The short story I have read is about how this young girl, her sister and her uncle would go out with the horses and try to find the cattle that may have headed to Gallup and if not then up to Ch'ooshgai Mountains. By that time, it’s noon and they get hungry so they all get out the spam and potatoes that their grandma has packed and later initial their names on the water tank and head back home. Getting closer to the home they stop by at a seven-to-eleven store to get cold sodas and a candy bar. Next day, comes and Vida and her sister have a school which is a dormitory like they had back in the day when they took any age child to the dorms so they didn’t learn their Navajo language anymore. Vida goes to school and talks about how the other girls call her names and the teachers force her to do things for her disciplinary acts. Vida and her sister, Viv, meet up that night but don’t wanna go back inside yet because they know who they’re going to see and what they’re going to be doing for their punishment of walking in past 10. Walking across campus they see some cowboys and they ask if the girls want to hang out with them this time since Viv and Vida always ignore them. All in the car they drive around until the girls want to get out but don't let them until she says “we are government property and you could get into trouble”, so of course they get back to the dorm. …show more content…

She asked what they had for dinner and made fun of it because of what the staff made or how they cooked

She takes a job in a white lady named Ms. Cullinan’s home as a maid, who calls her Mary for her own convenience and lack of respect. This enrages Maya and in order to get away she smashes the finest china to get her fired. At her eighth-grade graduation, a white man comes to speak in front of everyone and he states that black students can only become athletes or servants which makes Maya furious. Later, when Maya develops a nasty toothache, Momma decides to take her to a white dentist who refuses to work on her. Momma claims that she lent him money during the Great Depression so he owes her a favor but he says he’d rather stick his hands in a dogs’ mouth. Lastly, one day while Bailey is walking home he sees a dead black man rotting in a river and a white man present at the scene says he will put both the dead man and Bailey in his truck. On the first week at Grandma’s, a man named Shotgun Cheatman died. Everyone in the town went to the funeral because he was the well known assistant to the Mayor. The funeral was held in Grandma’s house and a creepy thing happened that night when Tom the cat crawled inside the casket. The next day, Joey, Mary Alice and Grandma left the house and walked across fields of tall grass and “cow pies aplenty” to Salt Creek to go fishing. They found an old wooden boat and Grandma rowed the boat out into the creek. While on their fishing adventure, they encountered a cottonmouth snake that fell into the boat and a party of drunken men on land dancing in their underwear.

Southern family preparing to go on what seems to be a typical vacation. The story is humorous at first because the reader is unaware of how the story will end. The tone changes dramatically from amusing to frightening and plays an important part in making the story effective.
Arriving at Lacey’s house I walk to the backdoor letting myself into the house. Lacey was putting on tanning lotion in the kitchen, “Lacey,” I called to her, “my mom wants me to pick up snacks for the beach, do you want to go into town with me?”, “Sure,” she replied, “do you mind if my cousin comes with us?”, “Of course I don’t mind,“ I answered, “but we have to get moving, my dad only left me the car to use ‘til noon.”
In the Story of An Hour, Mrs. Mallard seemed to me like an old misunderstood woman and as we are told in the very first line, afflicted with a heart trouble. I was surprised later, when it said that she was young. I think that Chopin is showing us a social situation of the times with the woman as a prisoner of her husband. Marriage was not always about mutual love between two people and during that time Chopin was writing, which was during 1804-1904, this was often the case. Marriage was as much about monetary comfort, social status as it was about possible love. There are no children mentioned in the story, which makes me wonder if there was a sexual relationship between the Mallards.

glory days. i look back at old pictures of me and ask myself what happened to that girl. the girl who was always laughing and was always so happy. the girl who did not know that war wasn't just a card game, and race issues weren't just about who ran the farthest, when getting high meant a swing on the playground and my dads shoulders were the safest place on earth, the worst pain you would ever feel was when u skinned your knees on the sidewalk, and goodbyes only meant until tomorrow, and i thought growing up would be fun. i cant remember the last time i was as happy as i was when i was five years old and chasing butterflies in my front lawn in the house i grew up in . when me and my sister would take baths together and my mom would braid my
It was one of those lovely spring days in May. With all those spring mornings that would be coming his way Michael would bear witness to many of them. But there was a reason why he specifically chose this day, for he hid away a memory in his subconscious. Saturday.....yes, it was a Saturday. His mother would not have asked him for his help unless it had been a Saturday. Michael had been coming up the stairs when she summoned him.
“Ding dong”. Anna stares at her computer and ignores the doorbell that just rang. The summer night breezes briskly whorls through the neighborhood of Mount Laurel. She was too obsessed with her coding homework and her computer coding class project. “Ding dong”. Anna rushes over to the door in hopes of it being her babysitter, Jamie. She opens the door and a low and behold, it’s Jamie. As soon as Jamie walked inside, Anna’s parents remind them to be safe and don’t answer the front door. Mr. and Mrs. Smith were going out into the city for the night and left Anna alone with her babysitter, Jamie. Once the parents left, Jamie called her boyfriend, Chris, to come and pick them up. While they waited for Chris to come, Anna and Jamie blasted music and jammed out to their favorite songs in Anna’s bedroom. They shouted out of her window and laughed so hard. Chris called Jamie on his phone to come down. They hopped in his navy blue Honda and drove off without a care in the world.
It was the first week of school, Veronica and Carlos were studying for an upcoming test while watching the local news. As they were watching the news there was a protest going on in there city. The reporter was explaining that the protesters were from a white supremacists group who believed they owned America and were superior over all other races. In the midst of the crowd there was William. Carlos turned up the volume to get a better understanding of what the protesters were saying. They were chanting “ Go back to your country!” while holding torches and
It was about one-thirty in the morning in the town of Homestead Michigan. The almost florescent light of the moon bouncing off the fresh puddles that covered the ground. The grass and trees were covered in a thin layer of water causing every little beam of light to reflect back up. Anyone who may have been outside at this time would have without double, smelled the mix of fresh dirt and night crawlers. As the moonlight started to fade away through the cloud cover, three buses made there way through the streets and parked in front of HHS, the local high school.
Duncan pulls into his driveway leans over to grab Penelope’s hand, presumably to apologize, and she doesn’t react. All she can do is sit there and start off into oblivion. Somewhere in her subconscious she registers that the engine had stopped, she opens the door, and slowly maneuvers out, and back into her house with no intention of ever leaving again. She crawls into bed without thinking, undressing, or greeting a single person and falls into what she can only assume is a coma. A couple hours later she wakes up to a quick and shark rapping knock and her bedroom door and her dad asked her to come with him. She agrees and instead of being greeted by his fresh farmer’s omelet as she could only expect, she’s greeted by two badges, handcuffs,
