Nurse Practitioners in Neonatal care are extraordinary individuals, who have studied hard, invested emotionally, worked alongside with doctors, saved many babies, and comforted those families who had to let their babies go. I have had my own personal experience in which I came into close contact with several of these kinds of nurses. With my personal experience, I have discovered this is the kind nurse I want to become. According to NANN, National Association of Neonatal Nurses, states that "Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (NNP) are advanced practice nurses who work with the physicians and nursing staff to provide comprehensive critical care to the infants in the NICU." (Is) In my research in becoming a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, I looked into the history of the role, my personal experience, educational requirements, schools, the workplace environment, salary, and responsibilities. Although nurses have worked with infants for well over 100 years, the Neonatal Nurse Practitioner title did not come until the 1970s. In Farah, Bieda, and Shiao 's article, The History of the Neonatal Nurse Practitioner in the United States, the authors discuss that in the late 1970s, there was a shortage of medical staff, particularly pediatric physicians, in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. …show more content…

I wanted to fill my time and what better way to do that then by bettering myself. With starting this new journey, I knew I would finally pursue my dream of becoming a Registered Nurse. I also knew that I wanted to pursue more than just my Registered Nurse, R.N., license; I wanted to have an advanced career. A month into my second semester, it was the one-year mark of Patrick 's passing.
