Online Teaching – Now and the Future
Online teaching is defined as any educational activity that requires a student to complete some learning or assessment activity via a personal computer and a connection to a network (Murdoch University Academic Council 1999). This network connection is usually to the Internet (Demirdjian 2002). It is a seen by the Murdoch University Academic Council as a teaching and learning technology, not a method of study (2002), but this depends on how it is to be used and by whom. For example, distance education student using online teaching would be more inclined to see it as a study method than a QUT student who uses online teaching to download and print lecture notes to attend a lecture on campus.
The world’s universities make extensive use of online teaching. It is being used to the extent that some predict that in a few decades university campuses will be a thing of the past and that university courses will be done almost completely online (Demirdjian 2002). Online teaching at QUT mainly involves the use of e-mail for communication between students and teachers and the placement of lecture materials on the Internet OLT site for download and printing by students. Some subjects make use of an online discussion forum and also use a course materials database to contain readings and other materials for students to use.
The benefits that this technology offers to students at university can be seen as coming under three broad areas – geographical, temporal and financial (Demirdjian 2002). The geographical benefits are that students can undertake a course of study from anywhere in the country and indeed the world. There are students undertaking QUT courses from other countries such as China and...

Their military power was diminished and became weak due to lack of people enlisting. Their political structure never worked and there was always corruption present. And the economic downfall was a crushing blow to the empire. And although christianity and the loss of the Roman values were a defining factor in the fall of Rome it can’t be blamed as much as the military, political and economic
In his article, “Can You Be Education from a Distance?”, James Barszcz effectively weighs the pros and cons of online education compared to the traditional method, while effectively supporting his position with factual information and statistics. While distance education proves to be convenient for students, Barszcz asserts that it eliminates valuable experiences necessary in order to get the most out of the material being learned.
The Roman Empire was strong for a time. It was founded on geography, family values, military strength, and wise leadership. It flourished because of social, economic, political, military and religious strengths. However, when the very things that make a civilization flourish start to decline, the civilization will also lead to a downfall.
The Chinese mothers, so concentrated on the cultures of their own, don't want to realize what is going on around them. They don't want to accept the fact that their daughters are growing up in a culture so different from their own. Lindo Jong, says to her daughter, Waverly- "I once sacrificed my life to keep my parents' promise. This means nothing to you because to you, promises mean nothing. A daughter can promise to come to dinner, but if she has a headache, a traffic jam, if she wants to watch a favorite movie on T.V., she no longer has a promise."(Tan 42) Ying Ying St.Clair remarks- "...because I remained quiet for so long, now my daughter does not hear me. She sits by her fancy swimming pool and hears only her Sony Walkman, her cordless phone, her big, important husband asking her why they have charcoal and no lighter fluid."(Tan 64)
For a long period of time, Rome seemed like an unstoppable empire. It conquered the majority of the land surrounding it, including Greece, Turkey, Iraq, and many of its other neighboring countries. It seemed as though Rome would conquer the entire world, as it was the center of it, until it began to decline in 476 C.E. The very aspects that made it so successful were the ones that caused its collapse. Various political, religious, and economic reasons caused its downfall. The fact that the entire economy of Rome collapsed and money became worthless was a major reason for the empire’s collapse. In addition, the loss of a common religion and lack of efficient ruling in relation to its vast territory affected the empire. The Roman Empire did not become so successful in a short period of time, and so its decline did not just happen overnight. Over several years all of these different aspects together caused the fall of the Roman Empire.

