What are your organized bargaining units (union representation)? Union representation is present in this agency. FPS employees are union with the exception of management. Contracted Protective Security Officers also are under a collective bargaining agreement. What are your organization’s special health and safety requirements? FPS maintains compliance with OSHA standards regarding safety and health regulations. (3) Assets What are your major facilities? technologies, and equipment? FPS is distributed across 11 regions and oversees the law enforcement and security for approximately 11,000 General Services Administration (GSA) owned and leased facilities in the United States. In order to provide security protection for these facilities
Despite attempting to predict the eventual outcome of the negotiation, I did not anticipate the confrontations between Local H-56 and the management of Hotel Zinnia. Although they initially agreed to engage in integrative bargaining, the union and management subsequently entered an intense negotiation. When Local H-56 presented its proposal of wage increases and health insurance, management immediately responded with a counterproposal that surprised the union. Both the union and management eventually behaved confrontationally, accusing each other of bargaining unreasonably and focusing on the trivial aspects of the negotiation. Moreover, as the union and management felt increasingly frustrated, they suffered from a lack of unity in their teams. The union could not fulfill its objectives because its lead negotiator prevented other team members from contributing to the negotiation. On the other hand, several team members of management struggled to assert their authority as the lead negotiator. After observing these issues, I ultimately believe that the union and management failed to achieve their individual objectives. Moreover, by approaching the negotiation with a zero-sum strategy, I assert that the union and management failed to reach a mutually beneficial contract. At the same time, both sides of the bargaining table lacked cohesive teams and therefore struggled under the pressure of the negotiation.

Magic Carpet Airlines (MCA) is in the midst of a collective bargaining negotiation with a union and this paper will present the case from the union’s side of the bargaining table. First, one must understand the meaning of collective bargaining negotiations; this is when both sides of the negotiations discuss wages and others perks and then come to an amicable agreement. Collective bargaining is not a simple negotiation process, because the employer and the union usually meet on more than one occasion, due to the fact that union negotiators must keep their members informed during the process and they must also present any offers to their constituents for a yes or no vote to accept said terms being offered by the employer. The textbook offered the Magic Carpet collective bargaining as a case study and students were asked to analyze the issues being negotiated, determine ways
Game Theory, originally derived from the subject of Mathematics, aims to provide a way to understand strategic social interactions; such as in the case of the Cuban Missile Crisis. It can be understood as the study and explanation of strategically, mutually-dependent actions and decisions (strategies), made by what are assumed to be ‘rational’ decision-makers (players) in competitive conditions that involve both conflictual and cooperative options (games); where the objective of each player is to achieve the most desirable outcome from a set of potential outcomes (payoffs) (Carlson & Dacey 2013; Myerson 1991; Prisner 2014; Turocy 2001). Despite being a mathematical theory, its application in international relations has been prominent
During the like roles meeting Tim and Jeanette discussed different approaches to the negotiation. Tim and Jeanette, as environmental league negotiators, were only concerned with two of the many issues scheduled to be discussed. These issues were the industry mix and the ecological impact. The team decided to set their opening and target for the industry mix at all clean. The reserve for the issue was set at clean/dirty. The opening and target for the ecological impact issue was set at improve. The reserve was decided to be maintain/repair. The team also noticed that in order to approve a proposal they would have to meet at the very least one of their targets and the other issue would have to be at the reservation point. This combination was the only way for Harborco to get the approval of the environmental league negotiator. Harborco's opening was already known to be set at primarily dirty for the industry mix and some harm for the ecological impact. The opening, target, and reserve were unknown for the other negotiators. The environmental league negotiators BATNA was if there was not enough points earned to approve the proposal, he or she would not approve it and still receive fifty points. The team also understood that if there were not enough points to approve the proposal the pie would not be expanded to greatest potential. Tim and Jeanette believed that all members would have to approve the proposal in order to reach par...
The second approach to bargaining is integrative bargaining which looks for win-win solutions, or outcomes in which both sides benefit. In other words it is negotiations between a union and management when the parties are not in direct conflict over an issue, and when both stand to benefit from continued discussions.
