The world is facing an apocalyptic event where the emotional and psychological sustainability of mankind is at risk. The two women, Burmese politician and democracy activist Aung San Suu Kyi and philanthropist and actress Oprah Winfrey should both be ensured their survival as they have the aptitude to keep humanity emotionally and psychologically sustained meaning that they can make individuals perfect their centeredness, growth and can maintain happiness and self growth among the world wide community.
Aung San Suu Kyi’s political career demonstrates how she enlightens and voices the issues of her country and how she stood up against the military dictatorship. In 1988, she returned back to Burma to care for her terminally ill mother from years of living and studying abroad where she was only to find widespread slaughter of protestors rallying against the barbaric rule of dictator U Ne Win. Suu Kyi began speaking out criticizing him where she had democracy and fundamental human rights as a priority for Burma in her campaign. She had the audacity to voice and stand opposing the military dictatorship’s rule where she could have easily been slaughtered due to the corruptive nature of the military government. This displays that she was willingly to sacrifice herself for the benefit of

Her charity work combines to a total where she has donated more than $50 million to charity, which includes 50 local organizations such as the Children’s Memorial Hospital and the Chicago Academy of the Arts. To add to her philanthropist title, she sold off some of her clothes where that money including a million dollar check was sent to Chicago’s Providence ST. Mel
This bold sentence serves as an attention grabber as it challenges a common dogma once stated by John Dalberg, “ Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” By making this brief but, powerful statement, Aung Sang Suu Kyi surprises her audience by blaming them for the corruption of the government making her audience more keen to understand her point of view. Aung Sang Suu Kyi then directs her words towards her Burmese people as she alludes to specific words such as “ Chanda- gati”, “Dosa-gati”, “Bhaya-gati” and “ Chanda-gati” (Kyi, 1) to explain the corruption of her land in the words of her people. This builds ethos as she can connect to her people and clearly explain how “chanda-gati” or the corruption built by fear is the most dangerous form of corruption. She can then further explain how the only way to root out the corruption of the Burmese Army and gain freedom is to first eradicate the people's fear of the government and instill confidence in the basic human rights of the Burmese
The definition of a renaissance man or woman is a person who is well educated and sophisticated and who has a talent and knowledge of many different fields of study. Oprah is a show host, actress, philanthropist, and producer. I believe that Oprah Winfrey is our modern day Renaissance woman.
Oprah is one of the most well known and revered celebrities worldwide. What make Oprah distinct from mainstream celebrities is the entwining of the person and the product of Oprah. In each chapter, of Oprah: The Gospel of an Icon, Lofton compares materials from Oprah's many productions and religious culture. Lofton specifically focuses on the prosperity gospel as practiced by many churches and preached by Oprah, who gives gifts and fills pages of her magazine with products intended for a better life. Lofton also discusses celebrity culture and contemporary evangelism and how the brand Oprah thrives on the inseparable nature of religion and American capitalism
...She has donated millions of dollars to various charities and organizations, with most of her money going to three foundations: The Angel Network, The Oprah Winfrey Foundation, and The Oprah Winfrey Operating Foundation.”(Oprah: Charity Work & Causes). Her generosity helped her be the quintessential American.

Major historical changes have often been affected by civil disobedience, there have always been groups of people who have had a lesser say in the decisions taken by the government. If not no say at all. Both Sophie Scholl and Aung San Suu Kyi were women who stood up for their beliefs in a non violent way and suffered great consequences for it. They fought hard for what they believed was right and gave up personal gain for the greater good. Although, what did they really achieve? Did they manage to achieve anything at all? If so what? How? In this essay all of these questions will be answered.
This essay I have decided to write about Oprah Winfrey. This is because Oprah had many serious life events. These life events must have implemented her key development stages or the other.
Whitney Houston to most was a very amazing and talented person who allowed life and its mishaps break her down. As a young girl she grew up in the church where she felt like it was a sign from God that she should be singing. Freud believes that religion is an illusion, an attempt to gain control over the external world. In his eyes saying that anything is a sign from God depends on how you vision life. There were times in her life where she would produce more music just to get thru the thing that she would be going through. She would use her music as a defense mechanism to get away from all of the abuse, problems with her marriage, neglect, and drugs. Defense mechanisms are ways to distort reality to reduce anxiety: Rationalization is giving a positive reason to a stressor and regression is withdrawing from reality and going to pastime.
