In the story of "Of Mice and Men" there are two friends who are searching for a job and what happens in their lives can not be predicted. The story connects to the chaos theory where nature is unpredictable and the events in the story are considered unpredictable as well. The theme of the story is that everything revolves around the Chaos theory which anything can not be predicted. In Of Mice and Men many events of the story are vague, there could be certain events that could happened. but most of the time those events cannot be displayed properly. In certain part of the story it shows how the slightest of things can have a big impact on a separate event. On the first chapter of the book a quote describes how something could have been true but was different in the character's perspective. "He said angrily, "We could just as well of rode clear to the ranch if that bastard bus driver knew what he was talkin' about. 'Jes' a little stretch down the highway,' he says. 'Jes' a little stretch.' God damn near four miles, that's what it was!" (Chapter 1, Page 2) In this quote George believed that the road would be just a little stretch but it was at least four miles. This illustrates that even if it was just a little stretch that could of taken place in the story. But in that purpose it was just a long …show more content…
road. Furthermore, other reasons why the story connects with the chaos theory is that, when whit came inside the room to show slim a passage of a magazine from a retired co-workers brother, this event was unpredicted because of how suddenly whit arrive at the bunk room.
(Chapter 3, Page 23) it could have been possible for whit to not appear at that bunk and the story would have a different outcome. What also could have not been predicted was that William Tenner letter was in that article, anyone's letter could have been on that magazine, but William Tenner letter had that special opportunity to appear on that magazine. But other event may also be relevant to the chaos
theory. Finally, these reason shows the connection between the story and the chaos theory is when George killed Lennie. During that time many other events could have occurred in the place of the one that already happened. For example. George could have decided to run away with Lennie and find a different place that they could work in. Another event that could happen is that, Lennie could have been caught and be thrown in jail. This presents itself by showing how prediction are never always positively correct as any possible thing can happen during those given events. The theme of the story is that everything revolves around the Chaos theory and which anything can not be predicted. The story is illustrated through these event which can lead to complication for each character. Events like whit showing the article to slim might have never happen if George and Lennie were never in the same room with the two gentlemen. In the world there are infinite possibility and multiple choices that each individual can make. But we can only decide on one when we are given the opportunity. Work cited page:
Mark Twain best described courage when he said that, “Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear - not absence of fear” (Twain). Both in The One Who Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest by Ken Kesey and Watership Down by Richard Adams, the authors deal with the topic of courage and each share a similar view on it as this quote. Indeed, both authors suggest that courage is not accumulated simply by acts of heroism, but rather by overcoming fears and speaking one’s mind as well. These books are very similar in the way that bravery is displayed through the characters in an uncommon way. Firstly, an example of bravery
"His [Piggy] head opened and stuff came out and turned red. Piggy’s arms and legs twitched a bit, like a pig’s after it has been killed. Then the sea breathed again in a long, slow sigh, the water boiled white and pink over the rock; and when it went, sucking back again, the body of Piggy was gone."
Goldings ideology is first shown through the character Piggy’s attitude and mindset. Piggy has demonstrated that he is the most mature out of all the boys through the way in which he expresses himself and the concern that he has towards the boys’ needs. This statement is supported by Piggy’s statement “ ‘Like kids!’ he said scornfully ‘Acting like a crowd of kids’ ” (pg.38). Here Piggy demonstrates a part of him that makes him bitter and rude. Although Piggy is a kid himself, he gets upset at the boys on the island and yells out “like kids”. This statement shows that Piggy believes that he is superior to the boys on the island and believes that they should

In the book, The Lord of the Flies written by William Golding, when the book states, “What are we? Humans? Or animals? Or Savages?” (91), this quote shows the author is trying to give the message that in our society, we tend to act as humans, and at the same time, animals. For example, in December 1955 until December 1956, a woman named Rosa Parks had inspired many people to peacefully protest the lack of civil rights for the African Americans of her time by not riding the public buses because African Americans were forced to sit in the back of the bus; therefore, behind all of the white people. Rather than leading violent riots about the issue, she chose to find a peaceful solution, unlike white nationalists in Charlottesville, Virginia
The daily struggle of the working class, fear of loneliness and the reality of putting all your energy into plans that fail are the different themes relating to John Steinbeck's novel, "Of Mice and Men". The characters depicted by the author are individuals who are constantly facing one obstacle after another. The book illustrates different conflicts such as man versus society, man versus man, man versus himself and idealism versus reality. The book's backdrop is set in the Salinas, California during the depression. The two main characters include two men, George and Lennie. Supportive characters include a few ranch hands, Candy, Crooks, Curly, Slim and Carlson.
.The novel Of Mice and Men was written by John Steinbeck. In Soledad, California during the Great Depression in the 1930's two men of the one named George and the other named Lennie were men who travel around working at ranches. George is the small, quick-witted one, and Lennie is the big, slow, dumb and extremely strong one. They have a dream, to have a little place all to themselves, without anyone bothering them. Their dreams are shattered though, when Lennie, who doesn't know his own strength, gets in trouble. In the pursuit of love, happiness and the American dream, man becomes a victim of his own circumstances and discovers that the good life becomes impossible for humanity to obtain and contains many flaws. Lennie and George represents Cain and Able a biblical story who were two brothers searching for their elusive dream. In the story of Cane and Abel ,Cane was to take care of Able .Both brothers were to prepare and offering to God to receive His blessing. When God came to look upon that offering God asked Cane were is Abel .In curiosity and furiousness Cane asked God" Am I my brothers keeper?" Just like in the story of Cane and Abel ,George is Lennies keeper ,George is consistently watching over Lennie no matter where they go .In the story of Cane and Abel,Cane was furious with God because God had asked of his brother .Cane prepared his offering just for the fact of the knowledge that he was to receive blessings in return. Those who are more able should take care of those who are not able to complete tasks in life. But in order in being capabable of doing that one must have patience and faith in that matters and struggles that a person has to go throught with one other. In similarity Geor...

The following statement comes from the revenge story The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. Edmond Dantes or his other identity the Count of Monte Cristo thinks to himself:
The tragic novella Of Mice And Men was written by John Steinbeck and published in 1937. The text is set in the context of The Great Depression when the world was going the a global economic recession. The Great Depression began after the stock market crash on Wall Street which caused companies to lose billions of dollars, triggering unemployment to rise significantly. During The Great Depression, there were dust storms known as the Dust Bowls that destroyed the agricultural industry in California. Throughout The Great Depression, people were lonely and pessimistic. This context and flawed protagonists make this novella a tragic genre. Lennie and George, the protagonists, have an ambitious dream that
Civilization is the mask which enables the individual to hide his primitive nature. This quote said by William Golding, the author of Lord of the Flies, shows how many characters have developed and showed their true colors. The boys in the novel all started off as average young British boys, but being trapped on a desert island after a plane crash changed who they were. Through the book the mask of civilization is shown through Jack and Ralph and how not having one affects how they feel and act. Both boys, when away from civilization show their true colors when there is no mask to hide their savage like nature.

The reason for me choosing this specific sentence from the book is because it showed me that as life goes on, we will always need both the support and love from a person to keep us pushing through our everyday lives. This sentence means that before you can actually experience the feeling of being in love, you have to know the feeling of being loved by someone to actually get an understanding of what it means to love. It also shows that love is a key factor to the flow of life and it is well needed for people to survive.
