The poem “On The Pulse of Morning” written by Maya Angelou, this poem explains the effects of cultural diversity among the American people during the late 20th century. Maya states in the sixth stanza of her poem; “Each of you, a bordered country, Delicate and strangely made proud, Yet thrusting perpetually under siege. Your armed struggles for profit Have left collars of waste upon My shore, currents of debris upon my breast. Yet today I call you to my riverside, If you will study war no more.” (Angelou, 6) This part of stanza sixth explains the effects of cultural diversity about everybody who is from different countries should come to peace and should be called to the riverside, if only they don’t study war no more and not destroy each other. It is important that they represent our country with peace and not war. Richard states in the first stanza in his poem; “One sun rose on us today, kindled over our shores, peeking over the Smokies, greeting the faces of the Great Lakes, spreading a simple truth across the Great Plains, then charging across the Rockies. One light, waking up rooftops, under each one, a story told by our silent gestures, moving behind windows.” (Blanco, 1) This explains that we need to focus on this day and not what has happened in the past and all the negativity. It also explains that we should accept the faces of the Great lakes and receive positivity. Also spreading “a simple truth” to the Great Plains. The effects on cultural diversity in the early 21st centuries were that we weren’t giving respect and kind to others and not accepting that we are grateful for today and to always remind ourselves that we are special and deserve to be treated
