In my future career I would want to go into the medical field. This way I could be able to help people in the community and also put a smile on families faces. I want to be of service and give back to the people that have helped me. For my project I really wanted to see what a paramedic does on a day to day basis. I really like the subject because I just love the medical field in general. I have seen what it has done for my family and also for those around me. I love learning about the human body and knowing what to do in case of emergencies. I have had the opportunity to take a first aid class and it really sparked an interest me in what I want to go into. For my project I contacted and job shadowed Chris Lowry. He agreed to be my supervisor. I loved doing this because I would like the first person experience that his job gives. He works for Treasure Valley Paramedics, in Ontario. He has worked there for 18 years, and he said that he really wants to start teaching. I wanted to see what a day pursuing his job would be like. For the service hours , I was thinking about …show more content…
Doing this senior project made me interested in the profession of Oncology Nursing. Oncology Nurses are very special in that they care for patients within a different way; from the different effects of their cancer, the type of cancer , and the treatment they get the patients have. The patients should always be the number one focus. The patients are people who need help; they are real, have feelings, and opinions. They are real people with families and loved ones. Patients have families and you need to be respectful to families. Pediatrics is basically all about children, and their health. Pediatrics can be for kids with the flu, cancer, or even kids with different diseases. I really want to help these children get healthy and stay healthy, because they have a whole life in front of them. I want to be person to help them and have them feel
When I am older I would love to be a Nurse Practitioner, I enjoy helping people when they are sick and taking care of them. Another reason I want to be a Nurse Practitioner is because my sister is also a Nurse Practitioner.
Essay 1: How will you contribute to the mission of the Nurse Corps scholarship program in providing care to underserved communities?
Throughout this researched that I investigated I became interested in this field in a way. If I had an option in medical field I would take the option. Knowing that you are helping patients out is an amazing feeling. I would work with infants rather than adults. I would cherish every moment because you would never know if that’s the last time to work with the patient not just because of death but maybe cause they might recover from there sickness.
While doing my observations, at the outpatient and inpatient settings, I confirmed this is a career suited for my personality and abilities, where you get to teach patients how to recover and start from the beginning, and
Scholarship, leadership, character, and service are four attributes that define an excellent student. Being in high school, it’s difficult at times to be a leader, show your character, and be involved with voluntary services while being focused on scholarship, but I have managed to do all four numerous times. I am so grateful and excited to have the chance to be a part of the National Honors Society.
The article,”What is a Physician?” (2012) explains that being patient, tolerable, and being flexible are very important that benefit all health care workers. Dealing with death on a regular basis can take a toll on a person. Being a hospice nurse will never be easy and is certainly not for the faint of heart. A hospice nurse watches patient’s health decline, often times very rapidly, and many times sit by the patient’s side as they pass away. It can be exhausting both emotionally and physically. You need to have a big heart and a strong will to help those in need for the occupation. Sara Schmidt certainly never saw herself in the profession, but discovered that she has a true love for helping people.
A pediatric oncology nurse is who administers chemotherapy for children with cancer. Some may wonder, why would you want to work with children who have cancer? Wouldn't that be depressing? It would be depressing at times, but I would try my absolute best to make the treatment easy for the child and their family. Most nurses who give kids chemo just go through a routine. I would try to form a relationship with the child and help them through the emotional stress of their treatment. Although cancer is a very sensitive and sad topic, I find the scientific and medical standpoint of it very
As a pediatric hospitalist, there are a wide range of duties that must be completed for the safety and well-being of one’s patients. A duty amongst all physicians is caring for a patient’s illnesses. As a pediatrician, one must be involved in the physical, mental, and emotional upbringing of adolescents throughout every stage of development in good health as well as in illness. A pediatrician takes care of a child from a few weeks after birth to the age of twenty-one when the patient transfers to a new physician. The duties designated to all pediatricians is to reduce infant and child mortality rates, control diseases, make sure patients lead well-maintained lifestyles, and make easier the lives of children and adolescents with chronic conditions. Becoming a pediatrician would improve the lives of many children.
Working as an oncology nurse has been a life changing experience. I have grown not only as a nurse, but also as a person. My eyes have been opened to the value of life, and not just life itself, but the precious thing that is a healthy life. I cannot count the number of patients from the beginning of my nursing career until now that have told me, “Well, I just didn’t think my symptoms were a big deal” or “The doctor told me I needed additional tests but it didn’t seem important at the time and I didn’t have any money”. The lack of patient education and provider follow-up in situations such as these is disheartening to observe. Experiences I have had with patients combined with their life stories have fueled my desire to become a family nurse
According to the American Nurses Association, nursing is defined as “the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, facilitation of healing, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, groups, communities, and populations” (American Nurses Association, 2016). Nurses have many jobs and responsibilities and wear many different hats. Nurses can perform at many different levels depending on their scope of practice which is defined by the board of nursing in one’s state of residence. It is important as nurses to understand and follow
The major career I’m interested is a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner. They are professional registered nurse with clinical experience in neonatal nursing and also received formal education with supervised clinical experience. This type of nurse involve in the management of sick new-borns and their families. NNP’s concern is to those new-borns that requires special cared due to low birth weight, respiratory distress, congenital heart defects or various other abnormalities and disorders.
Saying that you are a registered nurse is a broad statement. Registered nursing is a job that has many aspects. Registered nurses work in many different settings and they carry out many different routines. As a registered nurse you could be exposed to many different opportunities. My goal is to be a registered nurse but, I need to learn a lot. Becoming a being a registered nurse requires a lot of hard work and effort but, if I focus on my goal I will be able to achieve it.
Regardless of the specialty, the main focus of a nurse includes assisting doctors in treating patients and providing clinical and emotional support to both patients and ancillary staff. With the role of administrative nursing supervisor comes additional responsibilities and administrative roles, such as staffing, organizing, prioritizing, and ultimately ensuring safe and quality patient care.
Nurses play a huge role in the health care system. A nurse is a bridge between doctor and patient. s/he is a compassionate, understanding and nonjudgmental yet firm and grounded. S/he is probably one of the most important yet least appreciated person in a patient’s life. When many think of a nurse they probably recognize them by a white hat and uniform. Today those white uniforms have been replaced with vividly colored scrubs worn by both male and female nurses, and many other employees in healthcare. Nurses are not just the people that are limited to bedside care and drug administration; they are highly skilled and well-educated nursing professionals.
