If you were the greatest college basketball player in the country, and you were predicted to go first overall in the NBA Draft after your freshman year. Would you pass up millions of dollars to pursue your dream? This is the question that many college players are faced with. Some stay and try to win a National Championship. Most of them go to the draft as a freshman. This rule called the One and Done rule is affecting many college players of today. The One and Done Rule lets players get into the NBA after their first year of college. It gets good players in the NBA, it could save them from injury, and it makes their dreams a reality. Many people argue that college players going One and Done hurts the NBA and the players doing it. For example, according to Hero Sports, 88% of the One and Done players since 2006 have been drafted in the first round. This is shows that these players are the best of the best and ready for the next level of basketball. Also, according to The Undefeated, since the last 10 NBA drafts, there has been 9 One and Dones that became All-Stars. This shows that some of these players are really special and if they didn’t go One and Done, the NBA wouldn’t be the same. Lastly, In the same article by The Undefeated, it shows that players like Brandon Ingram(LAL) and Ben Simmons(PHI), who are very big players on their team, wouldn’t be in the NBA if they graduated. This is very important because it shows that the One and Done Rule gives teams that haven’t been so good, and opportunity to pick up some big time players that will help their team.
