Nursing is a profession I have always looked upon with respect. I believe that being a nurse involves providing person centred; support vulnerable people and ensuring their medical needs are fulfilled. Even though the role of a nurse can be challenging it can also be fulfilling and rewarding. I want to study adult nursing as I believe it will be lifelong learning experience and successful career working in the medical field.
I started developing my interest towards nursing when my mother was admitted to the hospital. From that day I became more interested in nursing as I was able to witness the impact that nurses have on their patients. I then became my mother’s carer until she recovered. This made me then realise what I wanted to become

The subjects that I have studied are; Psychology, Human Biology, Health Studies, Social Policy, Application of numbers, Information Communication Technology and Research. These subjects have given me grounding for my studies at university towards becoming a nurse looking after adults. For instance, Psychology-I learnt why humans act and react the way they do. Similarly, this links with Human Biology as they both acknowledge how people interact with others and the effect on people of their own environment. At University I look forward to gain more knowledge about how the human body works and how it can be treated when it becomes damaged. Health studies has shown me what nurses cope with in terms of their roles and it has also taught me the NMC code of conduct to help the nurses with their jobs. Information Communication Technology-I continued to studying ICT as everything now in modern society is computer based and Maths will help me with overall calculation. These subjects will enable me to succeed in practical work based as well as ensuring that I can achieve the academic required on nursing
I have always had a passion for nursing. As a child, I watched my mother getting up early, putting her scrubs on and headed out the door for a 12 hour shift. She was always content, and at ease to go for a long shift and even overtime at times. I love the fact that after work, she would always come home, satisfied with the day no matter how hard it was for her. She would sit and tell my brothers and sisters how she enjoyed the conversations that she had with her patients and what impact she had on their lives that day. Listening to these stories as a child, I knew that I wanted to become a nurse and listening to the same stories and helping people, making their day feel better. I wanted to follow my mom’s footsteps. At the end of a long shift, it is a rewarding profession, knowing that I am saving people’s lives, making them comfortable when they are near of dying, advocate and teaching them. As nurses, we care for patients through illness, injury, aging, health. We also promote health, prevent diseases and teaching the community; that’s what I love about nursing. I believe that this is the right profession for me because I have all the qualities that a nurse should possess when
Earning a Bachelor’s Degree deals with the coursework of basic nursing principles, biology, nutrition, chemistry, anatomy, and psychology. It is easier if you rotate these courses between semester work-study and summer work-study. You may include various clinical settings, which will make your resume look good by taking those courses within the clinical setting.
A week before Christmas in 2013, my stepfather suddenly lost consciousness. His body stiffened and he began to violently convulse – he was having a seizure. Later in the hospital, the doctors informed us that my stepdad had suffered a hemorrhagic stroke. The anguish that I felt that night was eased by a nurse who talked to my family about my stepfather’s condition and assured us that the hospital would do everything that they can to assist him with recovery. The next few weeks were filled with uncertainty as my stepdad laid comatose, no knowledge of when or even if he would wake up. During that time, my interactions with the nurses always made me feel safe and comforted Unfortunately, he passed away in January 2014. Though this was a traumatic and life altering experience, what I remember most are the nurses that provided care to my stepfather. They went above and beyond their outlined job duties to care for my loved one and to make my family feel secure even in such a difficult time.
Nursing came in a round-about way for me. I had little direction when I graduated high school and had already disregarded the nursing field due to an incident with a family member (who was a nurse) that had left a negative impression about the nursing field on me. I entered college planning on a pre-med or biology major. I had built up a vision of college being different- scholarly, intellectual, advanced- different somehow than school before. I soon was disillusioned. My first biology course was a bitter disappointment and I turned away from any thoughts of a medical/health related career altogether.
Nursing is considered the backbone of the healthcare system. This career is an excellent career for me. I like to help people, and work that is somewhat challenging.
