Robert Frost’s Poems As A Whole Robert Frost as a Poet has many secret meanings held within his writings this is how he describes his view into life. One of his poems “Nothing Gold Can Stay” Starts off by talking about the wonderful colors of spring, and “Nature’s first green is gold.” Eventually all things come to an end and whither away. The golden flowers that bloom don't stick around for long as they turn green and become leaves. This poem has an allusion to “The Fall of The Garden of Eden” as well as our own lives. Just like the flowers subside, or degrade to leaves, Eden also sinks into destruction. Mending Wall gives the reader a questionable answer on why they have fences in between their own homes with neighbors. The poem starts out by telling the reader that something is amiss in the countryside, “Something there is that doesn't love a wall”. He and his neighbor must get together every spring to walk the whole length of the stone wall that separates their properties, and to fix places where the wall has crumbled. The speaker begins to question the need for walls. He grows apples and his neighbor grows pine trees. His neighbor says that "good fences make good neighbors." It becomes a bit mischievous in the spring weather, and wonders if he can try to make his neighbor reconsider the wall. Some argue that it is simply a description of a man appreciating nature. Others would tell you that there is a darker and heavier meaning inside, and that the poem is about death. There are those who take it a step further and say that this poem addresses suicide. Nature-lovers see it as a piece that trumpets nature and that scorns civilization (take that, civilization!).
