Emmit Smith announced his retirement February 3, 2005. It was a very emotional moment for Smith, who has played running back in the NFL for fifteen years (thirteen of those years for the Dallas Cowboys). As Smith announced his retirement tears began to flow down his face stating “It’s been a tremendous ride.” Over his career in the NFL, Smith has racked up many impressive statistics and awards. They go to class, and live like every other college student on campus. This differs very much from life in the NFL. While in the NFL players make millions of dollars, and become celebrities. Unlike college football players, NFL players don’t live like regular people. They usually live in mansions, and have an abundance of riches. Because of this, it is easier for fans to relate to college football players.

He was born into an upper-middle class family, one that went to the Methodist church every Sunday and both parents were well-respected in their fields.
