What I am most thankful for is getting professional mental health help and let me tell you why. I've had OCD since I was a little child but around the year 2015 it started to become unmanageable. My parents had divorced after many unhappy years and my mother met my stepdad. After awhile of dating, my family and me moved into my stepdad's house. Our new house was an hour and a half away from our hometown and loved ones. In 2016, my habits and thoughts become worse. During my second semester at ECOT, I fell weeks behind and could not catch up. I had to work over school breaks and into summer to get all my tasks complete. 2017 was the worst of all three years. I became extremely debilitated by my disorder and the other illnesses it triggered;
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a disorder which causes people to develop an anxiety when certain obsessions or compulsions are not fulfilled. OCD can affect both children and adults with more than half of all adults with OCD stating that they experienced signs as a child. People living with OCD display many obvious signs such as opening and closing a door fifty times because they have to do it “just right”. Others exhibit extreme cleanliness and will wash their hands or take showers as often as they can because they constantly feel dirty. OCD devastates people’s social lives as they are fixated and obsessed with perfection that can take forever to achieve. However people living with OCD are often found to have an above average intelligence and typically excel at school due to their detail oriented mindset, cautious planning and patience. OCD can be caused by many different factors such as genetics or the ever changing world a...
My sixteen week class in English 111. I was really nervous about this class. Because English has never been my strong point. This class has hard, but fun all at the same time. I learn a lot from this class. Meanwhile,the first day of class you handed a paper with a question on it. “The first thing I want to say to you who are students is that you must not think of being here to receive an education; instead, you will do much better to think of being here to claim one.” Even though putting my all in what I have learned, claiming my education with hard work because using the skills of the meal plan, as we write to different audiences and learning to be a Critically thinker as I start becoming a critically-Literate Citizenship.
OCD is both a common well-known disorder but still a mystery to all. OCD can be a challenging disorder to live with and isn’t easy to live a normal life. OCD can affect anyone, and while to most it’s just a simple recheck, to others it’s an obstacle that needs to be overcome.
I’m thankful for child labor reforms that were developed throughout history allowing me not to have to work in such harsh conditions. These reforms allow me to obtain an education to strive in society today.
...hope that diagnosis is found when the individual is still young and the symptoms will not worsen over time. Response of treatments varies in each individual and some studies suggest that medication and behavioral therapy are the most effective in relieving the symptoms of OCD (What is OCD?, 2014). While there is still a small percentage of individuals with OCD that neither medication nor behavioral treatment produces no significant change at all their symptoms. The combination of both methods has been found in several cases to be superior to either treatment on its own. Most individuals who have received effective treatments find that the symptoms are reduced drastically by 40% to 50%. That makes it enough to change their lives where upon they are to go back to school, work and their families. In other words they can become a functioning part of society again.
OCD can be a difficult thing to live with and a struggle for some. If you are someone who has OCD and don’t get treatment you should because it may save your life or just simply help you to be a happier person if this disease gets you down. With all that being said I encourage anyone who has it not to let this get you down and please get treatment.
...e not so much, but I can honestly say that I’m glad that I could overcome all of the troubles I endured these past few years. I’m grateful that I had the help of so many people to actually stay strong in everything I have been through. My grandmother having dementia, losing a childhood home, connecting with an absent father and overcoming mental illness have all made in huge impact in my life.
At the beginning of the year I was diagnosed with chronic depression, and anxiety. Medication was never a choice as my parents neglected my diagnoses and my thoughts on the subject. Luckily for me I wanted to be a psychology
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder doesn’t have a cure; it doesn’t just “go away”. It has its good days and it’s bad. I have overcome many of my physical symptoms with it; I don’t feel the need to save trash nor throw major tantrums as I had before. Although some symptoms have gone, I still face many mental and emotional symptoms everyday. I still struggle with anxiety in some crowds, random bouts of fear, lack of focus, loss of energy, etc. My disorder isn’t as severe as some people’s, but it’s still severe enough that I face it in my everyday
...serious life decisions that are very hard on them without OCD and those who have it becomes extremely more difficult. I believe more research should be done in trying to find a cause for OCD and research done to try and find a cure. If this can be done many young lives could benefit and be able to live the life they want and not the life forced upon them because of their disorder. Knowledge gaps that need to be filled are more recognition that OCD is a serious problem and can lead to many other things. As I stated earlier some people may not take it as serious that should and that just comes with education of the subject. In all I believe that OCD should get serious attention as not only a mental disorder but as a serious health problem. In the future I hope to see more effective prevention and intervention methods introduced to ease the pain of millions of patients.
Gratitude – you need to be grateful for good deeds done to you, and if possible pass those good deeds on to others.
...f becoming a better person! Thank you for all you give to me by just being in my life.
As I am progressing this step to becoming a man I am thankful for my mom. Throughout every step of the way she has been able to answer my questions about life in general. I look up to my mom as she is a strong woman that has been through alot in her life. My mom came from Mexico, leaving her family and everything she owned
I am grateful enough for everything that I get. My life would still be the same if I didn't see all of the things that I saw. I would probably be in the mindstate that I was in before thinking that a house and living on minimum wage is easy. This is what life would be like if I didn't see what I
