72 Minutes “Mistakes are always forgivable, if one has the courage to admit them.” Andy, a 16 year old gang member in Evan Hunters story “On the Sidewalk Bleeding” wanted to be respected as a Royal, but he was stabbed by a member of the Guardians, a Rival gang in the area. So, as he laid there dying he struggled to remove the jacket that had labeled him as a gang member. He had died as Andy not just another Royal that is not respected or cared about. In this story Hunter describes the last moments of Andy's life to display that bad choices can be forgiven. The clock strikes 11:13 and the blade of the knife is pulled from below Andy's ribcage after gashing a large hole into his body, “That's for you Royal!” Yells the member of the Guardians
Have you ever done something that you regretted later in life? In “The Un-numbing of Cory Willhouse” by Virgina Euwer Wolff, Cory attempts to make up back for his early mistakes. On Halloween night, when Cory was nine years old, he and three other friends stole from Kim’s Market and Grocery. Since that night, Cory has lived with the guilt. One morning, after hearing how the store burned down he decides to do something. Over the course of a few weeks, he helps put the store back together. After confessing to Mr. Kim as why he is helping, Cory is left with guilt that never subsides. The theme owning up to what you have done wrong by telling the truth is the morally right thing to do is represented in the story through the protagonist, the conflict, and the climax.
Though God does grant forgiveness, it must be earned at a price. The Lord opens people’s eyes to the severity of one’s sins, which often leaves a person feeling ashamed. Despite having committed a grave sin against the Christian honor, Sir Gawain was forgiven by the Green Knight. He has “confessed . . ., admitted [his] fault, and done honest penance on the edge of [the Green Knight’s] blade” (Winny 4.2391-2392). No one has to continue to live with the guilt, but should at least understand their sin. Sir Gawain realizes that he surrendered to cowardice and learned “to give way to covetousness” (Winny 4.2380). The Green Knight fulfills his role as God by bringing to attention the weakness Sir Gawain possesses as a knight and as a human. The Gawain poet describes the significance of “God’s grace for the forgiveness of sin and the granting of salvation” through the Green Knight’s godly role (Champion
First, Andy was stabbed because he was a Royal. “That’s for you ,Royal!” (Para. 2) was what Andy heard after he was stabbed. This shows Andy was categorized as a Royal because he was stabbed not for any actions that he had performed, but for wearing his gang’s jacket.
Having resolved the terms of the agreement, the Green Knight gets ready for the blow by kneeling down and moving his long green hair away from his neck. Gawain skillfully grips the ax and strikes the Green Knight with all his might, cutting through the flesh with such force that the blade ends up in the ground.
This story encourages knights to live honestly and never give up trying to improve in the qualities he believe in. And in general the author advises the readers to seek for truth and reminds them the suddenness of death and the final judgment in the Christian faith. That judgment can come upon you in your finest hour, in the midst of a party.
In the Pearl poet’s Sir Gawain and The Green Knight, an epic talk emerges to reveal a man’s journey of honesty, morals, and honor. Sir Gawain accepts a challenge in place of his uncle King Arthur, with hidden tests and viable consequences. As Gawain begins his journey, he proudly upholds his knightly honor and seeks out his own death; however, Gawain gives into his human emotion and is soon distracted from his chivalrous motives. As a result of this distraction, Gawain is marked with a scar to show his dishonest and cowardly deception. This scar is a visible reminder to Sir Gawain that honor and prestige cannot always protect against the desires of the flesh. Gawain pays for his sins at the Green Knights axe (Stone 136). This sin tarnishes his honor and causes Gawain to face the rest of his life as a witness to human frailty.
"We are placed on the side of mortality itself, and can thus, with the Green Knight, forgive Gawain for his single act of cowardice: what he did was done not out of sensual lust but for love of life--'the less, then, to blame.' In the context of this affectionate sympathy, Gawain's own violent anger at the revelation of his fault must itself be viewed with amusement, as part of his human fallibility." (Marie Borroff, Introduction)
The two authors of “Initiation” and “On the Sidewalk, Bleeding,” Sylvia Plath and Evan Hunter, use setting and characterization to establish the mood, foundation to the plot, and introduce problems.
“Forgive and forget” is a common phrase in our society. However, one may argue that mistakes are never truly forgotten. The Kite Runner suggests that the best way to resolve your past and make up for your mistakes is through doing good. Through Rahim Khan’s wisdom, the actions of Baba, and the journey of Amir, Khaled Hosseini illustrates that the need for redemption, due to unresolved guilt, can haunt someone throughout their life.
‘Atonement’ features unpalatable truths about the multifaceted human condition, which we develop an awareness of as we make mistakes and confront obstacles in life. However, atoning for the mistakes can sometimes be difficult, or impossible. Briony omitted to telling her parents the truth
Most people around the world lack sympathy. Norman Cousins, the author of “Who Killed Benny Paret?” talks about how people become blind to their own actions. The author says, “The time the crowd comes alive is when a man is hit so hard over the heart of the head, when his mouthpiece flies out, when the

I believe that both Kate and Andy, in their own way, followed Everett Worthington’s REACH model of forgiveness. They recalled the hurt, empathized with Conor, gave him the gift or forgiveness, were committed to that forgiveness, and held on to that forgiveness, to the point that they were his strongest advocates for a lighter sentence. They forgave quickly and easily, not out of concern for their health or out of guilt, but out of their spirituality and need for internal peace. They did not want to be victims and they did not want their daughter to be just a statistic. “Everything I feel, I can feel because we forgave Conor,” Kate said. “Because we could forgive, people can say her name. People can think about my daughter, and they don’t
Blood spatter is a vital piece of evidence in Criminal Investigation; it can tell a lot about the events that occurred in the crime scene. That is why it is very important to make little mistakes as possible when handling blood spatter evidence. The blood spatter expert featured in the show The New Detectives: Case Studies in Forensic Science, Dwane Dever from the State Bureau of Investigation successfully analyzed the blood spatter at the crime scene. The expert did things any blood spatter expert would do like measure the size of the blood spatter to determine the impact, and find the point of origin to find out where the blood came out. These procedures helped investigators determine whether or not foul play took place.
