Nursing is an occupation where many different individuals within a wide age range trust. Whether its children, teen, youth, adult, mature adults, nurses are there to help anyone with any condition. However, in order for one to be a nurse, they must learn the many different complex, detailed and difficult learning objectives within their study period. In NUR102, also known as Professionhood and Knowledge of Nursing I. Within this course, I learned the different nursing theorists that contribute to the nursing that is today. One of those theorists is Nightingale. This theorist focused on the different cultures existing in the world. Leininger taught me that culture is an extremely important factor in order to treat my patients sufficiently. She created the theory of “Culture Care Theory”. This theory defines as to know and understand different cultures to provide a sufficient nursing care towards different individuals who possess different beliefs and values. Within my clinical next semester and for the rest of the undergrad program, this particular theory will benefit me due to the fact that Canada is a multicultural country. Since I am taking my placements in Toronto, there will be many patients who possess a variety of cultures, who believes in different morals, who have different views in different areas. She developed the ways of knowing theory, which defines as the different patterns of knowing that form the structure of nursing knowledge. The aim of this theory was to demonstrate nursing knowledge and to provide effective nursing care. The different ways of knowing are ethics, personal knowing, aesthethics, empirics. With ethics, I am able to understand my patients and am able to resolve my problems by applying the correct principles. With personal knowing, I am able to control myself, my emotions, my problems and solve the problem right in front of me with less risk of stress and doubt. With aesthethics, I will be able to help my patient in any way possible, and having the understanding of knowing what to do with less thinking. With aesthethics as well, I am able to appreciate my patient and the care I am providing, and understand his/her situation in a more meaningful way. Finally, with empirics, I am able to understand the problem that caused my patient to feel vulnerable or the disease/sickness that my patient goes through. I am able to advise my patient to do certain things by knowing the scientific reasons behind the issue. All in all, NUR102 have taught me so many theories and how to apply it so that I can provide the best care for my patients. I am eternally grateful for this course for introducing me to many great theorists that shaped the nursing that is
