Is The Odysseus a hero, using modern day standards. Why or Why not?

I disagree with the question because he wants to save his own life. Odysseus doesn't care if his men die’s all he care about is his own. He would do anything to keep himself safe from any danger that come toward him. The modern day standards are you have to take care of yourself and your crew/men. So the modern day standards if you are in a bad area and they ask you, “Will you die for your crew for them to be safe or will you let them die to make you safe.” The modern people will die for their crew to remember him and what he did. But Odysseus will say let them die and let me safe.

So Odysseus blames everyone for the bad thing that happen to him, like when he was praying to the gods that the gods offer him sleep and then he overslept, and then blames the gods for not waking him up. When he was in the court and he said to the court that he is only using his men for his dirty work. So that tells us he doesn’t really care about anyone expect his wife and his kid. So, in the real world the leader takes care of his crew and makes sure he makes all the right moves so his crew does not die. …show more content…

Odysseus kept on talking to the Cyclopes and giving him the location of where they are so, his crew kept on telling him to stop and the Cyclopes threw a part of the hill at them, and because Odysseus kept on talking the Cyclopes almost got a hit of them and instead of stop talking he kept on talking to him.
