It shows that nice clothes can boost your confidence and self esteem. Everyone deserves to look and feel acceptable about themselves. Clothing is a big part of your appearance to exceed your expectation of looking and feeling confident. Old Navy has pleasant and comfortable clothes that are long lasting and can be passed down to others. Your appearance can make you feel powerful, help you think better, or smarter. For example, you would think that you look unattractive wearing sweats and a plain T-shirt rather than a fancy dress or a suit and tie that make you look important. Your choice of fashion and clothes can describe your mood. Something flattering and vibrant can be portrayed as being happy and having a positive attitude. But only three million children are getting lunches through the federal summer lunch program.”(P5) Readers react differently to certain appeals which is why this author chooses two to make sure the point gets across. Logos is for the readers that have a bigger reaction to numbers than appeals to emotion. Quindlen effectively uses statistics that fit nicely in with the rest of the paragraphs to have a nice development into anecdotes. While there are quite a few statistics in this essay, they don’t overpower the sense of pathos in this essay. They actually go nicely with fitting into the anecdotes and giving background information to better understand the

Food insecurity is an issue faced by millions of Americans every day, and the biggest group affected by this is working families with children. Food insecurity is so big that the United States government has now recognized it and provided a definition for it. The United States government has defined food insecurity as “a household level economic and social condition of limited or uncertain access to adequate food” (USDA.gov). Food banks and anti-hunger advocates agree that some of the causes of food insecurity are stagnant wages, increase in housing costs, unemployment, and inflation of the cost of food. These factors have caused food banks to see a change in the groups of people needing assistance. Doug O’Brien, director of public policy and research at Chicago-based Second Harvest says “’we’ve seen a real shift in who we serve. A decade ago, it was almost always homeless, single men and chronic substance abusers. Now we have children and working families at soup kitchens’” (Koch). These families that are feeling the effects of food insecurity will not be only ones affected by it, but all of America. Studies have shown that there is a link between food security, performance in the classroom, and obesity. If this issue is not faced head on, America will have a generation of children not fully prepared for the workforce and high health insurance rates due to obesity health issues.

In the year 2015, around 40 million U.S. citizens were food insecure (Randall para. 3). Food insecurity can be defined in paragraph 3 by “[having] difficulty at some time during the year providing enough food for all their members due to a lack of resources. This 12.7% of American citizens also contains another group - children. Aged 10-17, 6.8 million adolescents struggle with a food insecurity. There have been several years of cuts to the social programs designed to help these people, along with the Great Recession continuing to leave an impact on the U.S. economy (para. 6). Under the Obama administration, $8.6 billion was cut from the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as Food Stamps. From 1993-2001 under the Clinton administration, former President Bill Clinton’s administration “gutted the welfare system” (para. 15). Because of these budget cuts, the families who rely on food assistance from the government have been allotted less throughout the years. From a sociological perspective, the concepts of sociological imagination, class stratification, and social location are in effect when it comes to child hunger in the United States. Being hungry is an issue larger than any one individual can control.
The Zara owner is actually the 3rd richest man in the world, which really shows the impact fast fashion has on society. Fast fashion is something that is all over us, but we have a choice now whether we purchase fast fashion or fair trade. I know it may seem like there are no fair trade stores, but in reality there are so many. I go to a farmers market every Saturday morning in Fresno, and there they have a booth with all kinds of fair trade products. They are looking to have an actual store as soon as they get a bigger clientele, which I can’t wait for. There are also some clothing items at the produce store, Whole Foods. For more clothes and other products there are online fair trade clothing stores to choose from like, People Tree, Fair Indigo, Pact, and Thread
Marketing, advertising, and the media all try to influence the way our generation dresses. Their reasons are mainly profit based. We also make our clothing choices based on the Functionality of the garment. Consumers of our generation often look at the comfort, durability, and adaptability of a piece before purchasing. History has had a great influence on the look of most clothing worn today. Clothes reminiscent of the past are often known as "retro" which has become one of the signature styles of Generation Y. Clothing also helps us to express ourselves. Youth often choose clothing to reflect their unique personality. These factors are explained further below.
To begin with, clothing has changed a lot over the years, from rags to Gucci. Along with the clothes, the price of clothes has changed.
