Growing up I had always wanted to be a nurse. I enjoy being around people in their times of need, and I get great satisfaction by serving those that need help. While in high school, I remember the time when I did some volunteer work for a hospital, and that is when I realized my passion for nursing. I believe that the cure for many of the people's ailments is not just in medicine, it is in the care that they receive as patients in hospitals and in their homes. I was born and raised in Nepal, which is ranked as one of the poorest nation on earth. So, for my thesis for associate degree, I researched on prevalent of iron deficiency among pregnant women in Nepal. The findings were pretty shocking, most of the iron deficiency related complications during pregnancy was simply due to lack of education about the importance of iron rich diet during pregnancy. After graduating with an associate degree in nursing, I joined one of the renowned hospitals in Nepal as a labor and delivery unit nurse. I was introduced to the profession as a nurse-midwifery, and found that it offered a wonderful means to provide direct-care to women and their families. After I moved to the U.S., I joined University of Massachusetts, Boston, to earn my Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. For my final year thesis, I researched on the importance of technology for nursing profession. My research concluded with the summary that, with the rapidly changing landscape of technology, it is very important for nurses to keep up with the technological changes to provide better care for the patients.
