There are many institutes all around the world who has a well-known name and are credible for one seeking a degree whether it is in the classroom or online. Sometimes, taking an online course is more convenient for those who do not have the time nor finance to obtain a degree in the classroom. Recent research has shown that the people who are seeking a degree, is growing tremendously. Other research has shown that there are diploma mills in the world who are trying to help others cheat their way through online classes, and the ability to obtain online degrees. With that being said, obtaining an online degree through an online program is becoming more common yet more scandalous every second.
Online degree programs have not been around that

Some may not be able to go to a community college or university right after high school because of several reasons. It is hard to balance school and work all at the same time. If someone needs to have a full-time job, going to school full-time would be difficult for them. Also, some may have family obligations. A single parent who wants to further his or her education does not have the time of day to attend college full-time. Although these are reasons to go to school online, another reason would be that an individual dropped out of college; yet, wants another shot at it. Going to school online does not cost as much as sitting in a classroom. If it does not work out for them this time, a great amount of money will not have been wasted. Even better than school online not working out, not cost so much, the individual has another chance to do what they really wanted to do in life. Being able to achieve goals and complete school is …show more content…
With the online degree programs today, there are many non-credible “institutes.” These scandals are being highlighted by the minute. If one seeks a diploma or other higher-ranking degree, they could illegally purchase the desired degree from a diploma mill. Some who apply for jobs will purchase an illegal document of completion from a diploma mill, and risks getting caught because of the Department of Homeland Security. People who seek to obtain a fraudulent degree, are often the type of people who would cheat their way through life. Degrees are for those who work hard for what they want, not cheat their way to what they want. It is more effective to work hard than cheat
First of all, many high school graduates cannot handle college. Isabel V. Sawhill and Stephanie Owen describe college as a place, “one can obtain a traditional four-year bachelor’s degree”. The work load outside of the classroom could be compared to working a full time job. For example, if a student is enrolled in four college courses and is in class a minimum of four hours the student should spend at least four to six hours of studying. This may be extremely agitating and stressful to a student that is not good at studying. The new college student may realize that the schoolwork is too much for him to handle and instead drop out. In Pharinet’s blog post, Is College for Everyone? He states that “…it is estimated that in the U.S., approximately 50% of students who begin college never graduate. There exist students who are not yet ready for the academic and financial challenges of college. There exist students who do not have the desire for college or learning.” This statement is important because if 50% of students that begin college never gradua...
Whether it’s because they want to have a better life, be able to get away, or just because it is expected of them to go even though they may not want to go. Leaving “the nest” is not an easy thing to do, some students have a harder time than others to adjust to living on their own or just living away from their parents and siblings. If the student can’t handle the separation and it’s too difficult for them, they always have the different options like online school or simply attending their local community college and be able to stay at home while getting their associates degree. Eventually they will leave home and start a life of their own, college can be a great start for
For many people, money is the main reason for not going to a university. Being that people do not want to go into debt, students usually choose community college. Sometimes the cost of a university is still too much even with a scholarship, grant, or any other
Did you know from an early age if you would be attending college? Whether you thought so or not does not change the fact that many young adults do not get the opportunity to attend college. This is an unfortunate case as more and more jobs today require more than a simple high school diploma. The growing pay gap between someone with a high school diploma and a bachelor’s degree can lead us to wonder why everyone isn’t going to college. Well not everyone has the same opportunities as one another. Many factors might restrict some opportunities due to Socioeconomic Status, how “middle-class” a student is, the background of the parents and the growing cost to attend college. Different viewpoints will be discussed and disputed for
“The rate at which enrollments for online classes and education programs is expanding much faster in both the developed and developing worlds than at traditional universities,” claims Reed Karaim. He also states that “Online courses offer the benefits of greater convenience and also a lower total cost. (Karaim, “Expanding Higher Education”). With more online courses being offered on sites such as Udemy and Lynda as well as top universities such as Harvard and MIT, there is less incentive for students to seek education from universities
Most of the time, a student cannot learn at their own pace of the subject because the teacher has a schedule and other students so that student can easily fall behind or not feel as if they are learning. Also, if a student misses a class due to an illness or some other sort of reason they will get behind in classes, while with online class the student can still work while sick or the class will not move on without them. Some schools do not offer some classes that students wish to take. For example, some schools may not present a language class that the pupil wishes to take but online they have a better chance of being able to take that
There is good reason for the growth in online learning in college environments. Student populations have diversified since the introduction of the personal computer and internet (O’Malley and McCraw). Students with geographic, job, or other constraints are now able to benefit from a college education because advances in technology have enabled learning for those for whom higher education was previously not within the realm of possibility.
...nditions. Students taking online classes might find it easier to attend family gatherings, traveling, and attended to personal needs. An online class allows the students to work on their own time, to whereas the traditional classes they have to stick with a schedule.
Some people are not mentally ready to go to college. Not everyone wants to go to college. Some people want to have a break and think their future out. It might sound silly but College cares people. Thinking about college and knowing you’re heading into the big world is pretty scary. You won’t believe how many students are ready to move on. Thinking about moving on to college really freaks people out like me. After high school I don’t plan on going to college I want to take A couple months off. College is important to
There are some students who find it easier to work in internet classrooms and some others that find it easier to stay with traditional classrooms. I think someone may choose internet classrooms if they have difficulty interacting with teachers and other students. Some people do not like being in the classroom because they do not feel at ease around certain people especially those who treat others with disrespect. It is hard for a student to concentrate and learn a lesson when they have that kind of pressure.
Many students say online courses are convenient. Online courses allow students to plan according to their schedule, and the time and location that best works for them. Although online education may seem more “easier,” students should look at the cons of online education. In the feature article "Face-Face or Online Instruction? Face-Face is Better," the author, Arleen R. Bejerano, claims online courses take the students away from the college community and confines them to their home. The students no longer have interaction with the college community, which may cause them to miss out on some important opportunities. This may affect their possibility of succeeding to achieve a degree. The author suggests some students may become discouraged from learning independently, from facing challenges in academics, and fall behind or
The opportunity to obtain a degree through an online setting has provided some liberation to students who then take advantage of that opportunity. The problem, however, lies in employment upon successful completion of an online program. Having an online degree possibly means some bumps down the road of employment, being that the degree could perhaps be ranked lower, as opposed to the traditional degree. Studies show that employers are more prone to hire someone with a traditional degree versus an online degree. In the Chronicle of Online Education, Carnevale states that, “The reviews of individuals who assess qualified candidates for particular positions demonstrate an inclination against online degrees, although these programs are becoming more readily accessible through universities on the web (Carnevale 2007)”. It is clear that even with the qualifications that one may possess from online education, employers still remain inclined. Some employers may feel that the degrees can’t correlate with one another and that one receives a better understanding of the coursework at traditional colleges. In the article, Employer’s Perspective of Online Education, Linardopoulos finds apprehensions regarding employer’s views of online learning. He says, “Online learning does not provide adequate
As the economy has changed in the last ten years so has the schools budgets and they are looking for ways to keep costs down. There is much evidence that distance education can be more cost effective than traditional education. Everyone can save a substantial amount of money by going with an online education because schools would not need facilities and equipment. Schools would also save money by not needing to provide services and programs to students. Students would save by not needing to drive to and from school, buy school supplies, and they can earn a degree in half the time than a traditional school setting.
Some students within society need to have online learning to complete college degrees due to their lifestyles. While it
Those who disagree with me think that online learning allows a student to learn at their own pace. Students are able to take the time to understand and figure out problems with the resources that are provided. The convenience of learning in an environment that is conducive to that particular students learning is provided by the student. If the student feels comfortable they are more apt
