Non-profit organizations have always been part of the so-called "social sector" to address social problems such as hunger, vagrants, environmental pollution, drug abuse and domestic violence. Another function is to provide basic social services that cannot be fully supplied by the market economy, such as education, arts, and health care. Nonprofit and voluntary type organizations play a major and integral role in American society. Each group exists today because they were established with the desire to help those in need by providing products, good and services. In the article “Toward Nonprofit Reform in Voluntary Spirit: Lessons From the Internet”, the authors stated the that nonprofit and the voluntary sector can include professional, the paid nonprofit, and grassroots organizations (Brainard & Siplon, 2004, p. 435). Even though these organizations may have the same or similar structures, I will compare and contrast the economic and political difference and similarity between the two.

The American "civil society" is one that has been produced through generations of experiments with government policy, nonprofit organizations, private partnerships, and individuals who have asserted ideas and values. Individuals can make bad choices simply because they are unaware of the ethical complexities of their actions, and not out of maliciousness. Over the years, my fiancé has observed several additional situations of ethical dilemmas related to funding in non-profit management. These dilemmas are issues that all nonprofit leaders, governing boards, and donors should be aware of; they can occur at any moment. When deciding on which non-profit organization to give resources to, a person must think of a number of questions that need to be answered in which to choose a certain one. The most pertinent of these questions is the one that asks which cause the person cares about the most. The problem, for a majority of the population, is that they just do not know what they truly care about. That is why the United Way is the best option for donations. The United way does not focus on one specific, but instead works for a variety of different causes focused on fixing some of the different problems inside of the United States. The United Way is an organization, which envisions a world where all individuals and families achieve their human potential through education, income stability and healthy lives. People are often confused between social entrepreneurship and other forms of organizations such as non-governmental organizations or traditional for-profit organizations.
