I. Introduction
In reading the article “The Origin of Old-Earth Geology and its Ramifications for Life in the 21st Century by Dr. Terry Mortenson, I discovered the different points debated by Christian and non-Christian scientists about how the universe was created. Dr. Mortenson says” Almost everyone living today takes for granted that the universe and earth are billions of years old” (Mortenson, 2003). I will discusses the author’s strengths and weakness in the article that affected my views on the theory.
II. Overview of main points
The article written by Dr. Terry Mortenson informs the reader of the old earth geology theory through scriptural geology. The two key points made by Dr. Mortenson are the validation of the Young-Earth belief, and assessments on how the Old-Earth theory impacts society. Christianity and science have a strong role in the beliefs and non-beliefs of what people believe. A lot of people do not know this type of argument

exist and the consequences of this debate are the rejection of God through the different theories. Dr. Mortenson has an in-depth argument on the ramifications of the Old-Earth Theory, but there are many areas left without enough critical information. III. Article Strengths Dr.
Mortenson sets a clear tone for the article, he gives strong and well written statements on how the old-earth has changed with time. I practically enjoyed how Dr. Mortenson created an outline that allowed each scientist or geologist to be recognized by dates. The tone Dr. Mortenson set from the introduction does not change his theory stays the same, it’s clear the earth was created by God as the “Holy Bible” States. Religion and history go hand in hand, if you have a strong sense of religion than your scientist views are based on what God created. If you are not religious than the research the scientist provided can sound very convincing. One major strength of this article was Dr. Mortenson hints to the fact that old-earth geologist are not looking for honest facts, they are picking and choosing what they believe or deny without evidence. Another strong point Dr. Mortenson made was in today’s culture; more scientist are considering Creation because they see that evolution is a “theory in crisis” (Mortenson,
2003). IV. Article Weaknesses There are a lot of good points made in the article written by Dr. Mortenson but there are a few confusion weak points as well. I mentioned a quote from Dr. Mortenson in my introduction, the reason I did that was because I was unsure if it was going to be a weakness of this article. The comment left me confused about what Dr. Mortenson was truly trying to say. It sounds like Dr. Mortenson is leading to the fact that the earth is older than the bible. Dr. Mortenson contradicts his statement and in the conclusion he says “The only hope for the halt and reversal of the increasing moral decadence and hopelessness in the West and in the Easy is the return of individuals to God and His Word, which gives us the trust history of the world” (Mortenson, 2003). Words half to be used for exact meanings when comparing the world vs the bible. V. Conclusion Overall Dr. Terry Mortenson did an outstanding job explain the different views of each scientist. This topic is one that not many people question until faced with the question “How did the earth come into being”? My personal belief is God created all things, in all things God created the earth. “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1). Christian Beliefs in the Origins of the World “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. ” A Description of Christian Beliefs About the Origins of The World Christians believe that God created the universe. In Chapters 1 and 2 of Genesis, we are told that God creates both the universe and everything that is in it.
Throughout history there has always been discussions and theories as to how the universe came to be. Where did it come from? How did it happen? Was it through God that the universe was made? These philosophies have been discussed and rejected and new theories have been created. I will discuss three theories from our studies, Kalam’s Cosmological Argument, Aquinas’s Design Argument, and Paley’s Design Argument. In this article, I will discuss the arguments and what these arguments state as their belief. A common belief from these three theories is that the universe is not infinite, meaning that the universe was created and has a beginning date. Each believe that there was a God, deity, or master creator that created the universe for a reason. They also believe that
Throughout the world there are various cultures with varying religions and creation stories to explain the creation of the Earth and it’s inhabitants. Of these creation stories two with similar and also different characteristics is the Creation story in the book of Genesis which is a part of the 1st Testament in the Hebrew Bible and explains the creation of Earth and humans, and the Theogony which is the greek creation story that describes the origins of the Earth and the Greek Gods. Both the Theogony and the Creation in Genesis show nature as a blessing for humans but it can also affect them negatively, However the myths differ in the ways that the Earth and humans were created and how humans interact with the deities of the creation stories.
The second creation myth I will examine in this essay is of Greek origin and is known as The Five Ages of Man. This myth begins wit...

