Aggression is a sub-field under social psychology because social psychology is the study of how individual’s thoughts, feelings, and behavior changes in groups while interacting with other people. In all of these possibilities--instinct, heredity, hormones, or brain dysfunction--the aggression occurs without apparent provocation from the environment (although there is almost always a "target"). According to some of these theories, the need or urge to be aggressive is boiling within each of us and seeks opportunities to express itself. There is also clear evidence that alcohol consumption and hotter temperatures release aggression, but no one thinks there is something in alcohol or heat that generates meanness. Case studies are a collection of data obtained using various methods gathered on an individual or group to record areas of interest in order to assist with analysis and provide recommendations. The study should include the name of the person, although this should be protected to provide anonymity where appropriate, and a brief description of the subject. The setting where the study is to be performed should be included. The aim of the observation must be presented along with a report of the findings. The type of method used will depend upon the subject and the area of interest. Data is gathered on the subject in this case observations were used to provide the data. An interpretation of the study will be made in order to provide a conclusion and recommendations made if applicable. Freud famously used the case studies that he carried out on his patients to develop his Psychoanalytic Theory.
Aggression has been and is still is a complex form of emotion to understand. This term aggression cannot be precisely defined due to the different attribute of behaviours presented amongst organisms. According to Buss (1961, p1) as cited in Green (1990, p2) the definition of aggression “is a response that delivers noxious stimuli to another organism”. This definition by Buss (1961) is now what psychologist have now generalised as the standard definition of aggression. Therefore aggression is a behaviour that aims to injure a directed individual.
As the exposure to violence prolongs, a child begins to believe that violence is an acceptable behavior or the answer to receiving what they want. Outcomes such as trauma, emotional disorders, stress, and behavioral problems are also prevalent as the exposure to violence occurs. Children often learn their behavior from adults or peers and although a child might not be physically involved, but even being an audience, he/she is learning the negative behavior. There must be an effort to put a stop to violence in schools, households, or even in communities as it affects children greatly.
