Sometimes Olaf would go to the big land to get some things which he cannot get on the Skelrih island. One day, Olaf realized that he got a problem. He needed help from someone to prepare for the winter because he was too old to do it alone. He asked his very close friends in a village on the big land, if they can help him or sent someone to prepare for the winter. His friends were very busy, but they sent their son Haldor to the island. Haldor was the strongest man in the village, he was young and foolish, and when his civilians asked him to help a very close friend he immediately agreed. The next day Olaf and Haldor went fishing on a boat not far away from the coast. However, Olaf didn’t know that Haldor has never fished before, so Olaf taught him how to. Haldor didn’t like fishing, it was boring and very long, but Haldor didn’t tell Olaf that he was bored. By the evening they arrived back to the house and put all of the fish into the barrels. Haldor thought that he could go and explore the island but it was already way too dark. Before they went to sleep Olaf said that tomorrow they will go to the forest to chop down some trees. The next day Olaf and Haldor woke up and went to the forest. The forest itself was very beautiful and dense forest. They came to the place where Olaf would usually chop the trees and began working. The time passed slowly, Haldor was working very hard but the tees were very hard to chop down. By the end of the day Haldor was exhausted and the only thing he wanted was to go to sleep. Before they went to sleep Olaf said that tomorrow they will harvest the oat and

(6) The suddenness of the winter storm caught people by surprise. A roar “like an approaching train” was all the warning the storm gave. (130) The roaring wind and snow brought darkness and dropping temperatures. The people who were inside when the blizzard struck faced a dilemma. Staying inside and doing nothing seemed “heartless,” but going into the storm “on a rescue mission was likely to be fatal to the rescuer and useless to the lost.” (143) The people who were unfortunate enough to be away from home, whether they were at school or working with their livestock, had to make a difficult decision. They could either risk trying to make it home or chance it out and stay where they were. Schoolteachers had to decide whether to send the children home or keep them at the school. If anyone ventured outside, he or she risked frostbite, hypothermia, and likely
The past few weeks had been hot, dry, and rainless. A drought. Rain had not fallen for three months. Though, despite the drought, the O’Leary family had been having an exceptional October. Suddenly, they noticed something was passing by them in a distance of a half a mile. ?We perceived a low carriage, fixed on a sledge and drawn by dogs, pass on towards the north.? It was very strange to see another human/carriage on ice. It was a shock to the crew to see a single man on sled drag by dogs through Northern Sea. Comparing to a well equipped ship, the sled looked like a deadly ride. As mentioned earlier you could only see the endless ice surrounding them and they couldn?t believe that a single man would travel far from the Big Land. However, the man on a sled was a gigantic stature and most likely he was a strong and a brave man.

The arrival of winter was well on its way. Colorful leaves had turned to brown and fallen from the branches of the trees. The sky opened to a new brightness with the disappearance of the leaves. As John drove down the country road he was much more aware of all his surroundings. He grew up in this small town and knew he would live there forever. He knew every landmark in this area. This place is where he grew up and experienced many adventures. The new journey of his life was exciting, but then he also had a sick feeling in the pit of his stomach of something not right.
His home and neighborhood are not the only sources of the boy's animosity. The weather is also unkind to the boy. Not only is it cold, but the short days of winter make play more difficult under the “feeb...
When the narrator introduced the main character of the story, the man, he made it clear that the man was in a perilous situation involving the elements. The man was faced with weather that was 75 degrees below zero and he was not physically or mentally prepared for survival. London wrote that the cold "did not lead him to meditate upon his frailty as a creature of temperature, and upon man's frailty in general, able only to live within certain narrow limits of heat and cold."(p.1745) At first when the man started his journey to the camp, he felt certain that he could make it back to camp before dinner. As the trip progressed, the man made mistake after mistake that sealed his fate. The man's first mistake was to step into a pool of water and soak his legs to the knees. This blunder forced the man to build a fire to dry his wet socks and shoes so his feet would not freeze and become frostbitten. When the man began to build a fire he failed to notice that he was doing so under a large, snow laden spruce tree where he was getting his firewood. When the man had a small fire that was beginning to smolder the disturbance to the tree caused the snow to tumble to the ground and extinguish the fire. "It was his own fault or, rather, his mistake. He should not have built the fire under the spruce tree. He should have built it in the open."(1750).
We all know the story of Hansel and Gretel. Two innocent little children who were walking in the woods and found a house made of candy. There was an ugly old witch inside who tried to bake them into a pie. Well that is only one side of the story. I am here to tell you what really happened.
