When comparing Oedipus Rex and OJ Simpson, both relay the idea that fate ultimately catches up to you through Oedipus’s downfall, Simpson’s story of murder, and the argument of controlling your fate. The fate of Oedipus ultimately catches up to him in the play, Oedipus Rex, by Sophocles. When discussing fate, it is important to link it to destiny. Your destiny is your outcome. It is said that if a god leads you, your fate is set in stone. Like the sun coming up in the morning, your fate will follow through. Oedipus was doomed from the beginning of his life, even after the extensive measures he performed. The use of fate is described as destined. This means it is not able to be controlled. Fate is predestined and you can do everything to avoid fate, but you will eventually be forced to face the lights.