When I first decided to come to college for nursing after staying in university for three years, I had an argument with my parents because they were not happy with my decision. My parents just wanted me to finish rest of my degree and they thought that it did not make sense to go to college for diploma, and not complete the university degree. However, I just wanted to complete my nursing diploma in the same amount of time that I can finish my degree in the university because I always wanted to be a nurse.
I am enticed to choose nursing as my career by its varied and challenging nature within an educational setting. The responsibilities of the profession involves, but are not limited to, comforting, caring, testing and assessing, and behavioral intervention.
I believe that Nursing is a profession that is unique to the individual. My reasons for choosing such a profession is due to the fact that I have a desire to help others. Growing up with a very sick parent of whom I traveled back and forth over the years to many physician offices, lead me to develop my career path at an early age which was nursing. I watched the many doctors and nurses providing care to my mom in such a compassionate way, and as a result of the kindness they showed my sibling and me, I was very much aware this was as some may say, “my calling”. I had a conversation with my mom and told her that one day I was going to be a nurse so that I could care for her in the same manner that I saw the nurses and physicians caring for her. I wanted to
The beauty of nursing is it allows me to travel whilst still working in the health care environment. As well as exploring different cultures, I could provide care to individuals of countries where health care is not accessible. Nursing will allow me to explore the world whilst fulfilling a rewarding career. Additionally, friends and family have always encouraged I study nursing. Throughout my life, people have commented on my caring nature and suggest nursing would be a perfect career for me. I agreed, as I enjoy caring for others whether they are a friend or a stranger. Therefore, nursing for individuals would bring joy to me. A final factor that influenced my decision is the understanding I will gain of the anatomy and physiology of the human body. The function of the human body has always interested me, as human life depends on it. Nursing allows me to enlighten people of the wonders of the human body. These factors and attributes influenced my decision to study
Being accountable to me as a professional is saying yes to the call and responsibility we have to bear out. It is a responsibility we take for ourselves and for others who rely on us to be present in any situations. The mission requires an openness to relationship with others. The consistency of performing at a higher level each time the job is done and strive to give all for the greatest good. In collaboration with others involved. That bond can strengthen when everyone involved intersect their effort to the same purpose. The skills acquired over the years as a bedside nurses give me an opportunity to be dependable and trustworthy. Knowing what to do in difficult situations and being intuitive is a plus. It can help in a managerial position

It’s been my desire, longing for a nursing career since I was in my primary and secondary school. At the age of 12, I began to look after children and baby-sitting then, from there, I gained the understanding of how to deal with children. Nursing is one of the highly demanding careers that bring new challenges every day and it comes with various rewards and a real sense of job satisfaction. I chose nursing because it is a profession where you never really finish learning. It has been my dream job since my tender age. My studies of Bachelor Degree in nursing will provide the knowledge I need to be successful in my nursing career. In my previous experience in college, I learned basic knowledge and the necessary skills to work in a healthcare environment as a nurse. A nurse has a lot of specialties, each with its own challenges and achievements. For example, while I was in my internships for registered nurse, I discovered that I love to work with elderly people. Then, I choose to work in home health care, to provide professional and emotional support for those who care for us for many years and now need our understanding, love, and excellent patient care. My first experience was to work in a nursing home, assists patients with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, transfers and ambulation, some of the fundamental tasks a nurse must know. Even though I confessed I was nervous because my professor was beside me evaluating my basic nursing techniques, I enjoyed the fact that I was helping the patient to feel comfortable and secure with my care. Later, during my nursing career I felt confident about my performance as a nurse. I learned that one
Adult Nursing is a very rewarding career which provides endless opportunities. I would describe myself as a caring and compassionate person. I believe I possess these qualities naturally. I am compelled to put other people’s needs before my own. I can contribute my personal qualities to this course of being dedicated and determined into committing myself to this 3 year course and excelling academically. Personally, caring for my mother with high blood pressure made me interested in the world of medicine.