According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, “In 2010, there were approximately 189,000 emergency rooms visits by persons under age 21 for injuries and other conditions linked to alcohol.” (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 1) This is an issue that clearly needs to be solved. In the United States, the current legal drinking age is 21. Many states lowered the drinking age to 18 after the voting age was lowered to 18 but Mothers Against Drunk Driving helped to raise the drinking age back to 21 by the 1990’s. Lowering the legal drinking age to 18 once again is a controversial issue that has many pros and cons. Many argue that lowering the drinking age encourages dangerous behaviors and negatively affects one’s health but
Here are some facts about how Rome fell. Tribes of fierce Germanic warriors began attacking Rome’s northern borders. The persians invaded the east. For 200 years the Romans defended themselves against these invasions. People that lived near the northern border started to abandon their land. The Germanic farmers started the farm land. These people ignored Roman leaders. Disease swept through the empire and killed many people. The government was forced to increase taxes to pay for the defense of the empire. The Huns were the source of the raids on Roman land and they were from Central Asia. The Goths(Visigoths and Ostrogoths) were victims of the Huns. These groups fled to Roman territory to escape. The Romans reaction to the Goths entering their

Lots of great leaders who commanded their armies wisely and led them to the glory appeared on the stage of history, but the ones who won the battles and beat the giants without using armies with weapons were very rare. As one of the most inspiring leaders in history, Mahatma Gandhi achieved this by ending the British rule in India by means of non-violence as well as his effective leadership. A better understanding of his extraordinary standard of leadership can be achieved through an analysis of leadership theories and their connection with Gandhi. Vision, as one of the leadership theories that is discussed in the article “What is leadership?” of Fred Manske, is a prerequisite for a leader as it gives purpose and responsibility to both leaders and followers. S.A. Kirkpatrick and E.A. Locke point out the special traits leaders need to have in “Leadership: Do Traits Matter?”: persistence to follow through with the program and integrity to gain the trust of their followers. Moreover, Hughes, Ginnet and Curphy believe that values influence the choices made by leaders significantly, and in “Leadership and Values”, they observe that values of leaders also affect their relationship with their followers. Self-sacrifice is one of the important aspects of leadership, as explained in "Leader Self-Sacrifice And Leadership Effectiveness: The Moderating Role Of Leader Prototypicality." by Barbara and Daan van Knippenberg. Sydney Hook, in “The Eventful Man and the Event-Making Man”, points out that a great leader has the capacity to change history. Gandhi demonstrated all of these attributes. In “Ears and Mouth Open”, Louis Fischer explains that Gandhi’s vision was a new, free India. Nevertheless,...

One of Abraham Lincoln’s ability for being a great leader was to be aware of his own weakness. One of his weaknesses was giving people too many chances. In fact, George McClellan, Commander in Chief of the Union Army, refused to follow orders about the war effort. Eventually, Abraham Lincoln created a deadline and removed McClellan from the position. Abraham Lincoln is also recognized as, “Honest Abe.” For example, “As a young man, Abraham Lincoln worked as a general store clerk. One evening he was counting the money in the drawers after closing and found that he was a few cents over what should have been in the drawer. When he realized that he had accidentally shortchanged a customer earlier that day, Lincoln walked a long distance to return the money to the customer.” He was a genuine leader. He was also equitable and conscientious. Abraham Lincoln is an exemplification of what a great leader possesses. He had the motivation to create his honesty.
Online education is a booming trend in the education world. It is something different than the traditional classroom. It is allowing student around the world the opportunity to get an education. Online education allows student to have a more proficient and cheaper way of learning. Having multiple ways to give a student an education allows all learning types to find their own way of learning. Online courses soon will prevail over the traditional high school and college education. Online Universities will create classes sponsored by companies. These companies will direct the universities on the materials of the course. The company will then offer those who pass the course a job. This will created a skilled worked specifically for a position in a company. Teachers will take a backseat in these courses. Teachers will offer one-on-one help and help people work collaboratively. These teachers will be more of a guide then a true classroom teacher.
Some students within society need to have online learning to complete college degrees due to their lifestyles. While it is good to have online learning as an option if one chooses, it should not be the only option available to some students. Some may argue that online education is not creating discrimination within the educational environment. Furthermore, some may suggest that online learning is benefiting our students in society. There has been a breakthrough in time and geographical limitations of education via online courses (Ho, 2009).
