Relationships are complicated. There are many factors that go into a stable relationship. Meeting, maintaining and committing to a relationship with another person is stressful but if both parties put in the time and effort, the outcome can be miraculous. In the past decade, since the arrival of technology and the online world, the Internet has tried to make dating easier and more efficient by creating dating websites. Dating websites claim that they can help people find their soul mate through online profiles and questionnaires. Even though online dating can seem like an easy alternative to in-person dating, relationships developed online will not last due to a misconception of compatibility, developing of mal behaviours and an easy way out into a new …show more content…
First, online dating websites match people based on how similar their profiles are. Compatibility between two people to create a lasting relationship is not about how much they are similar. It is about how much they are different and what can be brought to the table. Also, online relationships can be a precursor to toxic behaviours such as shallowness and being judgemental. Through this, relationships will not develop properly. As well, online dating makes it easier to end a relationship, move on to the next one and skip the learning process of breaking up with someone. Obviously, face-to-face dating is much more harder than the click of a button from online dating but the rewards are much more greater and will last much more longer. There is no such thing as a perfect relationship, but if time is taken to develop the proper connection between two people, then the love will last and bring joy to the
...Five percent of Americans who are in a marriage or a committed relationship say they met their significant other online” (2). The reality of how relationships are started is through the traditional methods of meeting people offline. People like to meet others through introductions and referrals because it provides a sense of security. Due to the direction that society is headed, we are seeing more and more technological advances. These new advances are giving people the freedom to meet and integrate with others in the society in a safe fashion. However, we know that technology is not one-hundred percent safe proof. Because technology is not completely safe and is not always accurate individuals must use common sense to determine when a situation is not being used properly. Online dating sites through the technological advances are getting lots of recognition.
Many of my opponent claims that online dating can avoid trifling things in the real life and makes it not only easier but also happier to communicate. However, in the real life, online dating tends to lead more break-ups. According to a research, “The separation and divorce rates for folks who had paired up online was much higher than their offline compatriots, and more online-founded relationships tended to end within a year after the survey.” (Web). The Lack of face-to-face meeting will cause potential instability in a relationship. Lovers rely on chatting online and sharing moment through the internet to maintain the emotion, which is really fragile. This ways of loving can never take the place of dating in the real life. People experience interested life together and all these memories will accumulate as time goes by which is the necessary fundamental of a firm relationship. In addition, the social networking has created a tremendous amount of opportunity for people to create love relationships by matching suited ones. It is because that people know the number of members of the opposite sex is abundant so that many people will hold a view that there is no need for them to treasure the matched person so much. If you break up with someone online, you can just reactivate your profile then you may have a date the very next day, quickly and easily. This is the huge and dangerous flaw in online dating for some people will abuse this, becoming players in love and being overly picky. Thus, online dating is usually weak and transitory, making it difficult for us to work on one
Usually it is the ease of connecting to someone virtually that makes online dating an easier option for the hopeful and; "Oftentimes, people who have signed up to dating sites have tired of the more orthodox ways of meeting someone. Some are battle-weary; some are cynical; some are vulnerable or heartbroken.... It's an explosive combination that often means that folks are prone to believing anything they are told." (Sweeney, 2014) Figures show that many people fall into online traps with fake profiles, while trying to find a significant other online. According to Smith and Duggan, "Half of online daters have felt that someone else seriously misrepresented themselves in their profile."
(2012), online dating has more advantages as compared to traditional dating. It gives access to people who have small social circles to meet more people who have the potential to become partners. Communication online, computer mediated communication (CMC) gives prior understanding among people before face- to face communication takes place. This mechanism of communication can be used differently across the online dating landscape (Finkel et al., 2012). Messaging systems such as email, sending emoji online and live interactions via webcams are a few examples of such communication. Matching facilities will tend to eliminate people who are possible to be a poor relationship partner. Rose (2013) stated that online dating is a good medium for shy people to know another person. Plus, potential matches are many so that the best selection of mate can be made through online dating. Different preference of mate can be selected such as non- smoker, non- drinker and same interest in sports. Online dating saves time for people who are so busy that they can socialise and date in the Internet. Safety is one of the great benefits of online dating as users are not risking themselves out of home to a club or bar to meet people (Rose, 2013). If there are people starting harassing online, users can straight away block them and report them to the website without facing a possible danger in real
(Brainz) Internet relationships are typically used to identify one self. An individual will tend to find self worth in internet relationships, because someone is interested in them without seeing them face to face. Bonds are formed through commonality, emotions, and common worldview. While all of these are great things, the number one reason for internet dating is for sexual gratification. (Brainz)
With technology advances steadily in today’s society, individuals steadily advance too. One of these aspects includes dating. Individuals in today’s society hope to find companionship through online dating websites so that someday some online daters might be able to find a companion. With websites like eHarmony, Match, Christian Mingle, OkCupid, Black People Meet, and JDate, finding the one seems to be easier and more convenient than ever. Most of these websites even display statistics showing that one out of five relationships start online. The questions that should be asked, is this a better and safer option than looking for the one in person? Individuals tend to ignore the possible risks involving online dating. They are willing to release personal information from pictures of oneself, to locations of where they work, or live just for the possibility of finding a companion. The online users have to ask themselves: is the risk worth it in the end, or does the benefit outweighs the cost? When searching for a companionship through online dating websites, negative aspects such as profiles, self-presentation, self-disclosure, predators and sexual mishaps, may outweigh the positive aspects and cause more problems and strife then actual good.
Dating nowadays has evolved into something similar to a math equation. Technology has changed society and culture so much in the 21st century that something which did not seem normal probably 30 years ago seems mundane now: meeting people via computer. In order to find the most compatible person, suddenly people are not able to find “the one” and need the help of a computer to tell them who their personality matches with, causing many people to not develop proper social skills along with confidence. People have different relationship goals which they wish to achieve, be it through either traditional or online dating. Although traditional and online dating have many similarities, at the same time they are very different when it comes to the
There are great people that meet online and create a future in happiness. What would happen if you met the person you “fell in love” with and they are not who you imagined them to be. That is the one terrifying thing about online dating, you never know who is on the other side of the screen unless you find a way to meet them. When people start their online dating accounts 30% of females have a friend help them create their profile to make them look top- notch quality to attract the person they want. This is very beneficial on the behalf of the person behind the dating profile but would the profile matter?
Well psychologists state that people often become too reclusive after a terrible divorce or break up and often end up in some sort of pre-depression stage. They can go on food binges, alcohol binges, or just feel terrible about themselves. So, it is really important to get involved with life right away, and one of the best ways is through online dating, because you can feel connected to the world and yet still have the time to yourself to get over the hurt in your

I know only a few people that would rather meet someone in person rather than online. With online dating, there are so many chances for people to lie about who they are or just little things about themselves. “Internet dating can be traced back to the mid-1960’s” (Hardey, 572). We never hear about how bad dating was back then, it seems like it has just recently changed.
Online dating is a very popular method people use to meet a new person that could eventually be their significant other. It is shown that 52.4% of males use dating websites and 47.6% of females use them. In the last year, 17% of these people have gotten married to someone they met on an online dating site (Statistic Brain). There are many pros of online dating but, there are also many cons such as false website information, catfishes, and criminals
