Iam Burdened with a glorious purpose; Norse Values and stories. Few cultures have worked its way into our everyday life. Stan Lee’s Comic book universe portrays Several Norse gods and in most of the Marvel movies we have seen are centered around them. The Vikings were very savage people who worshiped numerous gods and went and took villages and everything in it for themselves. The Viking people did have some morals and values regardless of their ways. In the Norse creation myth of “Odin and Ymir” Justice, Magic and Family are portrayed as core values of their society.
The value, Justice can be seen in the Norse creation myth when Ymir is killed. Ymir was the first of the frost giant, but not a god. He over time turned to evil, causing

In the creation myth we see that is a main human family that is mentioned in the story. It tells of a father and his children, Sol and Moon. We also are told of the gods family circle. Not only are the human family is mentioned but also the god's family (Sturluson). Family was mentioned from the beginning of time. We saw the bond and how important family ties were. Also this is portrayed in.the “Death of Balder” Balder's mother was told that he would be brought down, and with this information she went around the realms making treaties to protect her son. Loki disguised himself and went to Frigg and asked her how she knew no one would be able to kill Balder. Frigg told him what she had done, and also mentioned that the only thing she had not taken care of was the planet that held mistletoe. She had not considered such a small thing taking out her son. Loki took this information and made a sword of Mistletoe and had Balder's blind brother throw it at him (McCoy,236). Frigg went around making sure her son would not die. She went to every realm and asked the people of each not to harm him, except one. When Loki found this he ended Balder's life, causing much grief in the lives of Odin and Frigg while they mourned the loss of her son. Furthermore, we can go back to Loki's Punishment where as Loki is chained to the cave his wife, Sigyn holds a bowl over his head as long he is in his imprisonment to catch the venom from a snake the Valkyrie put over his head to make him suffer (McCoy,259-260). The loyalty to family is seen as Loki’s wife sigyn stays by his side after everything he has done, after their sons were killed because of him, yet she remains loyal to him. This demonstrates how loyalty to family is important to the gods and how highly they value one
The god they worshiped above all gods was Òõinn, who was the head of all gods and is said to be the father of many of the gods (Gunnell 357). The Vikings believe that Òõinn sits in a high chair where he can watch over the whole entire world with his huge eye. They also believe that he is who breathes the first breathe into the first humans. The Vikings say that Òõinn is very popular with the warriors, which the Vikings consider themselves being, but they also mention that they aren’t sure if Òõinn wants those warriors’ dead or alive (Gunnell 358). The reason the Vikings say this because there are stories that mention the warriors alive and dead. The alive warriors are fighting battles for Òõinn and protecting him. The dead warriors are also preparing for a battle, a battle way more intense than the alive warriors ever fought. The battle of Ragnarok, which is the last battle at the end of the world. The Vikings also connect the living and the dead with the factor of Òõinn only having one eye, they believe that he has one living eye and one dead eye (Gunnell
...e Siegfried and Gunnar. These two characters both share many of the same qualities, including physical strength, powerful weapons, good looks, attractive wives, and most importantly, arrogance and pride. As the strong male figures in their respective stories, Siegfried and Gunnar both appear to be heroes. Even with their heroic qualities and powerful weapons, they both fall prey to their hubris and fail to fulfill their potential as heroes of their stories. In stories such as The Nibelungenlied and Njal’s Saga, the identities of the heroes and villains are not always clear. This is relevant because in modern society, good and bad often depend what side you are rooting for. An attack on the World Trade Center towers can be considered terrorism or martyrdom, depending on your perspective. Heroes and villains, good and bad, always depend on whoever is observing them.

He receives the praise of his peers, and is well respected. What could turn a man like this to villainous ways? Only his own ambition, his own pride could have drawn him down the whole dark path. But something, or someone, must have egged him on.
Not only is Loki a trickster, but he is also famous for his shapeshifting, meaning he is “able to take on the appearance of whatever chose” (McLeish, par. 2). Shapeshifting is an ability that few of the Norse...
She also trusted everyone. She trusted a little too much. She told Loki (who was in disguise) about this one plant that she had overlooked. She loved Balder and trusted all the gods not to put him in harm. They tested it, they threw stones and shot arrows at him which always hit the ground before they got near him. But Loki was jealous of Balder because every one loved him so much. So Loki set out to find the mistletoe. He was so jealous that he wanted Balder dead. His jealousy over took him even though he was a god. He set out and found the mistletoe without any trouble; he then came back to where all the gods were testing out Balder by throwing things at him. Loki found Balder’s blind brother and told him that he should be respectful and throw something at Balder too. So because of Loki’s jealousy he helped the blind brother aim the mistletoe at Balder and throw it. It killed Balder instantly. Even though every one knew that Loki had done it, because they had lost the one that they loved they were too sad to do anything about it. Frigg thought that she had made sure of Balder’s safety even though she had overlooked this one small plant. Because Frigg trusted Loki she told him about that plant, she never thought that he would have killed Balder.
In all stories and movies, there a set number of different archetypes. In a sentence, heroes contribute to the society's necessary business of reproducing itself and its values. For most of history, religion has been the main force of reproducing the dominant society's traits by using mythical figures to
The Vikings have garnered attention over the years not only for their raiding and trading, but also for the Paganist gods and religion. Similar to many other ancient civilizations, the Vikings leave behind many myths containing tales of their gods and their beliefs. Marvel’s 2011 film Thor serves as an introduction to Norse gods and mythology, but it does fall flat in term of accuracy and detail in certain areas. Despite various large and small-scale changes to its overall plot and characters, Thor has been well-adapted to portray Norse myths as best as possible within an existing Marvel franchise.
In the post strip Odin tells Shadow how the gods went to America long ago but came back to Reykjavik because they could not survive there. The gods couldn’t survive in America because when the battled in Asgard (A place where all the gods live) destroyed the world; it changed how people looked at gods. So when Odin said that to Shadow he meant that the world outside Reykjavik does not think about the gods the same way they did before the battle. So in the sense of the hero’s journey the gods were victorious against the evil forces but the aftermath of the battle changed the humans view of
At Ragnarok Loki compiled an army of giants and his offspring to destroy Asgard. He was successful in destroying Asgard but he was killed by Heimdall in the process (McCoy). It was the goal of Loki to plunge the universe back into chaos and at Ragnarok, he was

Primarily a land based religion that places a large amount of emphasis on the sanctity of different locations and their involvement with the gods, elves, and with the Vikings themselves, Heathenism places a great deal of emphasis upon the power of sacred spaces. These sacred spaces can be created by humans as well as be found naturally throughout the lands that the Vikings inhabited. Some natural examples of sacred spaces include those associated with elves and other magical creatures in Iceland as well as the breathtaking location known as Helgafell which is mentioned in the Erybyggja Saga and is said that, “on a clear day it is as if one stood upon a stage sat in the famous seat of the god Odin overlooking the whole rich world of land and
They are the ones who support their children during those life decisions. Family is not always blood related. Finally, family is forever, family will never go away. Support is a massive part of the family. Family watches their kids and other family members fail and succeed all the time.
Out of the numerous commodities and resources that are scarce on the planet in which we inhabit a family, or even a family system, can never be parallel to even an iota of them. This is due to the fact that everyone, no matter what age at what time period of their life, has a family. That family may not be the cookie cutter family that society imposes on the media world. People develop without knowing their family, people create new families of their own, or they can even find something or someone to call family because of this family will never be scarce. Family is an objective concept to every single person and the definition varies significantly from being as simple as the smallest of toys to as complex as a group of people interconnected
