In the story “Of Mice and Men”, by John Steinbeck. Lennie and George were the two main characters. George has always taken care of Lennie.Lennie was the very simple minded character. George and Lennie were both migrant workers. They would have to move from place to place because Lennie always messes things up by getting into trouble. Lennie and George have a big brother relationship. Having an older brother can often leave you to rely on them. Lennie and George have a big brother relationship because George tells Lennie what to do, Lennie tries to be like George and George gets frustrated with Lennie but still puts up with him. One reason why the characters Lennie and George have a big brother and little brother relationship because George

When someone cares for someone else they protect them even if it means hurting them in the end. In “Of Mice and Men” John Steinbeck tells the story of two migrant workers struggling to get by in life. One of the men, Lennie, is mentally ill and is constantly getting in trouble. He likes to touch soft things, even if he should not be touching them. Geroge, the other man, has to constantly take blame for Lennie’s actions. George’s relationship with Lennie is very meaningful yet dangerous at the same time. It is meaningful because George takes care of Lennie when no one else will, whenever Lennie gets himself into trouble George has to take the grunt of the outcome, and, in the end, George has to make a decision that not only affects his life but also Lennie’s, whether it is for the good or not.
The emotional symbiosis between George and Lennie helps each man. Lennie’s attachment to George is most strongly visible when Crooks suggests George is not coming back. Lennie is almost moved to hysterics and his fear does not quickly abate. George prefers to feign dislike for Lennie to Lennie’s face: “I could get along so easy and so nice if I didn’t have you on my tail” (7). When pressed, George reveals his true feelings for Lennie. “I want you to stay with me Lennie” (13). They stay together because “It’s a lot easier to go around with a guy you know” (35). Both men need and value their strong emotional relationship.
chance I get I’ll give you a pup” (p14) then he gets George to re tell
John Steinbeck wrote the play Of Mice and Men in 1937 (Steinbeck). It is a play about two ranch workers who do not have the best of luck. The two workers were named George and Lennie. George was a more small bodied man. His partner Lennie was a giant among average sized people. They are on the road going place to place working numerous jobs. Lennie has a learning disability. The two work hand and hand. George is there to keep Lennie out of trouble. Lennie in a way helps keep George together. Sometimes it gets difficult for the two but they always get through everything together. They both work hand and hand. George is the brains and Lennie is the muscle. Lennie is a very powerful man so he can do a lot of things normal men cannot do. George is Lennie’s only family or friend he’s all Lennie has in this world. In a way Lennie is all George has also. The two keep one another going throughout their long journey. They work together escape trouble together and keep each other pushing forward. In the end the only thing they have is each other. This story shows that no matter how different two people are they still can relate to each other. It also shows that no matter how independent one thinks he/she is someone can always help them with something (Steinbeck).
when he got in trouble at Weed. If George were not a good friend, he
The book opens with a lengthy description of where the beginning of the story takes place. We are then introduced to Lennie and George, and we soon learn that they are headed towards a Ranch to find work. We then learn of Lennie’s obsession with mice, and how his love for them always ends up with them dead, either to stress, or Lennie killing them himself. George is repulsed by this, but always knows when Lennie has one in his possession, which hints that the two have a very close relationship. It also becomes clear that Lennie suffers from some kind of mental illness, as he is forgetful, depends on George, and has the mentality of a child, however, the immensity of his disability isn’t known, as he is able to complete tasks that George asks him to do, such as collecting wood for the fire. Lennie’s disability also puts a lot of stress on George, which becomes clear in the first few pages. He is quick to snap on Lennie, but knowing of his disability, he is also quick to apologize, in his own way, of course.
