Personal Statement

1993 – A year that Latur, a small rural town in India can never forget and a year that became a turning point in my life. An Earthquake that brought a great deal of destruction resulted in over 10,000 deaths and leaving several thousand injured. Support poured in from across the world and as a 10th standard young child I decided to accompany my father to volunteer in medical relief teams. The scale and magnitude of distress and suffering, particularly to see the most vulnerable section of the society – elderly, women and children – touched me immensely. Struggling with challenges of inadequate medical infrastructure, facilities and resources we tried to give best possible care and support to help the injured and sick ride

I loved—and still love—the challenge of managing the dynamic physiological state of a patient with the application of quick critical-thinking and the ability to provide patient care in an intense critical care settings. During post-graduate work, I learned to administer anesthesia for a wide array of cases: pediatric, neurosurgery, obstetrics and gynecology, urology, orthopedics, and general surgeries. I became part of the perioperative management team in OTs and ICU’s and gained experience placing IV lines, laryngeal mask airways, intubations and most importantly bedside communication

I am exploratory and curious to learn new medical advancements and innovations in Anesthesia for the betterment of patient care. Although having graduated 15 years ago, my deep interest, inclination and personal drive has convinced me to consider for a residency program in the United States. I am determined to draw upon the vast resources of world’s best medical facilities provided in USA, clinical environment, scholarly activity and the mentorship of its brilliant faculty. The diverse didactic curriculum featuring workshops, simulation, case-based discussions will extrapolate my self-development and career in the field of