Therefore, it’s difficult to start a conversation between geologists, archaeologists and historians. It’s vital to narrow the research prospects in these fields but also I think there needs to be more scientific discourse between different fields that affect each other in one way or another. The human historical paradigm is grounded in the research of archaeology. However, Hancock debates that the field of geology has more to teach humans about our history than we think. He debates that around 15,000 to 8,000 BC, during the last ice age, an unprecedented world-wide cataclysm was overlooked that led to the extinction of countless species, including the megafauna (Hancock

Christian Science is an idealistic and most radical form of transcendental religiosity. The study of Christian Science teaches a feeling of understanding of God's goodness and the differences between good and evil, life and death. The purpose of this paper is to address how the study of Christian Science helps us better understand the impact of globalization in America, as well as the impact of American on globalization. This paper is important because globalization features a dominant worldview. All throughout the world people believe, study and teach different types of religious movements that impact others. People need to better understand how certain religions modify, conflict with, and impact the world. First, it will discuss the life and work of the founder, Mary Baker Eddy. Secondly, it will examine the primary rituals and religious services of the Christian Science movement. Then, it will outline the precursors and history of the religion. In the conclusion, a response will be offered to the question of how Christian Science helps us better understand the impact of globalization on America and of America on globalization.
There are different viewpoints on the question “what is the universe made of?” I think that both science and religion offer their own explanation to this topic and they sometimes overlap, which creates contradictions. Therefore, I do not agree with Stephen Jay Gould’s non-overlapping magisterial, which claims that there is a fine line separating science from religion. That being said, I think the conflict between science and religion is only in the study of evolution. It is possible for a scientist to be religious if he is not studying evolution, because science is very broad and it has various studies. In this essay, I will talk about the conflict between religion and science by comparing the arguments from Stephen Jay Gould and Richard Dawkins. I argue that science and religion do overlap but only in some area concerning evolution and the cosmic design. Furthermore, when these overlaps are present it means that there are conflicts and one must choose between science and religion.
In today’s society, many topics create a very substantial amount of controversy between different groups of people. From abortion to the healthcare reform, there are countless topics of discussion. One of the major and ongoing controversial topics in the religious society is the Big Bang theory versus Creation. One side of the controversy is, predominately, the scientific community, with the other end obviously being the religious community.
“The greatest mystery of existence is existence itself” (Chopra). Chopra, a world-renowned author, perceives the existence of life as a truly mystifying cerebration. The pending question that many scientist, and even theists, attempt to answer is how life ultimately began. Currently, the mystery is left with two propositions, evolution and creation. While both approaches attempt to answer the origins of life, evolution and creation are two contrasting concepts. Evolution views life to be a process by which organisms diversified from earlier forms whereas creation illustrates that life was created by a supernatural being. Creation and evolution both agree on the existence of microevolution and the resemblance of apes and humans but vary in terms of interpreting the origins of the life through a historical standpoint. A concept known as Faith Vs Fact comprehensively summarizes the tone of this debate, which leads the question of how life began.
Creationism and the study of evolution has been a controversial debate for decades now, leaving many people on one side or the other. Creationism argues that faith should take precedent over science, basing its beliefs on one book for guidance, the Bible. God created the earth and everything on it, taking six days. Evolutionists believe that the earth is much older than the Bible describes, and that plants, animals, and humans are a result of a natural progression called evolution. There were no common ancestors (Adam and Eve) from whom we came; it was a natural selection process, stemming from inorganic compounds and nature. For many people in the scientific world, it is hard to take a final stance on this issue since there is evidence of evolution, but that is where faith in God and what God has done comes into effect. According to a great medieval philosopher, Moses Maimonides, “conflicts between science and the Bible arise from either a lack of scientific knowledge or a defective understanding of the Bible”(Schroeder, 3). This paper will reveal some topics that these two groups debate about, along with their viewpoints.
Everyone fantasizes about how life and relationships are, for any kind of relationship we may have with anyone. We picture this perfect fairytale like connection with someone. In Unaccustomed earth Lahiri, shows how hard and complicated some relationships are, and how it can be hard to keep a good connection/relationship with someone. The three stories show how even someone you are with every single day of your life, can be so far away from you no matter how close someone may seem to be. There are many different relationships that we will have in life.