The topic for my real world negotiation is to come to an agreement with my supervisor for a promotion as well as an increased salary. I currently work as a student assistant at the student services Planning, Enrollment Management, and Student Affairs (PEMSA) department. My goal is to increase my hourly pay from $10.15 to $12.70, a 25% increase. Having worked in this department for three years, I have taken on tasks not part of my job description such as processing return mail, data entry, and supervision.
National labor unions was form in the United States in the mid-19th century just after the industrial revolution (Wiki, 2015). Organized mass productions of products and goods in factories changed the way people worked, as smaller businesses formed larger companies and independent owners became part of the working class. Organizational structuring, the development of hierarchy of employees can create inequalities within a workplace due to politics and greed. Owners, managers and those who make decisions to steer a company can often times fall into the trap of voracity and forget about front line worker’s well-being, working conditions, and of course income inequality. Unions were most important during the industrial revolution because there
Agreeing with other industry members what price to charge is known as collusion. Collusion is defined as “Action in concert without any formal agreement… [it] is common when anti-monopoly legislation makes explicit agreements illegal or unenforceable. Its existence is [sometimes] extremely difficult to prove” Black et al (2012). Within this analysis, I will explain what collusion is, the different types, why firms may enter into this agreement, then outline a past example and finally explain why this silent or spoken agreement may break down. Collusive agreements or cartels may however be created by governments to protect and positively influence markets, examples of this are the US sugar manufacturing cartel (operating between 1934-74) and OPEC which is still in operation today.
BUSI 2465 is an interesting course. I participated in numerous ways. I thought of this course as a bargaining process in which bargaining was used among two different business people in order to close a deal or come to an agreement. Before the first class I wondered if negotiations was only consist of winning over each other rather than for mutual gains. I only thought it would be distributive where both the parties keep their information and interests hidden and moreover it is one time relationship. But, I never thought it would be integrative where both the parties share information and interest with each other and continue the long term relationship. Another question comes into my mind was that what are the necessary skills behind winning
CBA  Collective Bargaining Agreements A collective bargaining agreement collectively sets the terms on which an employer offers individual work contracts to each of its employees in the bargaining unit. A bargaining agreement, also herein referred to as a labour agreement, is a legally enforceable written commitment, which states the rights and duties of all parties involved. The labour agreement should be made in good faith and is intended to be observed and not violated. The National Labour Relations Act obligates employers and unions to bargain in good faith concerning terms and conditions of employment, including hours and wages. Like any normal contract, competent parties must enter into a labour agreement.
Collective bargaining may happen in several kinds of fields, ranging politics to sports. It allows appropriate settlement of disputes and issues that benefit both parties involved, producing a result that is not one-sided. Collective bargaining is “the negotiation of wages and other conditions of employment by an organized body of employees” (Beal, Wickersham, & Kienast 5). Four issues that are probable components of a collective bargaining agreement are:
also lead to destructive actions. For people who wish to maintain a good relationship with the others involved, an integrative approach is better suited to long term relationships. However, if the relationship past the deal is not relevant and the negotiator is looking to maximize the value obtained in the bargain then distributive strategies are more useful.
In the workplace, disagreement or arguments may arise due to several reasons. This can further result into a state of antagonism or opposition, resentment, avoidance, verbal assaults, and inability to work together. Such may arise due to personality clashes, differences in style, differences in leadership, interdependence conflicts and differences in the background or gender. With reference to the conflict between Norm and Norma, disagreement arose due to differences in styles. This is because Norma was after quick result from the initiated project while Norm believed he could work from home and still meet the expected standard. However, Norma expected full commitment from all the staff under her. For good working relations, conflicts should always be resolved and hence improve good working relationship among the employees both the juniors and seniors. Professionally, conflicts can be solved via two models; circle of conflict and triangle of satisfaction (Susan Holton, 1998).
Regulation compliance, employee safety, fire safety, ergonomics, industrial hygiene, hazardous waste removal, training procedures, and management relations are samples of features taken into consideration during a Safety Major’s day. Though there are numerous specializations safety professions can choose, a base knowledge in all fields is essential for a successful career. Therefore, I intend to pursue a continuation of safety certifications that will demonstrate a persistent ability to learn about my career. For the initial duration of my profession, I hope to obtain an Environmental Health and Safety specialist entry level position for an established organization. If the opportunity arises, I will promote within the same organization until
