Nutcracker Ballet Research Paper

Beautiful, Boring, Ballet.

“The Nutcracker Ballet is known for its spectacle and its familiar music” (The World Book 2015 Encyclopedia Vol #14, 266). To some people the ballet is beautiful, but to others it is flat out boring. In this paper The Nutcracker ballet will be discussed and analyzed. Aspects from the boredom of instrumental music, repeated dances, length of the performance, to the beauty through costumes, romantic scenes and Christmas tradition that is famous and populer in the world.

THE BALLET

The original story, The Nutcracker, was written by a German man named Ernest Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann in the year 1816 (World Book 622). It was not written to be a story for children.Then a gentleman named Pyotr llyich Tchaikovsky wrote

There are other musical instruments that play repeatedly measures also. Some will even put you to sleep as if it was naptime. Historians that study the ballet said that “Some of the critics in those days complained that the music was too much like a symphony and not enough like a dance score, and that there were far too many children in the cast to please an adult audience”(Switzer 13). Children would be annoying to watch when attended for an adult audience. As for those of us that don’t understand the ballet or like classical music we would find it dull and unstimulating.The dancing seems to be the same steps over and over which is very tedious. There is no meaning behind the dance that can be recognized and some are confusing. The ballerina does not even appear until the second act . Also, some people feel that there is not enough of real dancing in the performance.Not really sure what the dances represented by different countries are or the different candy. The dancers were nothing out of the ordinary and lack the enjoyment of the dance

Nutcracker like the Christmas tree is recognized as a symbol of the story and the festivities surrounding it.Also, the giving of the Nutcracker is a gift to keep the home and family safe. The warm gathering of family and friends celebrating with a party. And don’t forget the romantic scene where the Nutcracker turns into a charming and brave prince fights the rat king and his army to save the girl from harm. CONCLUSION

Even though some find the contents beautiful and some still find it boring.The Nutcracker Ballet has become one of the most famous ballets of today. Especially around the Christmas season. (“Why has The Nutcracker remained so popular ? As the story explains, “If you love something very much, it is always alive” Pure love of this extraordinary story has kept the words alive for nearly two hundred years, so they can dance for you across these colorful pages” (Walden 5). There are many ballet schools that use the Nutcracker Ballet as a way to make money. Maybe it is because they have a family member dancing in it or it is a fundraising event. And of course we have a different outlook on the ballet The Nutcracker when little ones are performing .They see the cute costumes and beautiful scenes
