When it comes to the discussion of the best romantic comedy movies of all time, Notting Hill is never at the bottom of the list of some of the famed Hollywood hits. It is a classic romantic movie yet with a rare tempting storyline directed by Roger Michell and the legendary screenwriter Richard Curtis. Notting Hill was a follow up to his 1994 masterstroke Four Weddings and a Funeral. The 1999 hit was played by Julia Robert as Anna Scott, an American top movie star and Hugh Grant (who also previously starred in Richard Curtis’s hit Four Weddings and a Funeral) as William Thacker, a shy and goofy owner of a small travel bookstore. Their romance sparks when Anna and William faithfully met in his bookstore whilst she was wandering around in the …show more content…
bustling city of Notting Hill. The two’s awkward encountered had thrown William’s ordinary existence into a romantic chaos that blossoms into a full-blown affair. As the mediocre chap and the world’s famous star draw closer to each other, they struggle to conciliate and thrive their love due to their utterly different lifestyles. Richard Curtis and Roger Michell had contrived Notting Hill into an exceedingly romantic movie with a luring heartfelt quality and an unrealistic, yet aspiring romance between a movie star and a civilian.
Its unique storyline appeal to the majority of young adults on account of the mass media generation whereby many fantasize to be in a romantic affair with famous movie stars and celebrities. In addition to that, the romcom still proceed its comic quality with hilarious script lines and slapsticks, particularly the performance of supporting character Spike (Rhys Ifans), William’s kooky roommate. Most of his scenes were shots of him only wearing underwear and making sexual jokes, creating laughter and comic relief to the audience. Hugh Grant’s character, Will also possesses a silly take on the film with his awkward and overly British-ness charm that add cloying and cuteness to his romance. It is so realistic that we all forgot that Hugh Grant play almost the same character throughout his entire career. If you needed a couple of hours of some sweet romance that will make your heart woes and laugh your stress off then you must see this movie. You will be immersed in a 2 hour wind-whirled romance and escapism that makes you think everything is possible. It is one of those films that makes you want to fall in love with someone right after and have the same romance as it is shown in the
movie.
Some actors in this movie do a good job of portraying their character. However, a few take away from the overall experience, such as Tony Ross and Claudia McNeil. Tony Ross, who is an actor known for Pancho Villa, plays Stacey Logan. Claudia McNeil was an actress known for her role in Raisen in the Sun, and she portrays Big Ma. Both of these
One of the main products of this movie that popped out to me was the stars. They all seemed to be great actors even though I only knew one of them. For example, I thought that Ian Michael Smith did a great job portraying Simon Birch. He made the movie cute and funny all at once. I also thought that Joseph Mazello did a great job portraying relatable feelings in the movie. You could tell by his facial expressions what his mood was. All the actors did a great job and I can’t pinpoint one of them who did worse than the
The future is yet to come, but past is what we learn from. The present is what we have become. All the formal students (alumni) have work so hard to keep the Scotlandville family alive and going over the past years. Most do not look at the bigger picture and the history of the present, therefore, presented to you are the historical facts of Scotlandville as a whole for future awareness.
When they are all together, it is movie magic! The dialogue and emotions that are so perfectly portrayed by all, will only leave you wanting more. Some of the gossip sessions are very dramatic and will bring you to tears, but some are so funny you’ll want to pee your pants. As Truvy states in the movie, “laughter through tears is my favorite emotion” and this movie delivers
The movie is, most likely, done well enough to intrigue its intended audience. It captured the theme and story line of the book. It falls short, though, when compared to the beautiful, sensitive and contemplative prose of Natalie Babbitt. One could only hope that a viewing of the film will lead the watcher to try the book and be delighted all the more.
movie that is loosely based on historic events in Scotland. All the performances were great
Moreover, it is a palatable film. It offers a few solid laughs and will provoke some smiles; it’s a fairly typical, unremarkable comedy. While the original film had the breaking of racial stereotypes in mind, this updated version has it more in mind to have fun with them for the sake of the comedy. It is a romantic comedy that touches upon race relations following a fairly well established story-line. I would say that the one redeeming value of the film is the message of "seeing people, not color."
...and the prince behind. This movie from afar seems like a different type of romance movie, but more analysis into it and there are noticeable similarities many with other movies.
With the help of superb editing, sound, mise en scene, and cinematography, this film cannot be topped. The fist scene of the movie creates an atmosphere that helps the viewer know that he/she will enjoy this wonderful classic. Throughout the movie there are surprises and fun that makes this a movie that people will want to watch again and again. Gene Kelly said it best when he said, "Dignity, always dignity. " That is what this movie has from beginning to end, dignity.
Fortuitously, the movie has turned out to be one of the best motion pictures of the year. Once again, Clint Eastwood surprises us all with his work as a film director. He gives the audience a chance to consider life from another viewpoint. The movie makes one think about what he or she has achieved in life and Maggie shows us that it is never too late to have a dream fulfilled. After all, this is why we are actually born and live to fulfill our dreams.
I have to disagree with both of these reviews. I believe that the story was brilliantly written and the cinematography was beautiful. This movie touched me and had me in tears, which believe me is hard to do. I do agree with the New York Times and New Yorker that it was a little dragged out and that Kiera Knightly's acting was over rated. Other than that, I would defiantly recommend this movie.
...amily she finds the true meaning of being brave and saves her family (“Brave”). I like this kind of movie instead of a man being the brave and independent one now the woman is. These are the kind of fairy tales that need to be told so that women do not feel the need to be weak and dependent on other people. If fairy tales slowly become more realistic then I think they are a good thing but teaching women to not be strong or if their not a size 0 and gorgeous, well that in my eyes is not okay.
The love and the tension between the two characters is very nicely potrayed. The romance is not only shown with the two characters in the film but is seen in every single of the sumptous well crafted frames in the film. May it be the lamp at the end of the street where boodles are sold, or the couple staring at each other while coming up or down the stairs, or the dingy small corridor where they keep meting or the sight of rain through the light of a lamp create an atmosphere of romance with a sense of longing that exists between the couple. From cigarette smoke to droplets of rain, from noodle steam to the grill of a small metal fan every scene is just so picturisque. This movie for me was a play of pure emotion.
The movie is a very moving, sensitive and emotional story of redemption. The tale of how a young heartless thug can change into a softhearted guardian. This demonstrates that despite the poor living conditions, awful events and how heartless someone may seem. You can adapt to your surroundings and situations, you can also transform your life. Everyone has good in them you just choose whether to value it and utilize it or not appreciate it and discard it.
I’ve seen a lot of films, and with a lot of different genres. But I don’t think that romantic films are pretty good. They are too boring. The good films are action or comedy films, but the best films are action and com-edy films mixed together. That’s why I’ve chosen the film Taxi 2. It’s a French produced film, with a lot of action and comedy. It’s a pretty new film, and I saw it in the cinema last month. I’ve looked very much forward to see that film, because Taxi was very good too. It took only 5 weeks to get 10 mil-lion Frenchmen into the cinema. Just for watching Taxi 2.
