When faced with a parentless child, what is the best possible outcome? Ideally, the child would be adopted by a man and woman in a happy God-centered marriage. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. The family setting has changed drastically from what it was even a hundred years ago. Today, adoption in the United States can be completed within a traditional family setting as well as a non-traditional family. What it comes down to is what is best for the child. Any adult living in florida, who is of good character and is able to provide and take care of a child can adopt. Those adopting can be single, married, a stepparent of the child, disabled, gay, an individual, a couple (Consumer), young, old, financially well-off or of modest means, already a parent or not a parent (Florida). Before the adoption can be processed, a home study has to be done by licensed clinical social workers and mental health professionals to make sure the environment will be safe and good for the child (Consumer). This is the traditional family setting and the best environment for a child to be raised in. According to a study by Princeton University and the Brookings Institution, "most scholars now agree that children raised by two biological parents in a stable marriage do better than children in other family forms across a wide range of outcomes" (Goldberg). According to MIT, boys especially tend to benefit most from being raised in traditional family (Goldberg). Unfortunately, adopted kids don’t do as well in school as biological children do (Goldberg). One could argue that adopted kids placed in a traditional family setting would fare better than children placed with a single parent or a gay couple.
