Good nurses show concern for patients by caring for them effectively and attentively to foster their well-being (Chen et al, 2015).
The purpose of the essay is to explore the range of attributes, values, and behaviours of a good nurse within the personal, professional, political and social context. The essay will focus on competence as behaviour and reflected from both theory and placements. In addition, comparison between the value, attribute and behaviour will be discussed in this essay.

Nightingale forming art of nursing which is knowledge that arrived from nursing experience of respect and skill arise from science and compassion (Sellman,2011). According to Hughes (2015) behaviour of nursing are compassion, respect, and calm under pressure, knowledge and communication to patients when caring for them. For example having deep awareness of and sympathy for someone else’s suffering without judgment is the root of compassion. The 6cs which consist of care, compassion, courage, communication, commitment, and competence has influenced on what makes a good nurse in the contemporary healthcare and highlights the need for nurses to have holistic idea of skills, knowledge, attributes and good attitude in order to become more competent as they encounter the challenges of current healthcare services.
