Omar Epps
In the movies, Love and Basketball, and The Program the viewer can see various similarities that develop. One of the obvious comparisons can be seen in how the actor Omar Epps performs and the similar situations he’s faced with. In both films, he goes through struggles and reveals the life of a highly recruited athlete. The Program is produced by Samuel Goldwyn, Jr., while Love and Basketball is produced by Spike Lee and Sam Kitt.
Love and Basketball is a movie that combines a love story with how basketball affects the relationship of two high school sweethearts. The two main characters in the movie are Quincy and his girlfriend, Monica. Quincy is played by Omar Epps and the story begins with showing how he is a very talented athlete in the central part of Los Angeles. He goes to a high school by the name of Crenshaw and is the leader of their well-known basketball team. By the end of his senior year, many colleges around the nation want him to come and represent their school. Quincy eventually tells all of his fans and supporters he has chosen to go to the University of Southern California. In the mean time, his soon to be girlfriend, Monica, is also expected to attend the same college. Later in the movie, Quincy and Monica get together and problems start to rise. Because Quincy is so popular with all the girls on campus he ends his relationship with Monica and starts his quest for the right girl to marry. On another note, throughout the movie a very noticeable trait that Quincy displays is his confidence. For instance, Quincy always seems to get what he wants and his attitude towards everything is he will eventually be the best. This is mostly seen in his actions around girls and on the bask...

...et with Autumn because he is confident in his capabilities. Another correlation between the two films is the family problems they face. Each character comes from a home where the parents aren’t together anymore or they really never knew them. Lastly, Omar Epps is rewarded with the girl of his dreams in each motion picture, and it ends in a fairy tale fashion.
Looking at each movie, the observer can see why Omar Epps was chosen for the main roles. He does a great job of presenting a college athlete faced with hardships and how to deal with adversity. His actions in both movies are comparable and because he plays an athlete, they have the same general theme. Each performance feeds off the other and after making The Program, Spike Lee and Sam Kitt probably thought Omar Epps would be perfect for Love and Basketball. In the end, he did a pretty good job.
Malala Yousafzai has made many claims for what she believes in. Those without a voice need to be heard. The taliban cannot quiet her. Nonviolence is one of the World’s greatest traditions. Education is one of the most important human rights. Yousafzai is able to support these claims with the way she speaks. She is splendid at using rhetoric, persuasive language with techniques like figures of speech. Malala Yousafzai uses repetition, pathos, and ethos to support her claims.
...d coloring of certain images. The novel, however, puts much greater emphasis on the imagination and creativity, and on the main character Tita. The novel really makes the reader feel Titas pain and grow with her as she discovers her freedom, whereas the movie failed to achieve this. Moreover, the movie tends to ignore the significant of 3 integral motifs, cooking, tears and sensuality.
In conclusion, details involving the characters and symbolic meanings to objects are the factors that make the novel better than the movie. Leaving out aspects of the novel limits the viewer’s appreciation for the story. One may favor the film over the novel or vice versa, but that person will not overlook the intense work that went into the making of both. The film and novel have their similarities and differences, but both effectively communicate their meaning to the public.

Love is something that humans have sought and desired for a long time and to us it seems as if love has been around since our dawning. We express this love in many different forms. We express love through writing, gift giving, art, and cinematic productions. But at what point does the expression of love lose its value? The Best of Me and Before Sunrise are examples of how one can go about expressing the meaning of love. They are both cinematic productions laced with the woes of love, but the way these two stories unfold before the viewer are subtly and, to some, even strikingly different. Before Sunrise veers off the well beaten path of clichéd love stories and rides on newfangled roads whereas The Best of Me stays in line with what is usually churned out in adaptation to a Nicholas Sparks novels. There was a large difference within budgeting for these two movies. $2,500,000 was put in place as the budget for
Certain mental illnesses can lead to homicidal behaviour. Not to say that all people diagnosed with psychosis or psychopathy are inclined to do dangerous things but certain mental illnesses can cause someone to react in a violent manner. Post the columbine massacre, information was released that Dylan Klebold suffered from anger management while his counterpart, Eric Harris suffered from anxiety and depression. Eric Harris was given antidepressants to help treat his depression but he refused to take them, and threw them out into the garbage, (The Final Report, 2007) causing his mental state to further decline into paranoia and worsen his depression. The killers were not targeting anybody specifically but in The Final Report’s documentary of
Rhetoric is often used by the media to sway or influence the opinion of the reader. This influence is not always deliberately used, but it is used nonetheless. This influence can affect a number of things, including politics. This influence on politics makes the rhetoric a useful yet possibly dangerous tool. The connotations in the words used by the media in regards to politics can greatly influence potential voters. This rhetoric influences the way that ordinary citizens see the candidates and the election system as a whole. Studying the way that the rhetoric influences these citizens may help future candidates use this language to their advantage. Also, citizens may be abIe to better equipped to determine whether or not they have formed their own opinions without bias from the media or outside sources. Knowing how the media influences citizens can help one to remain logical. Also,
After all the trouble Allen got to choose to return to his old high school Bethel. He didn’t go back to his school and decided to work with a tutor to earn his high school diploma. There are many similarities between different texts in literature as well as film. Many movies you see are alike. However, every one of them has their own perspective on the content that is presented. Two movies may have an almost identical plot line, but they change the way you view it. For example, there are many movies made about the well known story, Cinderella. They all follow one plot line; a girl’s father dies, and has to live with her wicked stepmother and step sisters whom she does all the dirty work for, a “fairy godmother” helps her sneak out to go to a dance but has to be back by 12:00 so her stepmother does not find out. The girl goes to the dance, meets her true love who just happens to be the guy every other girl is dying to have. She runs out before the clock strikes 12:00 and loses an item of hers that her true love just so happens to find. He uses it to find the girl and they live happily ever after. The well known stories of Pyramus and Thisbe and Romeo and Juliet are similar by two young people falling outrageously in love, the miscommunication, and the suicidal d...