“Of Mice and Men”, by John Steinbeck is a novel about the hardships of life and the importance of having other people around. The story is of two men trying to survive with one another in a world full of loneliness; their relationship is quite rare and strange. Lennie, a large bear, has a mental disability which causes him to be in a childlike state. George, a much smaller and more competent man takes care of both of them. Although they work for others on ranches, their dream is to get by on their own and live off the land. However, Lennie’s state causes conflict as they travel from job to job. Steinbeck uses clever ways in his novel to develop his theme and characters as the story progresses; both of these elements also help create a large
Lennie is a very large, and mentally disabled man. George often complains about having to take care of Lennie, but it can be seen through the story that George is very devoted to Lennie. George complains, "I could get along so easy and so nice if I didn't have you on my tail. I could live so easy and maybe have a girl;" (Steinbeck) but as Lennie often threatens to leave George alone, it can be inferred that George loves Lennie because he stays always rejects Lennie’s offer. George describes that, “Guys like us, that work on ranches, are the loneliest guys in the world...with us it ain't like that. We got a future. We got somebody to talk to that gives a damn about us.” (Steinbeck) George’s purpose in the story was to take care of Lennie. Lennie is what kept George going. George states that, men like them were lonely, but Lennie and him did not have to be because they had each other. This point is also expressed in Lennie’s quote, “Because I got you to look after me, and you got me to look after you, and that's why." Although Lennie is very dependent on George, the reader can also conclude that, in a way, George also needs
To have a strong relationship means to do anything for the one you love, even when the circumstances are not ideal. Loving somebody often comes with challenges, which is clearly presented in Of Mice and Men written by John Steinbeck. This author tells the story of George and Lennie, two men who have grown a brother-like bond throughout their time together. They stick together in a time where everyone else is alone and go along finding work so that someday they can achieve their dream together. The presence of a strong relationship is also found through another well known couple by the names of Romeo and Juliet, in a popular novel written by William Shakespeare. Romeo and Juliet are a dynamic duo on opposite sides of a seemingly never-ending
It is important to realize that the partnership that Lennie and George have inherent benefits as well as risks. Both characters possess different personalities;Lennie has a good heart, and is encouraging of George´s dream to own a farm, George a well educated, self disciplined person who happens to have survival skills. As I analyzed both characters, it has been noted that Lennie and George´s support of each other allow them to persevere through the tough times of the great depression. On paragraph 6 Lennie says, ¨But not us! An´ why?Because....because I got you to look after me,and you got me to look after you...¨ which indicates that they both benefit from each other´s support. George is supportive in a way that helps Lennie live through the depression since(as I mentioned earlier) is well rounded when it comes to surviving.
George and Lennie are very fortunate to have each other to lean on, to protect, to love and to cherish, many characters throughout the novel Of Mice and Men have no one and they tend to feel isolated and alone. With the friendship that Lennie and George share they indeed benefit from it in ways that one who finds themselves alone without anyone to depend on would. Given that Lennie and George have such a close bond they are able to be themselves around on another, Lennie doesn’t speak to the other migrant workers because he’s afraid he’ll say something stupid or make a mistake. With George, Lennie knows that even if he disappoints him, George will still accept him and forgive him.
another and create a safe sense of comfort . This bond that has been formed by this dream
The novella focuses on the dream shared by George and Lennie, which emphasizes upon their independence of other people other than each other. In this sense, they appear to be much more capable of fulfilling their American Dream than others. The reception to George and Lennie’s kinship further draws attention to the difference between the partners and the rest of the workforce, putting attention upon their desolated lifestyles and the social (or more appropriately, antisocial) lifestyles of the men of the day (Goldhurst 52). Steinbeck reinforces this idea through repetitive dialogue between the two characters, which stresses upon their relationship: “But not us! An’ why? Because…because I got you to look after me, and you got me to look after
The famed nurses study from Harvard found “Not having a close friend is as detrimental to your health as smoking.” Lennie and George’s friendship is necessary to keep the better for each other. Throughout the story, Lennie and George need each other and look out for one another no matter what. Lennie and George’s friendship and journey throughout the story symbolizes the struggles to achieve the American dream. Steinbeck, in the story Of Mice and Men, combines characterization and symbolism to prove friends do whats best for eachother.
