In Shakespeare’s classic play Romeo and Juliet, the Nurse and Lady Capulet are foils to each other because they have drastically different characteristics. While the Nurse is calm, funny, and warm-hearted, Lady Capulet is a serious cold-hearted person. In this play, it is possible to see that because of their different personality and characteristics, they act completely different when facing the same situation. When the audience first meets the Nurse and Lady Capulet, Act 1 scene 3 they are in a room discussing Juliet’s marriage. In this scene, Lady Capulet orders the nurse to find Juliet so they can discuss Juliet’s marriage. At this moment, even though it is an important subject, the Nurse keeps telling jokes, while Lady Capulet is very
serious and in the end becomes uncomfortable with Nurse’s jokes. After, in Act 3 scene 5, there is a moment in which Juliet tells her mother, Lady Capulet that she refuses to marry Paris, which made her mad at Juliet. In this scene, Lady Capulet and her husband punish Juliet without even listening to her. However, once they leave the room the Nurse runs towards Juliet to comfort and calm her. After this scene, it is clear that the Nurse is more of a mother to Juliet that Lady Capulet herself. Finally, during the whole play, the Nurse helps Juliet with her love Romeo even though he is a Montague, the enemy of the Capulets. Because the Nurse deeply cares about Juliet, she helps arranging the marriage between her and Romeo. On the other hand, Lady Capulet cannot stand the idea that her daughter, a Capulet, would be marrying Romeo, a Montague, and would never allow that to happen even if that is what her daughter wants. In conclusion, it is evident that the Nurse and Lady Capulet are very different from each other. The Nurse is funny and caring, while Lady Capulet is serious and selfish, especially when it comes to protecting her own image. During the entire play, they act as foils to each other specially when Juliet is involved in the discussed matter.
William Shakespeare's play, Romeo and Juliet, is set in Verona,Italy in the 14th century. It is about two families in Verona that are in a feud. One of the main characters, Juliet Capulet, is taken care of by her nurse, Angelica. Juliet trusts Angelica with all the news about Romeo. She plays an important role in Juliet’s life. " Lady Capulet shows a very different love for her daughter to the love which Nurse shows her, she has hardly looked after Juliet for much of her life, and is distanced from her. Impatience kills In “The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet” by William Shakespeare, two very young people fall in love but cannot be with each other because of the feud between their families. The feud ends when Romeo and Juliet both kill themselves because of heartbreak over the other. The minor characters Mercutio, Tybalt, and Friar Lawrence serve as foils to Romeo, to help support the theme of patience. While Romeo is impatient and makes rash and hasty decisions, Friar Lawrence is careful and takes time to consider his actions. First Romeo thinks that he is in love with a nun named Rosaline, but a couple hours later he is asking the Friar to marry him to another girl she had just met.

As we learn in towards the beginning of the story Juliet is the last child of the Capulet line, and as a result her mother also puts pressure on Juliet for having a two year engagement with the Prince. Nurse obviously seems to be closer to Juliet, than her biological mother. In Romeo and Juliet, to what extent is the Nurse to blame for the tragedy?

Even though The Nurse may be a servant in the Capulet household, The Nurse has a far more superior role to an ordinary servant. This is seen in Act 1 Scene 3 when Lady Capulet sent The Nurse out and she immediately calls her back in as The Nurse knows Juliet so well. The relationship between The Nurse and Juliet is so strong that The Nurse knows Juliet better than her own mother; this is shown in Act 1 scene 3 when Lady Capulet does not know the age of her daughter.

This fundamentally leads to the outcome of Romeo and Juliet, with each weakness presenting a conflict that alters the characters fate. Being especially true with the star-crossed lovers, William Shakespeare leads their perfect love into tragedy with these conflicts. In Romeo and Juliet, Juliet, Friar Lawrence, and Tybalt all contribute to conflicts that enhance the plot. From destructive flaws in their characterizations, Juliet, Friar Lawrence, and Tybalt are all consequently controlled by their weakness, therefore affecting the outcome of the play.

To add to the issue, the Nurse later betrays Juliet when Juliet begs her for help. “I think you are happy in this second match, For it excels your first, or, if it did not, Your first is dead, or 'twere as good he were, As living here and you no use of him.” (3.5.226-238). The Nurse goes against her previous actions and expects Juliet to forget about Romeo by dispraising him. Juliet wants to remain faithful to her husband and this betrayal, along with Capulet’s ultimatum, causes Juliet to act hastily and want to die if she wasn’t with Romeo.
At the Capulet feast, Romeo and Juliet’s first kiss is interrupted by the nurse, who warns that he is the only son of her family’s worst enemy. The contradictory ideas of “only love” and “only hate” are expressed in a paradox that signifies the grave consequences of Juliet’s love.

Romeo and Juliet are both deceptive to their parents when they do not tell them about their marriage. They then continue to lie, Juliet telling her parents she would marry Paris when she secretly arranged to fake her death and Romeo deceiving Friar Laurence by going back to Verona.
