In wrapping up this section allow me to quote the very words of the most successful woman in the world herself Oprah Whimphrey from p188 same Issue as above. “That’s way my number one spiritual practice is trying to live in the present moment… to resist projecting into the future, or lamenting past mistakes…to feel the real power of now. That, my friends, is the secret to an inspired life. If everybody remembered to live this way (as children do when they first arrive; it’s what we hardened souls call innocence), we’d transform the planet. Playing, laughing, feeling joy. My favorite Bible verse, which I have loved since I was an 8-year-old girl, is Psalm 37:4. “Delight thyself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart”. …show more content…
It’s my dream to encourage other people to connect the dots of spirituality for them-selves, to recognize the fullness of being and to live that fullness. That is where all our potential lies, and getting people to see it is what I was created for. That’s the reason when I see those interested to share with others their spiritual vision, wisdom and experience, I am at my happiest and most fulfilled moments. What powerful and inspiring words from a celebrity emanated by almost everyone. Who doesn’t want to be like Oprah? If she in her caliber is God fearing and worshiping, with all the wealth she has attained, who are we not to like wise reverence God Almighty? Let us thoroughly examine ourselves and take a great lesson from these anointed words of wisdom. It is apparent that all the other great six persons who have contributed their well thought and lived experience of life are as humane as we all are, but they have chosen to rise above situations and circumstances even if it might have nothing to do with religion. If you purpose in your heart to do well, it will surely come to pass, though a higher supernatural power further energizes us to be even better persons than we initially had anticipated, …show more content…
They have obviously gone through the road of successes and challenges themselves to the effect that listening to their life stories pays-off. It is to our benefit to take hid to the wisdom of those who went ahead of us in life. The fact is most do not want us to repeat the mistakes or pit-falls they entered into, but would rather share information so we do things differently. Considering the new generations and the westernization of almost everything, the wisdom of persons who are elderly is seen as old fashioned and not relevant to this day and age. Especially young people, you hear them say, ‘What can these old people tell us, we know it all’. King Solomon asked of wisdom from God and he got it all. If we are the few blessed ones who have surviving elderly members of our families, generations and clan, we better make a drastic positive choice to hear them, listen attentively to their stories and effectively process as well as packaging it for our own progress in life. By so doing, we can never grow out of flourishing ideas, but instead we will wax strong in wisdom and understanding. This is not only applicable to persons that are young, but to every other age group, middle or whatever. You can be a big, huge and handsome men in stature, but without wisdom and knowledge you will most unlikely not earn the respect as
The definition of a renaissance man or woman is a person who is well educated and sophisticated and who has a talent and knowledge of many different fields of study. Oprah is a show host, actress, philanthropist, and producer. I believe that Oprah Winfrey is our modern day Renaissance woman.
Oprah is one of the most well known and revered celebrities worldwide. What make Oprah distinct from mainstream celebrities is the entwining of the person and the product of Oprah. In each chapter, of Oprah: The Gospel of an Icon, Lofton compares materials from Oprah's many productions and religious culture. Lofton specifically focuses on the prosperity gospel as practiced by many churches and preached by Oprah, who gives gifts and fills pages of her magazine with products intended for a better life. Lofton also discusses celebrity culture and contemporary evangelism and how the brand Oprah thrives on the inseparable nature of religion and American capitalism
The term Renaissance Man or Renaissance Individual refers to a person that is skilled in many talents and/or has extensive knowledge. Through the centuries, there have been many people who have fit this description. People like Leonardo da Vinci, Einstein and Galileo Galilei.
“If youth but had the knowledge and old age the strength,” (Proverb). Remember sitting on the porch swing with grandpa and listening to him rant and rave about what seemed utterly irrelevant? What about the time that you got backhanded for rolling your eyes at crazy Mrs. Roberts when she would preach ‘life lessons’ at you? However, with age, it has become more and more apparent that maybe Mrs. Roberts wasn’t that far off from what is really the problems most fail to see. In today’s generation, the elderly have often been put on the back burner when they shouldn’t be. Although at times it might seem like the young are utterly invincible, the harsh truth is that there is so much knowledge we are yet to possess, residing within our elders. In Rudolfo Anaya’s A Celebration of Grandfathers, we see just how important Grandpa’s extraneous rants actually were.
Younger people have tended to look towards the elderly for wisdom and guidance since the beginning of recorded history and beyond. Students to teachers, children to parents, ordinary people to royalty and politicians – generally those who have lived longer are not only believed, but expected to have garnered more knowledge in their longer lives. Abraham Lincoln once said, “I do not think much of a man who is not wiser today than he was yesterday. Also, in 2008 the Australian newspaper published an article detailing a study undertaken by the University of Aarhus in Denmark, which disproved the theory that the mind is at its peak in the late teens to mid-twenties. But all this is not to say that older people should not sometimes listen to and heed advice from younger people.
“In 1998 Oprah Winfrey was listed one of the 100 most influential people of the 20th century by the editors of Time magazine” (“Winfrey, Oprah”). Oprah Gail Winfrey was born to Vernita Lee and Vernon Winfrey on January 29, 1954. Currently, Oprah is a successful chairwoman and CEO of The Oprah Winfrey Network: OWN since 2011.
In today’s society “failure” is dreaded by most people. In 2013 Oprah Winfrey deliver “The Harvard Commencement Speech” and in 2008 she spoke “The Stanford Commencement Speech,” which both spoke about overcoming failure. Throughout these speeches, the audience learns that failure is something everyone will experience. Winfrey teaches readers that failure may hurt, but failure helps everyone learn from their mistakes and allows them to become a better person. Winfrey tells readers about a time when she failed and instead of feeling sorry for herself, she allowed herself to exceed expectations and change her failure into something spectacular. Oprah Winfrey is an effective speaker because she uses rhetorical devices and
I agree with the quote. In my opinion, a leader is someone who can listen, without judgement and understand. A leader is someone who can inspire a change and who can empower that change to sustain itself. And, I believe that Oprah Winfrey is the one person who can justify the quote perfectly.

In life, some people may feel the need to lean on the shoulders of others, however in some cases where one is scared, the guidance of others may become ones dependence on them. This can have both positive and negative effects, depending on the circumstance of those involved. In the case of William Shakespeare’s Hamlet, Ophelia becomes more or less dependent on the protection of the men in her family. This eventually drives her to madness upon Polonius’s death. Through examining how Ophelia’s dependence adapts to the changes in the play, it can be seen that Ophelia is dependent on the men in her life, and when they are removed from her as per the events of the play, she cannot adapt to guide herself.

This scripture made me realize that one day I will become of age. Therefore, the wisdom and knowledge of the elderly is a pathway for the younger group, and for the future generations to appreciate. Deuteronomy 32:7, Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations: Ask thy father, and He will show you, thy elders, and they will tell you. Therefore, generations have been entrusted with different lessons based upon the time they have lived, and there is much to be learned from those that have gone before us.
Oprah Winfrey is a role model to thousands of people out there. She has made people understand the purpose of life and how to live it in a way that you are happy. She wants people to help and care for unprivileged people. Oprah thinks that education is a right and not a privilege. She wants everybody to have a good education no matter who they are. Oprah has an amazing story. She went through so many failures in her life but yet still carried on. She had such a tough childhood that actually mad her stronger as a person, that shows us today that just because you had rough parts in life where you didn’t want to carry on you can still get through it and get to where you want to be. Failure determs the level of success you are on and that’s what
Oprah Winfrey: An inspirational role model. Many people find someone in his/her life to look up to, a role model. There are many different kinds of role models; they can be singers, public speakers, a parent, or even a friend. Role models are not determined by certain criteria.
