate him. To celebrate LeBron James, I will talk about his accomplishments in the NBA, his social activism, and his charitable acts.
There is no arguing Walt Disney practiced what he preached. In fact, he did what he did so well that people continue to bring others to see what he did to this day, that being Disneyland. First, we’ll start by learning about the background history of Disneyland. Next, we’ll compare Disneyland from when it first started to what it has developed into. And finally, we’ll explore all the eight parks and what they have to offer.
The typical idea of a dancer is that they are tall, slender, full of energy, and lucky because they dance with all of the “stars”. Much of this is true, however, what many people do not think of are the many hardships that a dancer goes through in order to achieve their high status in the dance world. It takes much hard work and determination along with good direction to become a dancer. However, nothing good comes without a price. Dancers often times have many pressures put on them which can lead to physical and emotional damages. These damages occur through the pressures from the media, parents, teammates, and the stereotype that society has placed on dancers.
There is something beautiful about dance, but there is something more beautiful about dancing with others. When a group of 13 girls and 1 boy can come together from 14 different ways of life and move together as one, then a dance team becomes more than just a dance team. This was not something that happened overnight, it took time, effort and about 7 conversations with our coaches about our values. Without all of those components, this team would have never been the successful, fighting, dream team that we became. Explaining what it is like to be a member of the Kelly Kittens, almost like explaining the taste of water, it’s indescribable.
Do you really know everything about basketball? Basketball is an amazing sport in my opinion, but not a lot of people know a lot of things about it. Many people know the types of calls that are in basketball and how to play it. But a lot of people might not know the history of basketball. What I mean by this is, who invented it and when the first basketball game was ever played. I hope that I can teach you a lot more about the game of basketball. My new found knowledge about this sport is going to tell you about the history of basketball, basketball greats, what it takes to be in the NBA, and the tallest NBA players that have played that were very important and well known. If you follow the instructions for what it takes to be a NBA player hopefully one day you can make it to the big leagues. I hope my research helps you to understand more about basketball and hopefully influence you to be more active and practice everyday to get better.
Despite years of experience, my first performance in front of my high school’s student body prompted the most gut-wrenching stage fright I’ve ever experienced. But that small risk has paid off tenfold; I’ve foraged connections with faculty and students through dance. Furthermore, my love of movement has introduced me to other powerful modes of expression, whether it be crafting articles about dance for the school newspaper, mastering choreography as dance captain for the school musical, or exploring theater through Grotowski movement techniques. Perhaps most significantly, dance has exposed me to a diverse variety of people and experiences, ranging from performances raising awareness for gun violence, to teaching dance to enthusiastic children at local YMCAs, to participating in arts immersion programs that benefit at-risk youth in my
There are some amazing teams so we knew the chance of us winning is very slim ,so that's ok because we still work very hard at our dances since our coaches know that and so do we. Some girls just stare at you with this im-so-good-and-i'm-gonna-win face, the worst part of competitions. Screaming in hallways, turning on the floor, everyone supporting each other, the best part of being on dance team. Everyone understands this which makes our team work very well. Everyone works hard and truly loves to dance. I give up a lot for dance, it truly means alot to me, even if I don't get home until 10:30 and even when i'm as tired as horse I do it because I love dance with all my heart. And the hard work I put in always pays off. When I'm performing I remember all the late nights ,yet I know it was all worth it for those 2 minutes on the stage or
As a child I always wanted to be in the spotlight. I was always the ham in family pictures, the one who had to excel past my brother, and be in the know of everything. When I was about twelve years old, I realized that entertaining people was what I was all about. Since I wasn’t any good at telling the jokes around the campfire or singing acappella, I thought about trying my dance skills. I liked dancing and I have always enjoyed music videos like Janet Jackson’s “Miss you much”, so I thought why not? What did I have to lose? With the support of my parents, particularly my mom, I went for the gusto.