Oprah has been known as “one of America’s top 50 most generous philanthropist” as she continues to contribute ten percent of her income ($385 million in 2008) to her favorite charities, related to education, youths, and literature. She had donated millions to Tennessee State University which is her alma mater as part of the scholarship funds, The United Negro Fund, to encourage young black Americans to pursue their dreams, and the Harold Washington Library, which is a program for economically disadvantaged Chicago-area young girls.
Oprah Winfrey is an inspiration to many all around the world. She did not have a very good home life up until the age of 14. She was abused as a child and did not see her mother very often because she was a housemaid who was gone almost every day all day. Vernon Winfrey, Oprah’s father, was a big service in her life when it came to keeping her in a nonviolent manner. Oprah also had her career going for her when she became Miss Black Tennessee at age 17. When Oprah became Miss Black Tennessee she was offered a radio broadcasting job and a full scholarship to Tennessee. Oprah had quite a few talk shows yet she made the most money off her own show, The Oprah Winfrey Show, and now has her individual network called The Oprah Winfrey Network. Oprah Winfrey’s influential style greatly impacted those who came after her in the entertainment industry.
Sandra Oh is an American actress. She became famous from the hit TV show Grey's Anatomy. She played the role Christina Yang. She was one of the interns on the show. She is Canadian, but her parents are Korean. So, it makes her Canadian but she still has Korean in her. Sandra Oh is great at what she does.
During her childhood years living with her mother, Oprah had very little money and life was difficult. She wants to help as many children as possible grow up in a sound, safe, and educational environment. Oprah has changed the world with all of her organizations and charity efforts. Oprah Winfrey has helped thousands of children attend school with her scholarships that she has funded. Many of these children would never go to school or continue their college career without her amazing efforts of providing financial support to these children. Oprah also helped build homes for families through her efforts with Habitat for Humanity and her donations after Hurricane Katrina helped families start their lives over again after the mass destruction of the hurricane by providing the financial support to rebuild many communities and neighborhoods(“Oprah Winfrey”). When researching Oprah Winfrey, I now realize why she is such an incredible person. The world is a better place because of Oprah Winfrey. This is another example of a person that has worked very hard to achieve her goals in life. Oprah strived for her dreams of being able to give back to the community and world. Oprah came from nothing, built an empire and became one of the most influential people in the world. While building an empire, Oprah has influenced millions of people achieve a better way of live. Oprah has positively
However, Aung San Suu Kyi is, just as her father was, a national hero and a symbol of democracy and peace. Her many impressive achievements have lead to her people holding her in a high-esteem. She represents the breaking away from oppression. The people of Myanmar were oppressed under British rule and under the horrible government that formed after the British left. In the eyes of the people, she can do no wrong. For this reason, if she states that the attacks on the Rohingya people are a way of stopping terrorist attacks and Muslim militants, which according to the BBC, she has, the people will believe it. Also, even if Western countries were to speak out against the killings, to the people of Myanmar, it could very much seem as though they were trying to bully Aung San Suu Kyi out of her position. The mistrust between the West and Myanmar that was created during British occupation has created a gap in communication, leaving the people in Myanmar with distorted visions of the world around them and preventing them from being able to look critically at the actions of their government. This made me wonder whether or not any people native to Myanmar were speaking out against Aung San Suu Kyi and her defense of the genocide and whether or not any of the racist views of the people in Myanmar today came from their British
Although Oprah has experienced excruciating periods of her life, she still has proved that anyone can make a difference no matter what his/her background may be. Oprah is living proof that anything is possible, and dreams do come true. Oprah has proved to people everywhere that true joy in life comes from giving to those who are in need. “I define Joy as a sustained sense of well-being and internal piece – a connection to what matters” (Oprah Winfrey).
One of the most powerful women in the world is Oprah Gail Winfrey. Oprah is one of the richest businesswomen in the world, but she wasn’t always rich and successful. She had a very tough life growing up and didn’t have much money. She has always been a hard worker, and she had a passion for hosting and acting. Oprah is very good at what she does and that’s how she raised to the top of being one of the most influential women in the media.
