Not so Perfect Red Sox

Not many people know that racism was actually a huge part of Red Sox history. Sadly, the Red Sox were one of the last teams to sign a black player. In fact, there are some more recent examples of racism in Fenway. Racism has always been a problem.

From the day the Red Sox were founded, racism was present. The Red Sox didn’t even have a black player on the roster until 1959! The Sox were the last team to have a black player on the team. Strangely enough, in 1947, the Red Sox organization gave a tryout to the legendary Jackie Robinson to see if they wanted to draft him. However, this was just a stunt to please a councilor that pressured the Sox to draft a black player.