Hoop Dream is a documentary about two African American kids named William Gates and Arthur Agee, and they are both from the ghetto hoods in Chicago. It was a place often making a lot of good basketball players into the NBA. But have the most realistic, brutal, competition into the film. The two main characters we find in the film turned into outstanding basketball players in their high school. It speaks of the daily life of their families. The theme of the film was about the American family; there was a strong desire coming up with someone’s hope and love. In the selection of the greatest film of the 1990s, Roger Ebert thought this movie was the best documentary of Oscar Award in the meantime. Even they have crashed on the Oscar, and the reason was the movie taken almost 3 hours long. Because of his insistence, the movie still can get the consistently high rate for such a quality objective evaluation.
Romanticism began in the 18th century during 1800-1850. Romanticism basically originated in England. It was a reaction to industrial revolution. The peak of romanticism was associated with liberalism and radicalism, but overall I think it mostly affected the growth on nationalism, the growth was very large. Romanticism isn’t easily defined. Romanticism does vary greatly between different countries and different artistic media or areas of thought. Romanticism was pretty much the largest artistic movement of the late 1700s. Its influence was noticed across continents through the mid-nineteenth century, and many of its values and beliefs can still be seen in contemporary poetry. Romanticism witnessed a steady loosening of the rules of artistic expression that were pervasive during earlier times. Romantic ideas basically centered on art as inspiration, and the spiritual and aesthetic dimension of nature, and metaphors of organic growth.
Romanticism is the evolution of literary ideals resulting from the American and French Revolution that took Western Europe by storm from 1785 to 1832. The Romantic period during the late 18th century, was designed to forward a new understanding to the common reader, challenging the ideals of classicism and shedding a new light on Aesthetic literature that has influenced today 's literary culture. William Wordsworth and his colleague Samuel Coleridge, challenged their neoclassical predecessors and taught us to glorify our spontaneous overflow of emotion, as a source for inspiration. As a result, Romantic artists emerged to follow the steps of Wordsworth and Coleridge, leading to an expansion of literary
Enthusiasm is the main positive emotion that is targeted in political ads, along with hope (Brader 2006). Ads that target enthusiasm typically have uplifting music with positive, bright colored images (Brader 2006, 6). Unlike anxiety and fear, enthusiasm has more potential to change people’s vote (Marcus and Mackuen 1993). Ads that provoke these positive emotions typically lead to the voters viewing the candidates more positively and usually mobilize voters more to be engaged with the campaign (Brader 2006; Marcus and Mackuen 1993). Positive ads also force voters to rely on preexisting knowledge and decisions (Brader 2005). Voters also show no information seeking behaviors when shown positive ads but rather show increased levels of interest in the campaign and candidate (Brader 2005). Enthusiasm has also been shown to make voters more loyal to their party preferences and more willing to vote (Brader 2005). Overall, enthusiasm has a lot of positive benefits when they are used in political
Recent studies have even found that, in certain circumstances, negative campaigning can actually increase voter turnout. One study printed in the journal Political Psychology reported several reasons for this increase in voting (Martin 549-551). First, negative campaigning gives Americans a sense of 'republican duty”. Negative ads make the American public more aware of international and domestic problems facing the country, and this causes an increase in voter turnout. In other words, when Americans are concerned about the welfare of the country, they are more likely to go to the polls. Another possible reason for the increase in voter turnout has to do with the competitiveness of the race. When a race is close, candidates have to find a way to distinguish themselves from their opponents. The easiest way to do this is by using negative advertising. The voters are caught up in the close competition and start to feel like their votes really matters. This is one area where both theories on voter turnout find agreement. When voters feel a greater sense of importance or effectiveness in the political system, they are more likely to vote. A third reason for the increase is a perceived personal threat to the voter from a candidate. If a candidate looks like he/she might be a threat to the personal interests and safety of the voter, then the voter is more likely to vote. A famous example of this type of ad is the “Revolving Door” ad George H. Bush used against Michael Dukakis in the presidential election of 1988 (Jamieson 17-23) . The ad featured an African American man named Willie Horton who, while on parole from prison, raped a young woman and stabbed her fiancee. The ad implied that Dukakis was responsible for Horton's violent behavior because Dukakis supported the prison furlough program as governor of Massachusetts. Political strategists report the ad used racism and
