Performance improvement has allowed nurses at health department to change the way they practice by focusing on accomplishing the goals that are set to improve patient care. Nurses who are currently working with tuberculosis patients, could attain one goal of finding all family and friends who have encounter with newly tuberculosis patient prior to diagnosis. The achievement of this goal is to ensure tuberculosis diseases is not transmitted to the community. Staff nurses are fully aware, the idea behind performance measurement is to improve patients’ outcomes, from previous months and when results are compared with benchmark. Nurses has responded and implement different initiatives to maximize the contribution that nurses can make when adapt to evidence based practice. Nurses have initiate adaption of practice, education and changes in nursing curriculum. Part of a nurse leadership training included quality assurance, that focus on improving patient quality of care, improving patient safety and staff safety. It is very important for a nurse leader to create an environment that employee’s feel supported and not threated to report incident. The incident reporting can be reinforced by providing employee’s mandatory yearly training. Health department can reduce employee’s injuries by working closely with an occupational health nurse to develop and implement safety procedures to prevent injuries at workplace. Performance improvement is the process of achieving the highest patient care quality, by following standards of care and performance measured that are set by the office of health care quality, Center for Medicaid and Medicare (CMS), and State regulations. Each individual nurse is held accountable to implement performance measure goals. Nurses utilized performance improvement program by comparing their patient data from current month to previous months towards the set goals of performance improvement. The results are communicated each month at the quality improvement meeting, and any changes are made to improve patient care.
