Lennie was a “a huge man, shapeless of face, with large, pale eyes, with wide, sloping shoulders” (2). He worked hard, but was always doing something wrong which caused trouble. One day Lennie’s actions ended up hurting him. This altered his life forever. Through the character of Lennie, John Steinbeck illustrates in Of Mice and Men how a character’s actions can cause shocking outcomes. From the initial beginning, readers can tell through Lennie’s actions that he was not a smart man, rather a mentally challenged individual. Lennie touched her hair and since he liked the way it felt, he grabbed on her hair and did not let go. Eventually, he killed her. Lennie knew he made a mistake; he said, “I shouldn't of did that. George’ll be mad” (92). Lennie felt shameful for his actions. George and Lennie previously made a plan to meet in the brush if something bad happened. Therefore, “Suddenly Lennie appeared out of the brush, and he came as silently as a creeping bear moves” (100). When Lennie came out with a stolen gun, George took it and killed Lennie with it. From this point forward, Lennie actions continued to get miserable. George could not take it anymore, therefore he killed him. If Lennie’s actions were blameless, none of this would have happened. Lennie would still be living, and he would own some land. Someday Lennie and George were hoping to “get the jack together and we’re gonna have a little house and a couple of acres an’ a cow and some pigs and -------” “An’ live off the fatta the lan’,” Lennie shouted. “An’ have rabbits” (14).
