Oprah Winfrey one of the most influential woman in the world. Oprah Winfrey's past was not the brightest but now she's the brightest person out there. Oprah suffered lots from being abused, being sexually molested, to obesity. When oprah was 14 she gave birth to a premature baby, that died shortly after birth. After being molested by her mother's male friends she moved with her dad, who put her in a strict discipline school to change her life. Oprah's life changed drastically. Oprah became the first black woman to become anchor at Nashville WTF-TV. She was the 3rd woman in America to own a studio. She expanded her studio greatly making big profit and being known as the most wealthiest black woman as still today. Taking her step up she went to a television show called People Are Talking. Oprah Gail Winfrey was born on January 29, 1954 in Kosciusko, Mississippi living with a poor Baptist family (Wikipedia). Her parents, Vernon Winfrey and Vernita Lee were unmarried and still teenagers during the time she was born (Wikipedia). She lived with her grandmother where she would learn how to read aloud and recite sermons by the young age of 3 (America's Beloved Best Friend). At the age of 13 she would move to Milwaukee with her mother and that's when the trouble would start (America's Beloved Best Friend). She would face sexual abuse and molestation from her family relatives as a teenager, by her cousin, family friends, and her uncle (Victoria Walker). Oprah would keep this a secret and would bottle up her anger, which lead to trouble (Victoria Walker). She would repeatedly run away from home and was sent to juvenile detention, but her admission would be denied because the detention's overcrowded area (America's Beloved Best Friend). At the age of 14 she was impregnated by one of her abusers, but the baby would become stillborn, and this would devastate Oprah (Victoria Walker). Her mother would send her to live with her father as a last resort. She vowed to change her life (Victoria Walker).
Oprah has been known as “one of America’s top 50 most generous philanthropist” as she continues to contribute ten percent of her income ($385 million in 2008) to her favorite charities, related to education, youths, and literature. She had donated millions to Tennessee State University which is her alma mater as part of the scholarship funds, The United Negro Fund, to encourage young black Americans to pursue their dreams, and the Harold Washington Library, which is a program for economically disadvantaged Chicago-area young girls.
Those girls will appreciate Oprah for the rest of their lives because she gave them an opportunity they originally would not have had. Oprah also had her career going for her when she became Miss Black Tennessee at age 17. When Oprah became Miss Black Tennessee she was offered a radio broadcasting job and a full scholarship to Tennessee. Oprah had quite a few talk shows yet she made the most money off her own show, The Oprah Winfrey Show, and now has her individual network called The Oprah Winfrey Network. During her childhood years living with her mother, Oprah had very little money and life was difficult. She wants to help as many children as possible grow up in a sound, safe, and educational environment. Oprah has changed the world with all of her organizations and charity efforts. Oprah Winfrey has helped thousands of children attend school with her scholarships that she has funded. Many of these children would never go to school or continue their college career without her amazing efforts of providing financial support to these children. She is most famous for being the host of the Oprah Winfrey Show, an award-winning talk show where she discussed various topics including the importance of donating to charity. Winfrey won several Emmy Awards for her show, including seven for Outstanding Host, and nine for Outstanding Talk Show (“Oprah Winfrey’s Official Biography”). However, Oprah’s legacy did not stop here. She also contributed millions of her riches to charity.
Since Oprah is such a wealthy person she benefits the community by giving charity consistently. Oprah gave back to her community, “in the 2008 presidential election, Winfrey publicly endorsed a political candidate for the first time, hosting a fundraiser for Senator Barack Obama and appearing with him at campaign events. It is widely believed that her support was crucial to his winning the Democratic nomination -- and the Presidency itself. ”(1) Oprah helped Barack Obama during the presidential election using her influence on America and her riches.

This story really hurt Oprah Winfrey, because of her experiences as a child, so after hearing it, she stood up for children by creating the National Child Protection Act to help prevent child abuse in 1994. In 1997, Oprah wanted her viewers to make a difference in other people’s lives by donating their spare change. Shortly after that, she transformed that into the charity known as “Oprah 's Angel Network”. This charity was a huge success and has helped a lot of individuals in need.
